Nothing Will Ever Bring Us Back Together

Chapter Twenty Seven- Back To School

ROGERS HOUSEHOLD

Alice went back to school first, a week after the battle. Steve, Peggy and Alice flew home and realizing Alice had been off school for over a month, almost two, forced her to go back to school almost immediately. But not before Steve had talked to the head teacher.

"Mr Rogers, are you aware that your daughter has not reported for class in over a month?" Mr Lyons asked, after they had said their awkward hello. Steve sighed. This was going to be a long and rather strange explanation

"Yes, Sir, that's what I came in to talk about. Have you seen on the news about what happened in New York a few days ago?" Steve replied. He started simple, hoping that it would make it seem more normal. It wouldn't but he hoped.

"Yes, a man tried to take over the world and the Avengers stopped him." He had watched the news, and liked to keep up with the goings on in the country. Or the world as he lived in Britain.

"Sir, I'm Captain America." Steve dropped the bombshell. The teacher's expression was comical. He had the jaw drop, which slowly turned in to a disbelieving smirk.

"You're lying. Captain America would not live in England." Steve took off his shirt and revealed the stars and stripes. He knew that this would happen. He found it strange, did no one realise that superheroes had a normal life? A real name, a family? Everyone wanted to meet THE Captain America, but when they did they couldn't believe it.

"Do you believe me yet or do I have to... do something else?" Steve had no idea what else he would do, except maybe some superhero gymnastic moves, but it was unlikely that he would have to.

"I believe you," Steve put his shirt back on, "But that doesn't explain the whole month and a half!" Steve couldn't believe that he was so shocked. Did everyone think that the Avengers had been together all this time? Did no one think that they needed time to get back together?

"Ok, so, you know the Avengers err... broke up sixteen years ago? We went to Florida last summer and bumped into Thor, you know, the thunder god. Thor's wife called me the day before we went and said something along the lines of 'All of us take Clint and Natasha, are going to Stark's house in LA. Come if you can.' So we went planning to stay a week." Steve began his story, realising how ridiculous it seemed. But it was the truth. Like it or not, this was his story, and it was what he was telling.

"Who are Clint and Natasha? And why didn't you come back after a week?" The public knew the identity of Tony and Bruce but not Clint and Natasha as they were still spies and didn't need or want the public to know their identities. Steve isn't mind but never was asked his real name, or got the chance to say it.

"Two of the nicest people who didn't des- Sorry, Hawkeye and Black Widow. So, Tony-Iron Man- Bruce-The Hulk- and I went to Clint and Natasha's house and persuaded them to come the next day. At Tony's house, once the kids were in bed, the adults watched a film and we all fell asleep watching it. When we woke up the girls, Alice, Peggy, Natasha, Katya, Lilly, Betty, Pepper, Ella and Jane, were gone. Basically we found them they were all ok, except from Natasha. We flew to New York because that was the nearest facility for Natasha. They thought she was going to die and after four days, they took her off life support. Being Natasha she pulled through but we all wanted to stay until she got better and then... The New York attack. Then K-Katya." Steve didn't really want to talk about it, but he would have felt ashamed if he didn't mention her.

"What happened to Katya?" Mr Lyons didn't mean to seem insensitive, but he didn't actually know what had happened and was just curious.

"N-nothing but we got back a few days ago and Alice had to recover. She will be back at school on Monday and I want none of this leaking out to the press the school... anyone. You are the only one who can know." Steve looked him in the eye as he said that, to make sure

"Yes, Captain."

"No special treatment for her."

"No."

"Then I think I am done here."

"Goodbye!"

"Bye." Alice went back to school the next Monday and put about that she had seen very ill for a while. Her friends accepted her back but knew something had changed inside her. Something had changed. Alice had been tortured, she had thought her mum was going to die twice, her father once. She thought she was going to die. Alice remembered everyone of the Revengers and Avengers especially her three friends, Joe, Blaze and Katya. She never would ever forget Katya.

BANNER HOUSEHOLD

Lilly and Lewis went back two days after Alice. While they were in New York, Betty had called the school to say that they were going to be picked up, straight from LA. When the Banners got back from New York, they had a big battle about the going back to school thing. Bruce decided that the twins would go back to their school, just until Christmas break. Then they would move to Los Angeles and go to school where Ella and Ethan went. Bruce only wanted to move because if there was a mission, he wanted to be near to the others. Betty thought it was a great idea. Lilly was cool with it, happy to be able to spend some more time with Ella. Lewis was fine, too. It was the going back to school bit he didn't like.

