Its been a couple days since I got to Snowbelle city, I've been staying at the pokemon center for free because Nurse Joy didn't feel it was right to charge me while I waited to take my Trainers Licence exam and wait for the results, apparently there aren't many ways to make money without a trainers licence or a regular job.
I walked around the city with Dusk as we waited for the test results to come in, Nurse Joy was kind enough to lend me a pager to tell me when she gets the results.
Dusk and I stopped by the local Gym to see if we could catch a battle in progress, sadly the gym was empty of a fight, but the pager hanging from my waist finally beeped so we walked back to the pokemon center, as we entered we saw Nurse Joy standing at the front desk with a large man who had white hair and a moustache that reminded me of a walrus' tusks, he wore a pair of black pants, black shoes with red soles, a pale blue tank top, and a large ice blue winter coat with orange decals and insides over his shoulders almost like a cape. It was Wulfric, the ice type gym leader.
Nurse Joy noticed me out of the corner of her eye and waved me over.
"Welcome back Aurelius, I've received the results of your Trainer License application, and you passed with flying colors! Congratulations, here is your Pokedex with your trainer license."
My pokedex was a small square roughly a bit bigger than my hand. Nurse joy showed me that it could extend from its "sleep mode" into a rectangle with a light blue holographic screen with a red cover on the top and bottom, and black borders between the cover and the screen. It looked really cool and had a bunch of features for training pokemon and travel.
(Pov Wulfric)
Wulfric watched as Aurelius received his pokedex and license from Nurse Joy with a watchful eye.
'So this is the lad who aced his license test, i woulda thought he'd be older if i didn't take a look at his file'
Wulfric thought back to last evening, as he looked through recent reports of league officials and other documents, one caught his eye. A report about a license test being completed in his town.
'strange, I thought all the youngins were either too young or already had their test.' so with a curious click he opened the report on one "Aurelius" and found a test with remarkable results, an almost perfect score, at 12 years old? The kid must have been some sort of prodigy or something. Wulfric thought about trying to meet the kid, just to sate his curiosity about him.
He didn't think Aurelius looked like much, just an average lookin youngster, looking just as excited as every other kid that got their license. As Wulfric thought to himself nurse Joy spoke up
"the Pokemon League has also allowed you the choice of a starter pokemon because of your test score, even though you already have a pokemon, the league hands out certain rare pokemon to trainers with potential. Here, I'll hand you a list of the available pokemon." Nurse Joy then handed a stunned Aurelius a clip board, guess he didn't expect a starter eh? Lets see what he picks then.
(Pov Returned)
Really? A second pokemon for free... This is amazing! I speed-read the list with a hungry look, so many choices for a second partner!
Starers like Chespin, Froakie, Fennekin, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander! they even had fossil pokemon like amaura and tyrunt! Riolu, and skrelp, they also had pokemon from outside the kalos region, like a salandit (guaranteed female so it could evolve), tyrogue, and plently of other rare pokemon, no dragon types or psudo-legends though, i guess they aren't safe for beginners to use.
"I guess I'll pick salandit, I like poison types, and it resists some of Dusk's weaknesses."
"Great! We should have salandit ready for you by tomorrow! I'll send a message to your pokedex, can I take back the pager you borrowed?"
"oh yeah sure! And thanks Nurse Joy!"
"Ah, a fire type if i recall correctly? Tryin to prep for my gym already lad?" Wulfric piped up from beside me, his mouth in a teasing grin.
"Uh no sir, I thought the gyms were meant to be done in a certain order, an the first one was bug type over in Santalune City." I didn't know if gym leaders had teams for multiple badge levels or not, in the anime Lt, Surge only used his strong raichu, and in the games the gyms don't change based on what number of badges you have, so i figured better safe than sorry and just copy the games.
"nonsense lad! I wont fight you with anything higher than my first badge level team, especially when you haven't even been a trainer for a week!" That answered my question at least.
