Chapter 8
As soon as Izayoi went back outside, the door to Toga's office opens. "Oh son. I see you have your friends here." Toga smiles to the group. "Hello, Mr. Takahashi." Kagome and Sango said simultaneously as they both bow to him. "I'm Kagome Higurashi." Kagome spoke first. "And my name is Sango Taijiya." Sango said. Toga chuckles. "I'm Toga Takahashi. It's an honor to meet you two." Toga walks to Inuyasha and elbows his son to the side. "I have to admit you have got some lovely ladies here." He teases in the end. That made the girls giggle as well as Miroku snicker at the scene.
Inuyasha growls at him. "Enough with the embarrassment, dad." His cheeks redden up. Toga ruffles the guy's head. Inuyasha growls as he tries to claw at his father. Toga sees it and dodges it easily. "Take it easy, son. I was just messing around." Toga grins at Inuyasha. "So what brings you here anyway?" He asks the group.
"We need to show you something, dad." Inuyasha said. Sango comes to him and shows Toga the footage. Toga watches the video. "Well…" Inuyasha ask him impatiently. "Well, son. For what I see here is affirmative for sure." Toga answers as he gives Sango's phone back. "What do you mean by that?" Sango asks him. Toga gestures them to his office. Kagome and Sango are at awe to see the office for the first time.
They take a seat on the leather couch to observe Toga do his work. He turns on the projector to show them. "For what you show me so far, Sango. I can confirm to the council about this conspiracy." Toga said to them serious. "A conspiracy?" Kagome asks him. "The Council?" Sango asks too. Toga turns his sight to Inuyasha. Inuyasha sighs. "The Council is an organization run by the demons such as my father and other powerful demons in existence." Inuyasha explains to them. "And what exactly does the Council do?" Sango asks him. "The Council's purpose to keep peace between demons and humans alike. The government isn't powerful enough to overthrow it." Toga continues the explanation.
Kagome tries to understand this topic. "As such that's why there are security cameras around the school districts." Toga said to them. "Wait a minute, Sango and I go to Sakura Hills and there aren't any cameras around." Kagome points out. Sango nods in agreement. Toga hmms. "Funny. Give me a second." He types down a few seconds. The monitor shows footage of different areas of Sakura Hills. "From the looks of this, there are cameras at your school." Toga points out to the girls. The girls look at each other and then back at Toga. "What about the footage I showed you?" Sango asks him. Toga agrees. "As such. I have that as well." He said as he shows the footage from one of the cameras in the location where Sango caught Naraku and Kikyo.
"Ok. so that's the proof the council has to know about." Kagome said confidently. Toga sighs. "Yeah. However the Council won't accept it." Ok that wasn't the answers Kagome was hoping. "Do you think that someone is manipulating the Council?" Sango asks him. Toga doesn't respond to Sango. "The thing is that the Council isn't one to be manipulated. They have an ability to negate it. Anything they decide is absolute. Even I'm not able to change their mind."
"But there's something else I want to know." Kagome said to him. "Inuyasha has told me about being his future mate. So far he tells me that it was you and Izayoi who decided it. Is it true?" Sango and Miroku can tell that it's their cue to leave the office. "We'll see you guys later." Miroku said to them before leaving the mansion. Toga looks down a little. "Kind of. What Inuyasha told you is true. And it's not right for us or anyone else to decide who you are supposed to be with. Mainly for humans. But demons just do it by instinct. That's why the council decided to create this Student Exchange Program because it's the only way to make sure the demons from Shikon High know for sure they found their mate."
Kagome never expected this. "Are you sure I'm your future mate?" She asks Inuyasha. Inuyasha on the other doesn't know how to say this. "I never wanted to be in the relationship." He murmurs angrily. Kagome looks down sadly. "So, I guess I'm not meant for this. You said that I'm your future mate, and you're denying it." She walks out of the office and out of the mansion.
Inuyasha looks out the window and then Toga slaps him at the back of the head. "Ow! Dad what the hell?" Inuyasha rubs the part. "How unsensitive can you be? You practically drove Kagome out of the house. You go out there and bring her back here this instant." Toga demands his son as he points to the front door. Inuyasha groans and does what he was told.
Kagome gets to the gate of the mansion and asks the guard to open it. The guard does so and let's Kagome leave the property. She knows how far away her house is from the mansion. 'Might as well get going.' She thinks sadly and begins her walk home. "Kagome!" It doesn't take long for Inuyasha to call out to her. Kagome ignores his call and keeps walking. Inuyasha leaps from tree branch to tree branch until he spots her. "Kagome. Wait." He jumps in front of her. Kagome refuses to look at him. "Kagome, listen. I know it's complicated, but it's the truth." He tries to explain to her.
"What's there to explain? The fact that I'm supposed to be someone's mate without me having a say in it? Or the fact that you deny accepting it." Kagome walks around him. But he takes her upper arm to prevent her from leaving. "Let me go, Inuyasha." She demands him. "Not until we straighten this out." Inuyasha grabs Kagome around her waist and leaps back to the mansion. "Inuyasha, I swear if you don't put me down, you're not going to like what I'll do to you." Kagome said in annoyance as she tries to get out of his iron grip.
"And what is it that you can actually do to me?" Inuyasha asks her ignorantly. Kagome grins wickedly. "This!" Kagome places her hand onto his chest and zaps him the moment he lands at the front door where Toga and Izayoi are waiting for them. "Oh so now you noticed." Izayoi giggles at the scene. Kagome manages to get out of Inuyasha when he landed on her. "Noticed what?" Inuyasha groans as he recovers from the shock. "Kagome here is a priestess." Toga states it. That made Inuyasha drops his mouth.
