Enjolras' POV

"Do I have to go?" I asked, looking up from my English essay that I need to hand in tomorrow. "It's a must and can't you see? It's raining snow out there!" 'Ferre tried convincing me to go out and 'play' in the snow. The word 'play' sounded too childish and immature and the last time I played in the snow was probably about, I don't know, ten Christmases ago, when I was eight. It was the first and last time I ever got to touch the snow at all and actually play in it. It was the last time because I almost drowned ice-skating. My skates drew a perfect circle on the ice and I accidentally stepped in the circle and fell into the water below the ice. I never got to go out of the house in winter after the incident ever again. "Raining snow doesn't make sense and I need to finish this stupid essay first then I can get out of here." I said. 'Ferre shook his head. "Nuh-uh. No. You wouldn't dare stay here alone."

"At least it's better than playing and being immature, childish seniors. I'll be just fine on my own, doing my work." I said and went back to work. "Seriously, you have got to loosen up. It's been a long time since you played in the snow and maybe you might want to give it another try." 'Ferre tried again. I sighed. "Would you stop bugging me?" I asked exasperatedly. "Nope. Not until you come out of this room and go out to play." He said, smirking. I groaned and stood up from my seat, causing 'Ferre to shout a 'YES!'. I put on my red jacket as 'Ferre put on his light blue one. We walked out of the dorm building, through the school building and finally out into the open. There were centimeters and centimeters of snow. We saw all the Les Amis there, including Eponine, Musichetta, Cosette, Azelma and Gavroche, minding their own businesses. "Hey, guys!" 'Ferre shouted over to them, causing the attention to turn to us. Everyone waved and said their hellos. We walked closer and saw that they successfully built a snowman. "Look at what we accomplished!" Bossuet declared loudly, obviously proud of himself. Right at that moment, he tripped over something and fell right on top of the snowman. Everyone groaned. "Dude! Seriously! We took so much time and put so much effort in that!" Bahorel said. I ended up laughing with 'Ferre. "Alright, people. We can build a new one and as you don't know, I am a snowman-building expert." 'Ferre said, smiling smugly. Everyone cheered as they started rolling snow into balls and rolled them over to 'Ferre. He put the medium one on top of the biggest one and the smallest one on the very top. We put a carrot as the nose and small pebbles as eyes and the mouth. We built about four snowmans in ten minutes and I couldn't believe I was actually enjoying what we were doing. Maybe 'Ferre's right. Maybe I do need to loosen up. "Let's have a snowball fight!" Marius suggested. We all nodded in agreement and picked up some snow for ourselves. We started throwing them around carelessly until Courf stopped all of us. "Guys! That's not how you do it! I know you guys are having more fun this way but there are rules. Number one and the most important: Don't just throw them! Try hitting a person and hide from people who are trying to throw it at you. Get it?" He said as all of us nodded and continued throwing but this time, at certain people. Courf was right. It was way more fun that way. I got hit a couple of times but after Grantaire and Marius started throwing the snowballs at Bossuet, everyone joined in. It got a little out of hand but Bossuet enjoyed getting hit. Then all of us lied down on the snow and made snow angels. While we were making snow angels, Musichetta put on some music on her phone and she just happened to bring speakers to make the music louder. Nobody could stand making snow angels when music was on. Soon, we were all dancing to the beat and had a little picnic. It was really unusual because nobody on this earth would have a picnic in the snow but we did and it was better than a picnic on a hot day. "Let's go ice-skating." Eponine suggested after we finished our lunches. I stopped dead. Everyone was already heading towards the frozen lake in front but I was left behind. Eponine turned back and frowned. She walked back to me and grabbed my arm. "C'mon! It's gonna be fun!" She said, tugging at my sleeve. I was still as a statue and I felt like I couldn't move at all. Eponine eyed me carefully and slapped me softly on the face. "Hey, you alright?" She asked. I didn't shake me head nor nod. My eyes were focused on the frozen lake in front of me, not breaking contact. "Seriously, you're scaring me. Stop it." Eponine said. I slowly shook my head. "What do you mean by that?" She asked.

