When I wake up the next morning, I feel stiff and numb.

Then I remember. The aptitude test is today. I sigh, as I change into my day clothes.

Though I won't miss my "family", I will miss my friend Cara. When we were younger, we played tag. Sometimes her brother, Will, would try to join. He would fall down and start to cry, but we would always cheer him up.

I walk up the stairs with the other faction members and I realize, nobody actually knows what they do to determine your faction. What do they do in the aptitude test?

While the head of Erudite, Jeanine Matthews, makes a speech, I wonder what they do in the aptitude test. Do they make you take a physical test, or a fitness test, or maybe they inject us with something.

"-and remember, "Declared Jeanine Matthews" ̔faction before blood." that is the faction motto, created when we founded the factions.

Now, all the other sixteen year olds line up in front of a closed door, where the aptitude test is being held. I am somewhat in the middle of the line, and therefore, I must wait.

I watch as the other teens come out of the locked door. They look awfully pale, and they are shaking.

Then it is my turn.

I walk cautiously towards the door, wondering what can be behind it.

I walk in and see a metal chair, that seems very sinister, and tubes and liquids.

"Sit" ̓ the test administrator says calmly. I sit in the chair and feel the cold metal seep into my skin.

He fiddles around with the wires as he explains how the test is going to work.

"̔When I inject you with the simulation serum, you will have one minute before you transfer into the simulation. "

He brings out a syringe. Usually I am not afraid of needles, but this one is huge.

He moves my light brown hair out of the way, as he plunges the needle into my neck. I feel lightheaded as the serum enters my bloodstream.

Then I black out.
