In Wayward Son, some chapter happen to have higher view counts than others. These Chapters happen to be the ones the revolve around the Tannis/Claptrap relationship, which is one of the more unique and surprising thing about the story.
Not to sound cocky, but this chapter might become like that.
Enjoy.
"Gee wiz. You must have a pounding headache!"
This was one of the first things the Master heard as he regained consciousness. His eyes adjusted to the darkness of the room against the bright spotlight shining on him. He was tied to a chair in the middle of the room.
He did have a bit of a headache, although that would probably have to do with the fact that he was hit in the head.
The drums weren't helping. They never did.
As he regained his vision, the Master realized where he was. It was the same room that was shown in the video. It still looked the same, although the Master now realized that it had probably moved afterward to distance it from the entrance of the TARDIS. The Master could understand the move. It showed that the ship was being organized like a fortress, ready for defense.
It was a move he could respect. In fact, he would probably have done it if- no, WHEN, he got his hands on the ship.
"This...this is the control room." The Master said, still feeling disoriented.
"Great observation! I salute you, Master of All Things! Haha!" The Joker said. He was sitting on a chair across from the Master, his feet propped up on the TARDIS control panel.
In person, the Joker had a few different features. His hair appeared to be messier than it appeared on TV. He also looked pretty young, although the Master really had no way to tell why he thought that. He was hundreds of years old, so they all seemed pretty young.
There was...something about him. The Master couldn't put his finger on it.
"Ah, so you're the Joker." The Master said. "You say you're funny, but I've only really heard you laugh at your own jokes."
"Well, who else should I be trying to entertain? I'm the Joker! If you don't get my sense of humor, what should it matter to me?" the clown said. "I call you the Master, but I sure as hell won't take orders from you!"
"I understand that." The Master said. "I had a friend, years ago. Called himself the Doctor. Don't get a check up from him. He's not a real doctor."
The Joker laughed, but it was more of a dark chuckle then his howling laughter. "Haha! You DO have a funny bone! I like you."
"Enough to untie me?" The Master asked.
"Oh, never." he replied. "If you are the same kind of person as me, then you should definitely stayed tied up." He chuckled again. "God knows they've tried to keep me down!"
"I suppose. Speaking of the Doctor, I believe you met him." The Master said. "This is his ship, after all."
The Joker stared at him for a moment, before giggling, which sounded pretty disturbing. "You caught me! I stole this ship! Hahahaha!"
"I knew you stole it! What I really want to know is how!" The Master shouted. he was starting to get impatient.
"Ah ah ah." The Joker tisked. "Temper, temper."
"I put up with all of your 'fun house!' I just want some answers! I am a man you do not want to get angry." The Master said, composing himself in the last section.
"Like I said before," The Joker sneered, "we are very alike. People have said that about me plenty of times! Haha!" He paused. "Are you even going to ask about your little girlfriend?"
"Did you kill her yet?"
Joker shrugged. "Left her with my assistant. She might have killed her, so I hope she wasn't important to you."
The Master paused for a second. "...Yeah, I'm good."
The Joker got out of his chair and began pacing around the room. "So why are we talking about little old me, when we could be talking about you?"
The Master perked up. "So you have heard of me." he said smugly.
"Well, actually, I was thinking we could talk about the Time Wars."
The Master's face suddenly fell. "How-How do you know about-?" He composed himself. "That's still going on?"
"Depends on how you look at it." The Joker replied. "It's in a time lock. There's a lot of stuff to know about that, but all it means is that it is happening without happening right now. You know how time works, right?" He looked over at the Master with a straight face, before cracking a smile.
"How do you know all of this?" The Master repeated. He ran through every possibility in his head.
"But you wouldn't know that, wouldn't you?" The Joker skipped around. "You ran! You're a coward! A wimp! A lover, not a fighter! Does girly know that? What would she think? She would see you as less of a man! We need to protect your manhood!"
"How do you know how to control the TARDIS?" The Master asked. He was resorting to asking all the questions as they popped in his head.
"You know they all died, don't you? All of the Time Lords, locked in that War. You are one of the last! Lot of pressure, don't you think?
"Did the Doctor leave behind his personal logs or something?"
"And think of all the wonderful things they locked up in there! All of that comedic, chaotic, destructive wonderfulness! Why would they deny the universe that wonder?"
"Is a Time Lord working for you?" He was becoming more and more desperate with each question.
"Somebody should really show everybody this greatness! That's why I'm here! I'm the only one who's willing to bring the circus back to town. Forever!"
"Is it the Doctor?!"
"Oh, Master." The Joker sighed to himself, humor in his tone. "This is not as entertaining as I thought it would be." He lean toward the Master. "You should have realized by now that some of the best jokes are the one's you don't get right away!"
The Master was, for one of the first times in his life at a loss for ideas. He let his head fall, trying to solve the riddle presented before him.
It was pointless.
He could not for the lives of him figure out how the Joker stole the TARDIS from the Doctor, let alone how he was operating it with knowledge of Time Lord history that even he wasn't aware of.
…
...Until he heard the tapping.
Tap-Tap Tap-Tap, Tap-Tap Tap-Tap, Tap-Tap Tap-Tap,Tap-Tap Tap-Tap
"...No."
"Gee wiz. You must have a pounding headache!"
The Joker was tapping his foot on the ground. A full, crazy smile appeared on his face.
Tap-Tap Tap-Tap, Tap-Tap Tap-Tap, Tap-Tap Tap-Tap,Tap-Tap Tap-Tap
"How could you…?"
The Joker began pacing around, banging to the ground, laughing along with every hit.
"HA-HA HA-HA,HA-HA HA-HA,HA-HA HA-HA,HA-HA HA-HA!"
"I salute you, Master of All Things!"
The Joker danced his way around the room.
"God knows they've tried to keep me down!"
"It couldn't possibly be…" the Master murmured to himself.
"HA-HA HA-HA,HA-HA HA-HA,HA-HA HA-HA,HA-HA HA-HA!"
"Like I said before, we are very alike."
The Joker continued his crazed dance around the TARDIS control room until he finally stopped in front of the Master. Since he was standing and the Master was sitting, the Time Lord's head was at the same height as the clown's chest.
The Joker closed the distance between the two mad men.
An eery silence filled the room.
"Go on then." the Joker said. "You know what to do."
Slowly, the Master leaned in.
He put his ear against the Joker's chest.
…
...and heard what he had realized he would the moment the Joker began his dance.
Thump-thump Thump-thump, Thump-thump Thump-thump, Thump-thump Thump-thump.
The Master slowly moved his head back, shaken for the first time in a while.
"...Doctor?"
The Joker laughed. He howled, he cackled, he laughed a laugh that the Master now realized was horribly familiar.
He continued to laugh until he managed to somewhat compose himself. He leaned down to the Master and smiled a horrible, crazed grin.
"Doctor?" He sneered. "Doctor Who?"
BAMF!
That changes a lot, doesn't it?
Look, there might be a few canon inconsistencies, but really this is all for coolness. I set up an idea and it will be explained more in the next chapter.
Let me know in the reviews how you reacted to this!
