Scarred for Life
Chapter 29
Excuses at the bottom... Sorry :(
Magus POV
Clary was packed and gone within an hour. Even though I tried my hardest to convince her to wait; she had stepped through the portal without so much of a second glance. Once she had left I closed the portal and went to find Isabelle.
I walked into her fabulously chic room and find her lying on her bed, using her whip to move various objects around her room. While moving a dangerously tall stiletto from under her desk to into the closet, Isabelle finally spoke. "What do you want, Maggie? If it's about borrowing my black tube top, sorry but it got ichor spilled all over it."
I snorted, un-amused. "So the great Isabelle finally decides to bestow upon us the gift of her melodious voice. I think this may be the first time you've spoken since Clary got back. It's a new record."
At the mention of Clary, Isabelle missed her next target and instead knocked a lamp of her dresser, causing it to shatter once it hit the floor. "Damnit!" Isabelle abruptly sat up and sent a glare my way. "I really like that lamp."
Ugh, teenagers. "What's going on, Isabelle? I thought you would be ecstatic that your 'BFF' was back. Instead you haven't even spoken to her since she got back over two weeks ago. This isn't like you."
Isabelle looked livid. Even I felt a little twinge of fear. "You know what else isn't like me? Finally having a female friend and having her turn around and stab me in the back!"
"I hardly believe that she betrayed you just because she left and didn't tell you where she was going. She thought it was in your best interests."
"Exactly! She didn't tell me! I was her closest friend and she couldn't even tell me that she had to leave. She tried to do it behind my back." Isabelle finally seemed to calm down a bit and the anger was replaced with a deep sadness. "She's like my sister… and she couldn't even trust me. What does that say about me? Am I just a shitty friend and never realized it?"
I reached down and took Isabelle's hands, causing her to look into my eyes. "Clary loved you Isabelle. You were the friend she desperately needed in her life. She didn't tell you, because she didn't want anyone coming after her. She thought that if she just went back to Luke's, she could continue her old life, before she met us. She never wanted to hurt you."
Isabelle didn't reply for a few seconds, letting everything I just told her sink in. "I need to go apologize to her! Before she goes and does something reckless again! Where's she at, Magnus?"
I winced, ultimately knowing where this was going. "You see, about that…"
.o.O.o.
Jace POV
"ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?"
I jumped up from the stool I was sitting on in the kitchen and started running towards Izzy's room. I barged in to find Iz, face bright red and looking absolutely pissed, with Magnus next to her, looking sheepish. I instantly regretted walking in here. "What happened, did Magnus spill nail polish on your favorite dress?"
Isabelle shifted her glare from Magnus to me. "Actually, Mr. Sparkly-Homosexual-Magic-Man over here just let our favorite ginger take off to Idris so she could reunite with her family and cut their heads off. You know, all in all a normal day."
I felt the blood drain from my face. I focused on Magnus and gave him my 'scary calm' face. Isabelle says that I look like Maryse right before she punished Alec, Izzy, and I for dying Church green and letting him run around the Institute before the dye had dried, resulting in green paw prints on her precious floors. "You did what?
Magnus rolled his eyes. "Oh puh-lease, you try and stop that girl when she's made up her mind. She wanted to go, so she did. At least I did the responsible thing and told you guy's right after she left."
I ran my fingers through my hair, frustrated that Magnus had a point. Clary is stubborn and does whatever the hell she wants, that's one of the things I love… -ed about her. "What makes her think that she can do this by herself? She's up against the two most evil bastards the Shadowhunter world has ever seen! What if she gets hurt?"
I stopped talking when I noticed Isabelle and Magnus' matching goody smiles. "What the hell is your problem?"
"Oh, nothing." Isabelle sang. "I just think that Jacey-Wacey is scared for his girlfriend."
I glared at Isabelle. "I'm not scared. If Clary wants to go on a suicide mission, then so be it. I don't care if she gets herself killed, not anymore." I hope Isabelle didn't see me clench my jaw, the only telltale sign of when I'm lying.
Magnus rolled his eyes. Again. He was seriously starting to piss me off. "Say what you will. I know that all of us are in agreement when I say that we need to go save Clarissa from her big, bad dad."
I didn't disagree. Even though thinking about Clary still made me remember my father, I wouldn't let her die. Not when I could stop it. I wasn't going to sink to her level.
"When do we leave?"
Magnus turned and looked at me, a curious glint in his eyes. "Soon. But we must make a quick stop before going to Idris."
Isabelle tied her whip around her wrist and looked up at us. "And just where would that be?"
Magnus snapped his fingers and a portal appeared in the corner of Isabelle's room. "You'll see. Now go get Alec. Then step in, shut up, and enjoy the ride."
.o.O.o.
We stepped out of the portal and were greeted by an empty warehouse. The sun had just started to set outside, letting in the occasional streak of orange light through the dusty windows. Scattered throughout the warehouse were various boxes and the occasional beer bottle.
I turned to look at Isabelle, who had her nose scrunched up in disgust. "Why are we here, Magnus?"
Before he could reply, a man jumped out from behind a stack of boxes holding a knife. My Shadowhunter training kicked in and I threw a well-placed punch to the man's wrist, effectively knocking the knife away from him. I had him on the ground with my hand on his throat before he could even process what was happening.
The man looked up at me with blue eyes and out of all the possible reactions, he smiled. "Is it really you?"
His words startled me and I loosened my hold on his throat enough so I could look at him. He was middle-aged. Late forties to early fifties with blonde, balding hair. His arms had little scars on them, so he was probably a Shadowhunter at one point. It wasn't until I looked at his face that I froze.
He hadn't changed a bit since I'd seen him 8 years ago.
The night he was killed.
"Dad?"
Cliffy!
So, school started back up a couple of weeks ago and it's been... hectic. I suspect that this story only has about five more chapters left but I'm not 100% sure. I'm honestly just kind of winging it right now. We'll see where the story takes us! I apologize ahead of time if I can only update monthly.
Questions:
1.) Have any of you guys seen the mortal instruments movie? I honestly think that it's going to be terrible, but I haven't seen it yet so I can't really say.
2.) Are there any questions about the story that need answering? I don't know if there's anything that isn't clear that needs answering.
Don't be afraid to give me critique! It makes me a better writer in the long run.
Review!
See you soon,
