Chapter 12

JPOV

The three vampires stood across the meadow, watching us. They wore all black with nothing else to identify who they were and where they were from. "Can I help you?" I said through gritted teeth. The major was rattling his cage trying to come out and protect our mate. Bella's protection comes first, but I couldn't help but fear she'd reject me after seeing the major out. She hasn't really accepted me yet either.

"We were curious to see who lives in the area," the tall brown-haired one said. From his posture I could tell he was the leader of this group, even though he stood the farthest behind. His emotions told me he was lying; curiosity wasn't he intent. His eyes shifted to Bella. "That smells wonderful do you mind sharing? Or should we fight for it?" I loud growl escaped my chest, and I lowered farther into a crouch. "You will not touch my mate." The deep echo of the major's voice escapes.

They all lower into crouches too, but don't advance. "That's too bad, I guess both of you will have to die."

"Bella run!" As much as it pained me not to have her in my sight, or safely behind me I knew the instinct of having a mate behind us and pressed against our back would not work. The three would surround us and leave Bella vulnerable to whoever was behind me. "Bella! Please go! I'll find you." She finally moves and disappears into the forest.

All three vampires run towards me in vampire speed. One of them tries to pass me to get to where Bella ran, and I pulled him back and slammed him into the ground with a loud thud. I throw as much fear and pain as I can at them and the weakest crumpled to the floor. Two down.

The leader manages to grab a hold of my head, I try to shake him off but with his nails dug deep into my eyebrow, the force would decapitate me. Instead, I rip his arm off at the shoulder with a thunderous roar.

The other two stupidly tried to attack me again and I ripped them both apart before they could do more damage to me. The leader tried to escape but I caught him, and he suffered the same fate as the other two. I pulled out my zippo and lit the pile of limbs. I made sure the heads were burnt first, so there was no chance of them surviving.

"No! Stop! Don't! Jasper!" I heard Bella's screaming and immediately ran towards her following the pull. Deep in the forest I found Bella being pulled her jacket collar in the mouth of a wolf.

"You dare take what is mine wolf?!" I roared and am momentarily stunned realizing I'm in major mode and I can still function, and not black out. The major is working with me to ensure our mate's safety.

The russet colored wolf lets go of Bella and stands in front of her. He tries to protect my mate from me. I'm almost trembling with rage. "Move away from Isabella, or I will remove you." The deep voice of the major rings out. He growls at me, I smell three other wolfs coming our way fast. One of them tried to attack me from behind but I managed to throw him off of me. He whimpered as his back broke against a tree. The russet colored wolf grabbed Bella while the black wolf and more ambushed me. I try my best to not kill them but harm them enough to get Bella. I broke arms, and legs, and knocked a couple unconscious.

The russet wolf crossed the treaty line when I caught up, and without hesitation, I ran after him. I threw as much lethargy, depression, and emptiness at him and his legs bucked as he fell to the ground in a deep sleep.

I grabbed Bella, and ran her to her home. We have to leave Forks, I have to call Peter and make plans, why didn't Alice see this?

Bella quietly walked to her room upstairs, I wanted to follow her and comfort my mate but I had to start planning. Carlisle called me yesterday and told me that the Volutri are missing. Not just the leaders but also every Volutri member from the royals to the guard are all gone. My suspicions were confirmed something big is happening, bigger than random vampires attacking covens.

I pulled out my phone and right as I do it starts ringing.

"Peter." I answer.

"Major, you have to take your pretty little mate and leave that town now. As soon as those vamps you destroyed don't check in there will be more coming that way. You leave now and tomorrow's rain will wipe out your scent no one will be able to follow. Tell Bella to leave her father and the wolves a note."

"Peter what's going on?" I ask him.

"Not something I can share right now. Don't go to any of your properties. Go somewhere new, and least expected. Bella should have what you both need to get away."

He hung up before I could even saying anything. Fuck! What the hell is happening?

A/N: Ok let me explain some things. Jasper has finally learned to control major, or at least is discovering a way to coexist with him instead of locking him in a 'cage'. It was established in earlier chapters Eve put the Volutri in hiding to keep them safe. No one knows this but the Volutri and her. There is a battle on the horizon that both sides are gearing up for even though one side doesn't know it yet.