"But mum," He whined, "You can bet Ella, Joe, Blaze and Ethan haven't gone back yet."

"Blaze is in Asgard, the world knows who Tony Stark is, their schools will know too. He knows how to get out of anything. Ethan, you can't expect him to go back yet. His little sister practically DIED a few days ago. Alice, though, has been back one day." Betty replied.

"Seriously? She said her dad would force her to go back the second she was home. I don't mind, mum." Lilly said getting off the sofa and walking up the stairs. Lewis followed her.

"Lewis you better be ready at eight o'clock." Betty said and Lewis nodded, accepting defeat. It would have been nice to relax for a bit, but mothers always have the final word.

STARK HOUSEHOLD

Ella and Joe went back two and a half weeks after it. Before they did, Ella spent everyday with Ethan but they would never stay at Ethan's house, They went to the park, the cinema, the shops, cafes, Ella's house... They went everywhere. They knew that it would take time, quite along time, for both of them, the others and Clint and Natasha to heal so they left them alone.

"Ells? Will it always be like this?" Ethan asked while they were sitting in the park the day before Ella was being forced to go back.

"What do you mean?" She replied, "No we will not be able to do this everyday because my mum is making me go back to school tomorrow. Everyone in our class knows my dad is Iron Man, if they have any brain cells and I'm implying that they do, they will know I'm Iron Girl. If anyone watches the news, they will as he seen your face. We will be welcomed back like heroes."

"Ells, I can never go back. I can't get on the bus without her there." He couldn't do anything without her there. Half the time he couldn't even sleep knowing that she wasn't safe.

"Ethan, don't think about he- Is that Fern?" Ethan turned around and groaned inwardly. The small figure of Fern Coulson advanced towards them. In his opinion Fern was small, annoying and did not know when to leave. Ella's opinion of her was pretty similar.

"Hi, can I join you?" She asked. Ella looked at Ethan. They couldn't say no but neither of them wanted to say yes.

"Hello, Fern, shouldn't you be at school?" Ethan asked, avoiding her question. He pretended to be bright and cheery, but he felt like crying. Seeing Fern, it reminded him of her, the fact that she was S.H.I.E.L.D, the similar age and structure of the little girl.

"Yep but I haven't been for over six months... I doubt they'll miss me. My dad decided to make me go today but I bunked and spied you two here." So she had until 3:25 to kill. Ethan groaned for a second time inwardly. It was going to be a long time, unless Ella could get them out of there.

"Fern, you have to go to school," Ella said. Even if she went in for the afternoon, it would be good. She had to learn stuff and pass her exams to be an agent, right? Maybe she could just get in on her father an mother alone.

"Then why aren't you?" Fern replied. Ethan groaned again, this time out loud, though a little quietly. He didn't have an answer and was not sure that Ella did either.

"I'm going back tomorrow. Ethan will go back when Clint and Natasha tell him to. What school do you go to, anyway?"Ella knew that she didn't go to Joe's school, they had acted like they had never met when Fern appeared to them. There were quite a few schools around though and you could say that Ella was genuinely curious. You could also say that she wanted to get Fern talking so that she could sneak away but you might not need to know that.

"It was supposed to be my first day at some new school round here. We live round here when my parents aren't on missions. I got kicked out of my last school and my parents went on a mission before I went to another school." Fern had gotten kicked out when she started to fight another girl who had been bullying her about having not many friends. The girl had urged her to fight, not knowing how good at self-defense Fern actually was.

"Do you mean the school literally three streets away? Because my brother goes there. You turn up tomorrow and he will be there." Ella was now feeling very soory for her brother. He also found Fern annoying, but not as annoying as Ella and Ethan did.

"'Kay. I'll be there, if I'm not dead"

"We have to go now don't we, Ethan?"

"Oh, yeah. See you."

"See ya tomorrow, Fern."

"Bye, Ella, Ethan."

Having ended their session at the park early, they went back to Ella's house. "Hey, Joe." Ethan said. Ella had got on much better since Katya had... When Ethan came round sometimes the three of them sat in Ella's bedroom and talked. Today was one of those days.

