Chapter 5: Eek, a Zombie!

The remaining S.T.A.R.S. team decided to come up with a new plan, now that the investigation turned south.

"What is this place?" Barry asked, looking around the mansion.

"Not quite your ordinary house, that's for sure," Wesker said calmly. Just then they heard a noise coming from the other room, as it surprised them.

"What do you think that was?" Michael asked.

"I have no clue, but we have to investigate. Jill, you and Michael check that room over there, Chris you look up the second floor. Barry, you check the other rooms. I'll secure this area," Wesker said, before telling them to stay sharp.

"Well then, let's Scooby-Doo this crap," Michael said, as Jill nodded before heading to investigate where the sound came from. The two busted down the door and took out their guns in case things turned south, but luckily there was no one there as they lowered their guns.

"Hmmm, it's just a dining room," Michael said, as Jill shook her head.

"Keep searching, there could be a clue around here," she said. Michael decided to check for more clues, when he came across a grizzly sight.

"Uh Jill, I think you better come take a look at this," Michael said, as he touched the red liquid that was obviously blood.

"Holy shit, whose blood do you think it came from?" Jill asked, looking unsure.

"I'm not so sure, but stay frosty," Michael said, as he loaded his handgun. The two slowly entered the next room and trekked the hallway as they heard chewing noises when they came across something horrifying. From what it looked like, a man was chewing on someone and it wasn't just someone, it was their teammate Kenneth.

"Freeze! Put your hands up!" Jill said, pointing her gun. The cannibalistic man stopped eating Kenneth as it moved its head up and slowly turned around. What was shocking was that the man's face appeared torn up, leaving pieces of meat and bone visible.

"Holy shit, zombie!" Michael exclaimed, as he fired his gun at the zombie. He fired a couple bullets at the zombie's chest, yet it seemed that the zombie was unfazed. The zombie just growled, as it extended its arms at them.

"Run!" Jill said, as she and Michael ran out of the room, as the zombie chased them. The two ran back to the dining room, as they saw Barry was there.

"Barry! There is a freaking zombie chasing after us!" Michael said, as Barry saw the zombie coming to them.

"I got this, stand back!" Barry said, as he fired his Magnum at the zombie. He manages to shoot the zombie in the head, killing it immediately.

"Are you guys ok?" Barry asked, as the two shook their heads.

"We're fine except for the fact that we're dealing with fucking zombies here, what is this, a George A. Romero film?!" Michael hissed.

"This is getting out of hand, we need to report this to Wesker," Jill said.

"Guys wait for me, I saw that Kenneth was holding something important. I'm going to check it out," Michael said.

"Be careful out there ok?" Jill said worryingly, as Michael nodded. Michael went back to the body of Kenneth, who looked lifeless.

"May you rest in peace, old friend," Michael said, closing his dead teammate's eyes before taking whatever Kenneth held onto.

Michael returns to them, holding onto a film tape.

"Alright, let's report back to Wesker," Michael said, as Jill and Barry nodded. The three head back to the main area, only to see that Wesker wasn't there and that it was just Chris.

"Chris, where's Wesker?" Jill asked, as Chris shook his head.

"I don't know, I mean I checked the other rooms, but when I returned here, he was gone," Chris said.

"Damn it, what's going on here?" Jill asked, sounding frustrated.

"I'm not so sure, but whatever it is we need to be careful, especially with the zombies here," Michael said.

"Zombies?" Chris asked, raising an eyebrow. The three explained everything to Chris, which surprised him.

"No wonder those dogs looked strange, they were zombie dogs this whole time," Chris said.

"I think it's best if we split up and search for Wesker separately. I'll check out the dining room again, Chris, you look around the hallway," Barry said.

"We'll try the door on the other side," Jill said.

"This mansion is gigantic to the point we could easily get lost. Let's start from the first floor," Michael said, as everyone nodded.

"Oh Jill, I almost forgot. Here, a lockpick, I think you'd make better use of it," Barry said, handing Jill the lockpick. Jill thanks Barry, before stowing the lockpick away.

"Listen guys, if something happens, let's meet up in this hall," Chris said, as everyone nodded. The two entered the other room as they approached another door.

"Damn it, it's locked," Michael said, trying to open the door.

"I don't think a lockpick is going to work on this door," Jill said, until she noticed something interesting.

"An emblem? What do you think it's used for?" Jill asked, as Michael shrugged.

"Let's head back," Michael said, as Jill nodded. The two left the room, as they headed back to that one room where Kenneth was. As they entered the room, the two found some items of interest.

"Oh nice, some herbs and a couple of daggers," Michael said, as he handed Jill a dagger. The two soon entered another room and came across a couple of the zombies. They shot at the zombies aiming at any vital points, as they attempt to gain a headshot. One of the zombies grabbed Jill, but luckily she used a dagger to push them back. "Bingo!" Michael said, shooting at the zombie's head, killing it immediately, while also grabbing some arrow that could be of use. Running to another area, they saw a door, but luckily Jill's lockpicking skills came to use.

"I got it open, come on let's get out of here," she said, as Michael nodded and followed her. The two soon entered the second floor, as it was on top of the dining room. They saw a zombie roaming the area, but the two immediately killed it.

"I swear, where do these zombies keep coming from?!" Michael ranted in frustration, as Jill shook her head.

"I don't know, but let's keep exploring. I'm sure there's bound to be more clues as to what is going on," Jill said, as Michael nodded before noticing something shiny.

"Huh, that's weird?" Michael said, as Jill raised an eyebrow.

"What's weird?" she asked, as Michael began to explain what he saw.

"See that sculpture over there? I think I saw a diamond and I don't know why it's there, but my gut is telling me that it may be of use," Michael said, pointing at the sculpture.

"Alright then, let's push it down," Jill said, as the two went to the sculpture. They pushed it over the rail, as it seemed the diamond was stuck on the sculpture. Soon the sculpture fell down, shattering to pieces leaving the diamond free. Running back to the dining room, they grabbed the diamond before heading back to the main hall.

"You know, I wonder where that door leads to?" Michael said, pointing at the door on the other side.

"Let's check it out, shall we?" Jill said, as the two opened the door on the other side of the main hall. They stumbled across what appears to be a tomb, with an engraving of an angel pointing a bow and arrow, but no arrowhead, unless…?

"Jill, do you still have that arrow?" Michael asked, as Jill nodded before taking it out.

"Alright, take out the arrowhead and place it on the engraving," Michael said, as Jill did so. The tomb soon opened, revealing a secret entrance. Both Jill and Michael looked at each other, before entering the secret entrance to see what was inside. The two came across a dimly lit chamber, with a coffin chained to the top, along with four graves showing faces. But what was interesting was that there was a pedestal, that lies a book.

"What do you think that book is?" Jill asked, as she took the book and read the title.

"A book of curses?" Michael said, raising an eyebrow, as Jill flipped the book over.

"There's a key embedded on the back cover," Jill pointed out.

"Let's take it, who knows what the book could reveal," Michael said. Jill took the key and opened the locked book before reading it.

"What does it say?" Michael asked.

"It said that there are four masks, one of them that speaks no evil, one that smells no evil, one that sees no evil, and lastly one that can't do either of the three. When all four are placed on the faces, evil awakens," Jill explained.

"Jesus, that's ominous," Michael retorted.

"Let's head back, cause I have a feeling this key might be of use," Jill said, as Michael nodded. The two headed back to the mansion, to find the four masks, while continuing to investigate the mansion.
