A/N: Hey! Okie I'm back ish. Trying to work this out. Thank you for putting up with me
It's been three weeks since their anniversary and House noticed for the last week Danielle had been off. He made sure that he was home on time and wasn't acting too much like a jackass. Yet something still seemed to be distracting Danielle. He tried to figure out what it was by himself. Maybe it had to do with her fashion career. Could she have been offered a job in New York, fashion capital of the country? Why wouldn't she have told him? Well maybe something happened at work. He saw on the news that teachers were being let go left and right.
"Earth to House." Wilson said pulling him out of his thoughts. House looked up and glared.
"What? What do you want?" House said, clearly annoyed.
"I got your patient's biopsy results." Wilson said. "But clearly that's the last thing on your mind."
"And what makes you say that? Couldn't I have just been thinking about my patient?"
"House." Wilson said with raised eyebrows. "I know you." House sighed loudly.
"I know you do... Better than anyone else actually." He gave a short laugh. "The creepy thing is, you know be better than i know myself most of the time."
"I know." Wilson said with a smirk. "So are you ok?"
"I was just thinking about Danielle, she's been acting different lately."
"What do you mean?"
"I dont know... she seems distracted, a lot more quiet than usual... I mean usually I cant get her to shut up but now its hard to even keep a conversation going, at first I thought it was something at school, or her fashion work that was on her mind but as the days go on I'm less sure, and more worried about her." House finished with a sigh.
"Have you tried talking to her about it?" Wilson asked
"Its going to sound really dumb, but I'm actually afraid to." House admitted.
"Why?"
"I guess I'm just afraid to find out whats wrong, if she hasn't told me anything, there's probably nothing I can do to help her."
"Or..." Wilson said. "Maybe she's afraid to talk to you."
"Why would she be?"
"Maybe she doesn't know how you'll react." Wilson said looking at him. House raised an eyebrow.
"Why would she be worried as to my reaction?" He asked his best friend.
"Who knows." Wilson said with a shrug. "She might think you'd react.. poorly."
"I need to talk to her.. I'll do it tonight." house said after a moment of silence.
"Be careful." Wilson warned. "You have a tendency to be blunt."
"And whats the problem with that? I call it being honest."
"You can be honest and a little more tactful."
"Fine. I'll try to be more 'sensitive'." House said mockingly.
"That would be the best approach."
House came home that night wanting to talk to Danielle. He came in and could tell right away she was home. The light in the kitchen was on. He walked in there to fine Danielle sitting at the island, correcting papers. He sat across from her.
"Hey." She said, glancing up with a half hearted smile.
"Hi." He said leaning over and giving her a kiss. He noticed her response wasn't as enthusiastic as normal.
"What do you want for dinner?" She asked, looking back down at the papers. House sat silent. After a few minutes, Danielle looked up at House, who was watching her. She put her pen down. "Yes?"
"What's wrong Dani?" He asked.
"Nothing." She said with a smirk. She got up to the cupboards. "What do you want for dinner?" House got up and followed her.
"I want you to tell me whats going on." He said.
"I can make pasta." She said ignoring him. "Or maybe a steak or something. We can order out."
"Danielle." He said wrapping his arms around her and kissed her neck. She shrugged and pushed away. "Alright, enough." House said, a bit harsher than he wanted. He grabbed her by the shoulders and turned her. "Tell me what's going on."
"I said nothing!" She said, clearly annoyed, pushing him away and went back to her paperwork.
"I'm not buying that!" House raised his voice. "Danielle." He went over to sit across from her again. "Just tell me." Danielle sighed and looked at him.
"I'm late." She said and her words hit him like a ton of bricks.
Hope you all liked this. Cake doughnuts for reviews. Opinions are loved! And Thankies, yet again to my Wingman for helping me. She literally is my house voice :)