"So, you two, how are you feeling about going back?" Ethan said, trying to start up a conversation. He already knew how both f them felt about it and they had done enough cussing for him to know that they were not best pleased.

"Who ever wants to go back to school?" Joe asked.

"No one, Joe. But you know that girl, Fern? She is joining your school tomorrow." Ella told him. Ethan smiled, waiting for his reaction.

"What? No. How old is she? She's in my class isn't she? If she sits in Katya's seat for any of my classes, I-I don't know what I'll do."

"Relax, Joe. Mum hasn't told anyone yet, they still think she is coming back."

"I just don't believe she's never coming back."

"I think she will. Loki might wait eighteen years again but I can feel it. He will try to, take over the earth again that is, and he will do it with Katya." Ella said. The conversation stopped there but they carried on chatting about a range of different things.

Pepper called both of their schools to say that her kids would be returning the next day. They asked about Ethan and Katya but Pepper said Natasha would send them back when she thought they were ready, not having the heart to tell them. Ella gave Joe to Sam and Zoe, who they luckily caught stepping off another bus, saying, "Make sure he gets in and stays in." Sam and Zoe were confused, but they took Ella's words very seriously.

Joe and Ella were welcomed back to school like heroes. People clapped as they walked in to classes, asked for their autographs in the hallways and tried to sit on their tables in the lunch hall. All Joe wanted to do was cry whenever he heard someone ask 'Where is Katya?' He didn't go to lunch, he had brought his own as had Sam and Zoe, so the threesome sat behind the shed in the school playground. Joe had to break the news to them, now they were alone.

"Guys," Joe whispered, trying not to let his tears spill over, "I'm sorry but Katya, she's as good as dead."

"WHAT!?" Zoe shouted, "Sorry. We saw it on the news. Katya went in to the tower after you lot had all... defeated them, next to you. I refuse to believe it."

"The guy who staged the attack was in that tower, wasn't he? What did he do to her?" Sam asked, balling up his fists ready to punch Loki, like he would mysteriously materialize to be punched.

"Loki. He took her."

"WHAT?!" Both of them shouted. Sam had suspected as much but was still surprised.

"No... That can't be true." Zoe whispered, sounding very similar to Phil Coulson.

"Joe... I'm really sorry. But me and Zoe will still be here. I promise that I-we will help you through this." Sam said and Zoe agreed.

"Thanks guys. I think I'm alright though. Just don't mention it or her and I'll probably be fine."

"Lets leave it there then." Sam said. They carried on like Katya was just taking a sick day, filling Joe in with all the gossip he had missed. Then the topic of the new girl came up.

"So, Joe, do you know the new girl? Fern? She looked like she knew you." Zoe asked. Joe had ignored Fern all day and gave her a long hard stare when she tried to take Katya's place in geography. She hovered behind him at break and was sitting fifty yards away from them, alone, eating.

"Should we ask her if she wants to come over?" Sam asked, seeing she was lonely. He thought she looked pretty and he was also a good boy so didn't want to see a pretty girl lonely.

"Yeah, Fern Hill-Coulson. Fern. Don't bring up Katya with her either. Their parents used to be best friends. They would have been practically cousins. She can be annoying but I guess she's alright. If you're sure... FERN? D'YA WANNA JOIN US?" Joe finished by shouting. Fern got up and sat down again in between Zoe and Joe.

"Hey Joe. Did Ella tell you I was coming?"

"Yeah, didn't you skip school yesterday and get kicked out of your last one six months ago?"

"It wasn't like that. I would have come back earlier if it wasn't for New York. And I went to Steph's school for a while... She doesn't go to school. Who are you?" She asked Zoe and Sam.

"Oh, hi, I'm Zoe."

"Sam. Who are you?"

"Fern but I prefer Via."

"Why didn't you say last week and what does it have to do with Fern?" Joe asked.

"Mum and dad throw fits if they hear me say it and nothing. My name's Fern Olivia. Via." After awkward introductions, they carried on talking, including Fern as much as possible. The athletics had finished now but next year, none of them were sure what would happen, not even sure if they could do it at all. Ella went in to school and ignored sat in silence and hissed whenever anyone tried to take Ethan's seat. Her friends tried to talk to her but she blocked everyone out. After school she called Ethan and asked him if he could please come in the next day.

