Last Chance

Bella pulled her hair up, sweat running down her neck, and fanned her neck with her free hand. She looked down on his best friend, but he was too focused to pay her any attention.

She tapped his shoulder. "Edward…"

"Shhh, be quiet," he chastised her, focusing on the task at hand.

"But I'm too hot," she whined.

Edward rolled his eyes, knowing it wasn't that hot, not with the AC on and set on high thanks to his mom. According to his dad, she was going through menopause, which had the rest of the members of the house sporting hoodies even in the middle of one of the hottest summers of the decade.

"You'll be okay," he said absentmindedly.

Bella sighed, shifting a little.

"Don't move too much!" he whispered-yelled at her.

"But my leg's cramping!" she complained, extending her leg next to him.

"Don't yell!" Edward grabbed her ankle and massaged her leg. "Better?"

"Yeah, thanks…" she said, blushing red. His hands had felt almost too good on her.

Edward simply chuckled, knowing perfectly well what his touch did to her.

"Why do we have to do this under the sheets?" she asked him, shifting the sheet a little to feel a bit of the cool air from the AC.

"I told you, I don't want my parents to see us."

"But, why? It's not like we're doing something wrong."

"But it's past my bedtime! Now, be quiet and let me finish."

"Edward, maybe we should just sleep…"

"No! It's our last day of summer!"

"I know, but I'm getting tired…"

"C'mon, Bella, you know you wanna play too."

Bella bit her bottom lip; she really wanted to play, and the house was pretty quiet. She had snuck into his room when she was sure his sister, Alice, was fast sleep and his parents were locked in their bedroom.

"Yeah, you're right, but do it quickly!"

"Awesome. I just need to start again; you made me lose count."

Bella sighed and watched as Edward finished up counting the money.

"Okay, it's all set. You go first."

And so, the longest game of Monopoly started.