"I'd rather travel around a bit before going after any gyms, grow my team a bit you know?" I said with an awkward smile, I never was good at talking with people, glad I wont have to do that very much in the wild.
"That's a good idea lad, best to get to know your team before trying anything like a serious battle y'know?" his grin had transitioned to a more gentle smile, I guess he enjoys giving new trainers advice.
"thanks for the tip sir, guess I should get training with Dusk or something huh? Get ready to travel and stuff. Goodbye sir! Goodbye Nurse Joy!" and with that I turned to leave the Pokemon center, as Wulfric and Nurse Joy said their goodbyes.
As we left I looked around for a good open space to do some sort of training, no idea what type of training Id be doing, but i figure an open area was the best for it.
I pulled out my pokedex and turned it on, pointing it at Dusk and activating the scan function to see what it said.
Absol: Dark type, the Disaster Pokemon. When disasters are detected with its horn, Absol comes down from the mountains to warn people.
Gender: Female
Ability: Super Luck
Moves known: Fury Cutter, Slash, Night Slash, Detect, Bite, Quick Attack, Taunt, Double Team,
"Wait? You know fury cutter? I thought absols cant learn that move?" Dusk knows a move that she shouldn't be able to learn? Does that mean other pokemon know moves from beyond their game move-pool? That's both interesting and concerning, especially with the evil teams of pokemon having bigger surprise move pools.
"I learned it from watching the insects do it, its a move that cuts and I have a blade horn, it makes sense no?" Dusk said with an arc of her eyebrow, I guess it does make sense in hindsight...
"Yeah that makes sense, so how does Taunt actually work? I've never seen it in action, same with Double Team." I'm pretty curious on how certain moves work, and how the non visible ones function, like detect and such.
"I could use it on you if you want? I'd need a suitable target for it regardless."
"Sure, that sounds good." I walk roughly 10 feet away from Dusk, as she lowers her front legs, before a pulse of a dark energy washes off her, the grass around her wasn't even moved, but I felt a light push as it impacted me.
Status Effect Detected!
Taunt: the user is unable to use non-damaging skills. Duration: 1 minute.
"Oh that's really cool! Can you do that on the move, or do you need to stop moving?" I may have already seen pokemon using moves in action, but the chance to try and study or train with a move was making me giddy.
"I can do it while running, but its hard to focus it while moving." Dusk looked frustrated at that.
"We can try and work on training with that later! Now lets see Double Team!" I pointed my hand forward with a shout.
Dusk's body seemed to blur as multiple copies of her appeared, seven of her, six clones and the real Dusk, walked around the area and past me. I waved my hand through the nearest clones horn and watched as it buzzed in and out before returning to a solid look once more.
"So how many of these can you make? Are they hard to control?"
"I can make around 10 before they start to waver, and I'm capable of properly controlling 6 doubles, making them do differing actions, dodge, and repair the illusions, anything more and they start failing or cant properly move." Dusk seemed displeased with her skills, if the look on her face meant anything.
"Well that's something we can work on! I don't really know how to train combat skills yet, but trying to figure out Double Team sounds like fun! We can pass the time until salandit gets delivered then we can head out into the rest of Kalos." honestly i was pretty excited to go exploring, the games and anime don't really do the world justice with how nice it looks...
I hope I can see more amazing places on my journey, and meet new pokemon too!
AN: Howdy! Sorry for the extremely late chapter, turns out that burnout is difficult to deal with, who knew? Anyway im glad to finally be back. Turns out writing with no solid idea of what comes next leads to a heavy stalling period, now i know whats coming next! I lost track of what this story was meant to be at first, but now i know, its a Gamer fanfic in the Pokemon world, so Aurelius is gonna become the Strongest Trainer in the world. Both with and without his pokemon by his side, a Gamer weaker than his party isn't a real gamer after all! Thanks for reading! Chapters will take a while now. No more "its gonna be soon"s now, i know my limits and they are not big. This chapter was in development hell for a loooong while.
See you soon!