"I'm really sorry, Ells," He said, voice cracking, "I wish I could be there for you like you have been for me but I'm s-so s-sorry Ells, I c-can't."

"I'm sorry for asking. I know you can't. Do you mind if I don't come round today? I'm feeling drained."

"Sure, it's fine. Get some sleep, sweetie. I'm pretty tired too. Ells, I'll see you around, yeah? I'll try to come back soon."

"Bye, Ethan. I promise I'll come and see you soon. I love you."

"I love you too, Ells. Bye."

ASGARD/ ODINSON HOUSEHOLD

When Blaze, Thor and Jane left, they went to Asgard for a whole month. Blaze kept asking what it was like, so Jane told him, "It's like a... Medieval Castle, except prettier and grander. You are royalty so people will bow to you. There are massive feasts they ride horses and wear their armor all the time. Oh God I will have to wear a dress. They all talk like your dad and you have to talk like that as well. But I think you will like Lady Sif and Warriors three."

"Mum, did you say I'm royalty? You not only kept from me that I was an alien, but now I'm a royal alien?" Blaze's eyes widened in excitement and Jane breathed a sigh of relief. He wasn't giving her grief that she had kept it from him all these years, he was just excited to finally know.

"Yeah, your going to be king when your dad gives the throne to you, after he's had it." If it was possible for Blaze to become more excited, he did.

"Do I have to wear that armor all the time, because it's ruddy uncomfortable." He said as he saw his father wearing his.

"Yes you do Blaze and you have to be nice and polite."

"I will." Thor took them to Asgard

As they passed Hemindall he said, "Young Blaze! I knew t'was a matter of time before you graced our lands. Good to see thee Lady Jane, you too Thor." They crossed the rest of the bridge and Blaze whispered,

"I have to talk like that?!"

"I do too," Jane replied, "But it's easy to pick up." They finished crossing the rainbow bridge and nothing could have prepared Blaze for what he saw. He turned his head as fast as as it would go, but still taking it all in. Then he realized where they were headed. The Palace. As soon as the three of them stepped inside, Crowds of people bowed to them as Blaze tried to keep up with his father. When he thought that they were completely lost, the place was so big, Thor stopped and knocked on the door in front of them.

"Come in?" Frigga's voice rang. Thor had not told them he was coming so she was unsure of who it was.

"Mother!" Thor hugged her as soon as they were inside.

"Thor, thee did not tell us that thou were coming! What happened on Midgard with Loki?" Jane Pushed Blaze forward. "Thor! Finally thou has brought thy son to the Asgardian plain! We must alert Odin immediately! Alert the kitchens! We shall have a feast!"

'Oh God,' Blaze thought, 'This is worse than what mum said.'

"You called." A man with white balding hair said appearing in one of the other doorway. "Thor! How did thee deal with Loki? Thor! You brought your son. Alert the kitchens! We-"

"I have done that dear. Thor, why does thee not show Blaze to his quarters or take him to see Lady Sif and the warriors three?"

"We shall go to see Lady Sif and the Warriors three. Does thee know where we could find them?"

"They were headed for the kitchens, I think." Thor said bye and the three of them made their way to the kitchens to find Thor's old friends.

"Mum, who were they and who are we going to see?" Blaze hissed.

"They were your grandparents, the King and Queen. These are your dad's best friends."

They were almost at the kitchens when they bumped into four people.

"Thor!" They all cried running into him. Sif stopped though, just before she hit him. The others knocked Thor over, falling over themselves.

"Jane! Blaze! It is so good to see you! I can not believe Thor brought you back!" Blaze instantly decided he liked her. She spoke almost like a normal person, "Blaze, how fare thee?" Or not. He still liked her though.

"I'm fine thanks."

"I do not understand Midgardian gabble."

"Blaze means that he is well, thank thee for asking. He is not too familiar with Asgardian speech, yet. Maybe we could teach him." Blaze mentally damned his mother for getting him lessons.

