Record Deal
"So, what are we doing here?"
"We are buying a gift for my dad."
I watched her flip several vinyl records before moving onto the next row.
"Anything in particular?"
She pursed her lips in thought. "He likes blues and some rock n' roll bands from the fifties and sixties."
I nodded, googling possible bands from that time on my phone. I had no idea what kind of music people listened back then, but maybe this way we could leave the store faster. The guy behind the register was checking Bella out in a way no dude his age should to a girl of barely fourteen years.
"How about some Elvis?" I asked her, spotting an Elvis album to my right.
"He has them all."
I sighed, looking back to the Google hits.
"The Platters?"
She shook her head.
"The Coasters? The Champs? The Everly Brothers?"
"Are you just naming bands from the fifties?"
I shrugged. "You weren't specific and I'm trying to help."
She smiled and came to my side. "Thank you for helping, Edward," she said before kissing my cheek. "That's very sweet of you."
"I like being sweet with you."
We shared a smile, until she blushed and looked down.
I felt something on my chest, as if my lungs were expanding. I felt tall and awesome, as if I was on the top of the world.
Laughing at my corny thought, I picked an album that look pretty cool. The cover was like a collage with pictures of some dude in black and white, and other pictures of flowers and stuff in orange, yellow and red.
"How about this one?"
"Bingo! He likes The Animals."
"The who?"
"No, The Animals."
I just stared at her.
She giggled and rolled her eyes. "Never mind."
She grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the back of the store. I took the record from her and paid for it. Bella didn't protest about me paying, so I knew she had been aware of the creepy dude.
Once outside, we walked down Main Street towards the bus stop, her small hand in mine.
Looking back, that was the day I fell in love with Bella Swan... and a band weirdly named The Animals.
What could I say? Bella taught me a lot of things throughout the years, music always being her passion; a passion I was more than happy to support and encourage when we grew up.
Thank you for reading. xo ~Mina
