Little Star
There was a new girl next door. I saw her today, carrying boxes inside the Chief's house. I couldn't keep my eyes off her. She was . . . unique. He long, multi-colored hippie skirt fluttered as she skipped back and forth from the truck to the house. She couldn't have been more than twelve years old, but she looked tall for her age, almost as tall as I.
It was night now and I was looking through the telescope my dad gave me for my birthday, when I heard the neighbor's front door open and close. I spied through the looking glass and saw the new girl lie down in the middle of the road, wearing a dark dress with colored flowers.
I immediately made a dash down the stairs and out of the house.
"Are you okay?" I asked the girl.
She smiled up at me. "I'm fine, thank you."
I scratched my head. She just lay there, looking up at the sky with a smile on her face.
She was very pretty.
"Why are you in the middle of the road?"
"Because there are no trees here and I can see the stars clearly."
"You wanna see the stars?"
"Yep."
I extended my hand. "Let me show them to you."
She let me help her up and she was, indeed, almost as tall as I was.
"I'm Edward, by the way."
She smiled and kissed my cheek. "Nice to meet you, Edward. I'm Bella."
I grinned, rubbing my cheek. "Let's go see the stars."
She took my hand and spent the entire night looking up at the night sky with my telescope.
Our parents were pissed the next morning, but they soon got used to our midnight stargazing escapades. It was on that same balcony that I asked you out, under that same sky we kissed for the first time, and it was on that same street we were married ten years later, you in a colored skirt and me with stars in my eyes.
Thank you for reading. xo ~Mina
