"How did you find us?" And more importantly, where have you been?" Nikita asked Owen. Owen focused on his hand as Sonya gently wraped a bandage around the wound. He winced.
"It wasn't easy," he said. "I did some digging, went on the road for about a month, searched all the abandonded places that you could have possibly found, then finally got here. I figured I had nothing else to lose, so I decided to check it out. Using a computer would have been pointless. I knew Birkhoff would have made it impossible to track you guys."
"That answers my first question," Nikita said, crossing her arms and waiting for an explaination on where Owen had been for the last few months. Owen looked at the group as they gathered around him.
"What is this? Question Owen time?" He asked. Everyone was silent, and Owen sighed. "I tried to go after Amanda myself. I realized it was too big of a job to do alone, so I gave up. When I saw that you were long gone, I decided to go after you. Make sure you all were okay."
Alex cocked her head at him. She could see in his eyes that he was lying, but didn't say anything. Nikita seemed to buy it, but didn't speak up either if she didn't.
Sonya finished tying the bandage and stepped away. Owen rubbed his hand and stood up. He looked at Alex.
"Alex... did you do something? You look, different."
Alex raised her eyebrows and partly opened her mouth.
"I um... no, I didn't," she lied. Nikita turned to her, and gave her a look. Owen studied her more.
"No, I'm sure something's different. What is it?" He asked again. Before Alex could open her mouth, Michael cleared his throat, saving Alex from having to tell another lie.
"Owen, you know about Amanda right?" He asked. Owen continued looking at Alex for a few seconds, then turned to Michael.
"Yeah. I'm just upset that I missed it," Owen replied. Birkhoff snorted.
"Trust me, it was not pleasant, and I wasn't even there when it happened," he said. Nikita sighed and leaned against the counter.
"Could we please not talk about Amanda?" She said quietly. Michael turned to her, and moved closer and slid his hand into her. He squeezed and waited until she looked at him and smiled.
"You're right," he said. "Let's talk about Owen."
Owen raised his eyebrows at Michael.
"What else do you guys wanna know? I've told you everything." Before Michael could answer, Alex grabbed her stomach and fell onto her knees. Nikita rushed over to her and knelt down.
"Alex? Alex talk to me, what's wrong?" She blurted. Alex took a breath and let Nikita help her up.
"I'm fine. It doesn't ususally last long." Michael pulled out a chair and told Alex to sit. After a few moments, the pain went away. Owen looked from Alex, to Nikita and back to Alex.
"Something is different. What's going on?" He asked curiously. Nikita kept her hand on Alex's shoulder and squeezed. Alex took a breath, and stared at Owen.
"I'm - I'm pregnant," she finally said.
Nobody said anything for a minute, then Owen started laughing.
"Pregnant? No really, what's wrong?" When no one said anything, Owen's smile faded. "You're serious?"
"I am," Alex said quietly. Owen stayed silent, not sure how to respond. He looked at everyone else, and when he saw their serious expressions, he dropped his head.
"I... don't know what to say. I mean, I never really expected something like this to happen. I know Amanda's dead but, you really want this kid to be part of this life? Look at every other normal person who's been dragged into this," Alex knew that he was referring to Emily, and Daniel and Nathan and how they were gone now. She stood up and looked down as she said, "I um... I'm gonna go upstairs for a bit, my neck's kinda bothering me." She didn't wait for anyone to respond, and quickly walked past Nikita and Michael to get out of the kitchen.
Alex slowly turned her neck from left and right as she stood in front of the mirror. She tried not to wince at the pain, but Owen's grip had been strong since he had been trained by the best.
A knock at the door made Alex turn her head too fast, and the pain went through her entire body. Owen opened the door and saw Alex clutching her neck and leaning forward slightly. He reached for her quickly and helped her to the bed.
"Woah woah woah. Careful." He said as he sat Alex down then took a seat beside her. "You okay?"
"Yeah yeah. I'm fine," Alex said a little too harshly. Owen stared at her, then started to smile. Alex gave him a dirty look. "What?"
"You may be pregnant, but you're still the same old Alex," he replied. Alex didn't answer, but Owen continued. "Hey, I'm sorry about what I said. I didn't mean it like that."
Alex nodded.
"I know what you meant. And let me tell you that I've thought about that exact same thing for the past two months. And it scares the hell out of me."
Owen watched her for a minute, studying her expression.
"I'm probably just being paranoid." Alex added turning away from Owen.
"No, you're not." He said quickly. Alex looked back at him. "You're not paranoid. It just means you care about your child. Even though they're not born yet. After everything we've been through, everything you've been through, how could you not be scared of that?"
Alex's eyes stayed on Owen. She saw the seriousness in his eyes. The look he always got when he meant what he was saying. The silence between them began to get awkward, so Alex stood up. She walked towards the door and opened it. .
"You want me to leave?" Owen asked. Alex nodded. Owen got up from the bed and walked towards the door. Before he stepped out, Alex stopped him.
"Owen," she started. He turned around and waited for her to continue. "I'm glad you're here."
He smiled, then stepped into the hallway and Alex shut the door behind him.