"Yes, that would be most hilarious." The others got up and had conversations with Blaze, occasionally getting Jane or Thor to translate. Later they had a feast, Blaze hating the attention, but loved getting to know his grandparents. He used the next month to explore the castle, go to lessons and get to know Sif with his mum, have fun with the warriors and his dad, talk to his grandparents and be uncomfortable in his armor. Once a month was up though, they had to go home. He almost forgot about Katya, but not quite. Once home Blaze was bored. There was no castle to explore, no fun sort of uncles and auntie to have fun with. Blaze's head teacher hadn't cared about Blaze being missing as long as she got Thor's autograph. Blaze took his usual seat next to his best friend, James, at the back of the classroom.

"Hi Blaze, Where have you been?"

"Hello, friend James." Blaze cursed in his head. He had forgotten to turn his Asgardian speech off.

"What?"

"Sorry! I meant hi. I've been in New York. How ya doin'?"

"So it was you. You were on the news a month ago."

"I feel sick." Blaze went home and from then on was taught by a tutor. No one needed to know that he wasn't human. Being Asgardian wasn't all perks.

BARTON HOUSEHOLD

Ethan went back last. It was expected as it was his sister. Ethan went back one day after Blaze, not having anywhere near as much fun as as had during those days. Once Ella had gone back, Ethan moped. They met up almost every day after school because Ella knew he would be moping and she also knew that no one would stop him from doing so unless she was around. Clint and Natasha seemed to slowly get better and after three and a half weeks, they had finally forced him in to doing stuff. Ethan had cleaned his room, done the dishes and a whole load more, just to get off their case. That night though, it was going back to school. "Mum, I can't. I absolutely cannot. I can't get on the bus without her."

"I wasn't going to make you go on the bus. Tomorrow I am going to drive you to school, talk to your principal about stuff and leave you there. Ella will make sure you get home but call me or dad if you need a lift and we will give Ella and Joe one too. If you think you won't be able to make it, go to medical. Please try, Ethan. I've heard Ella talk to you. She needs you to come back."

"Mum, I'll try. You know Fern started at Joe's school two weeks ago?"

"Yeah. It's because Phil was a great friend of ours, when dad thought he died, he almost broke, I did too. Maria and I were the two top women in S.H.I.E.L.D. in my day. They care about us. And somewhere his thick bald head, beneath the eye patch, Fury does too."

"Mum... I love you, Dad loves you and somewhere far away, K-Kat loves you as well." It was the first time Ethan had said her name since she was taken. It was a big step for him, proving to his mum that the was ready.

"Ethan is going through a very traumatizing time, currently." Natasha told the principal, Ethan listening through the door. He hadn't told Ella, wanting to surprise her.

"I know what happened, I watch the news. But why did he not come back when Miss Stark did?"

"That's the traumatic bit. Are you aware that I also have a daughter who fought in the attack."

"Yes, I look forward to welcoming her to our school."

"Well you will never be able to."

"What do you mean?"

"After the initial attack, we all went to see Loki, to capture him. He got away, and took Katya. Ethan lost his sister that day. So if he does need to come home, I trust you will call me. Also, please don't tell anyone."

"I won't and of course. Mrs Barton, is there anything else you would like to discuss?"

"No, thank you." They left the office and Ethan was sent on his way to the start of lesson two. He was almost late and as he slid in to his seat Ella hissed without looking up.

"What? Not pleased to see me? I made the effort for you, you know."

"ETHAN!" She shout-whispered back and hugged him deciding that. kissing would not be to great for the classroom. The lesson then started and Ethan made it through the rest of the day. He went home and little by little, his life returned to what it was before just without Katya in it.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

All the Avengers got over it too, in their own ways. There was the awkward conversation where Tony called Clint up and discussed their children dating. They all had people to depend on now, but those people would be in danger if the world came under attack again. The Revengers were banned by their parents from taking part in any more missions until they were twenty but to be honest, none of them actually wanted to.

There was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people, so when we needed them, they could fight the battles that we never could. Then they formed the Avengers. Only two years after they originally formed, the Avengers split up again. It was ok, though, because in those two years, the Avengers had taken down most of the evil armies which were to be led against man. The Avengers have now reformed. When they get old, some of them may die, the Revengers with be there to take their place. But if the Revengers are never truly complete, will they be the remarkable people we know them to be? Will they be able to fight the battles mere humans never could and never will be able to? Most of all though, will they be able to be brought together to form a group? Or will they dwindle in sadness and never be able to save the world?