"I don't want to go." I said. She raised an eyebrow. "Well, since we've been friends since forever, there aren't any secrets you keep from me." She said, smirking. I sighed. "Okay, since you kind of deserve to know, I almost died when I was ice-skating. I was about eight years old." I said, pretending not to care but I actually did. She covered a hand over her mouth and mumbled something. "What was that?" I asked.

"I said wow. I can't believe you went through that and are still alive and-" I shot her a seriously? look and she cleared her throat. "That's unfortunate." She said. "But please, you can at least try and-You know what? I'll teach you everything." She said as she grabbed my arm and started running towards the frozen lake. For a minute there, I wanted my boots to be breaks but after all, I'm not a car. When we reached the frozen lake, everyone was already skate-dancing and couples were skating together. It was just us Les Amis so nobody was there to scold all of us for our silly behavior. Eponine handed me a pair of skates and I uncertainly put them on. She waited for me to finish and after I did, she pulled me onto the frozen lake and that was when I remembered that I completely forgot how to ice skate. I stopped abruptly, causing Eponine to almost slip and fall butt-first onto the ice. "Shit. I don't know how to skate." I said.

"Awww, come on! Don't start lying. It's not your thing. Let's go." She said but I stopped her. "No, seriously. I don't know how to skate. The last time I went ice skating was when I almost died, remember?" Her eyes fell to the ground. "Oh." She said. Then her head shot up and she clutched my hand. "Follow my lead." She said, pulling me further into the ice-skating rink (from now on, that's what I'll call it) and I felt my legs wobble. I'm really not good at this. Eponine linked her arm with mine and started moving faster. "Move your legs like this." She said as she showed me how to do it. I tried once and, just like a miracle, it all came back to me. I slowly let go of her arm and started skating by myself. After some not-so-painful falls, I was able to skate all by myself, just like a pro. We spent about an hour on the rink and we all walked back to the dorms after all the skating. "I'm so bored!" Feuilly whined as we were standing in the hallway between our rooms. There were mumbles of approval as Courf spoke up. He ALWAYS has something to say. "We could decorate a Christmas tree!" He said excitedly.

"No, let's play games and hang out." Grantaire said, heading to his room. Bahorel grabbed his arm and said , "I'm going to agree with Monsieur 'Feyrac on that one."

"Me too." Cosette and Marius said at the same time then giggled. "Me three." Eponine said at the same time as Gavroche and Azelma. "Okay, okay. Show of hands. Who wants to decorate a Christmas tree?" 'Ferre asked. Everybody raised their hands except for Grantaire and Bossuet. "Then decorating it is!" 'Ferre said as we went back to our rooms to change and after a minute or two, we came out with some ornaments of our own to put on a Christmas tree. "I have a question. Where is the Christmas tree?" I asked. We exchanged glances and then looked at Courf, who suggested it in the first place. He rubbed the back of his neck and laughed nervously. "Oh, wait! I know! We could ask Madame Fantine to put up a Christmas tree in foyer. That would be great, won't it?" Courf suggested as we all nodded. We walked to Madame Fantine's office and by the time we got there, we were extremely tired. We decided that Cosette went to ask her mom because it was her mom so there wouldn't be any trouble if Cosette asked. We waited in front of Madame Fantine's office as Cosette went in. After a few minutes, Cosette came out and looked somewhat depressed. "What happened?" Marius asked, walking over to her. "She said...YES!" Cosette screamed and jumped up and down with Marius. "Where is the tree, then?" Azelma asked.

"Mom said it's in the storage room. It's a huge one." Cosette replied as we all walked to the storage room. We opened the door and a ginormous Christmas tree tumbled out of the small space. We carried it to the foyer of the school and started putting it up. We hung up all the ornaments and decorated the with all kinds things. After an hour, we finished decorating and were really exhausted. We went back to our rooms to get some rest and I realized that I didn't even finish my essay. "Shit." I mumbled as I took off my jacket, scarf and everything and ran to my desk, frantically trying to finish it. 'Ferre was standing at the front door, talking to Joly and Jehan. Wait a minute. Jehan is here! I went to the front door with my English essay in hand and gave it to Jehan. "Would you be a great friend and finish this for me?" I asked Jehan, who was really confused. After I explained to him that it was an English essay about poetry, he agreed to help me. Then I came back into the room to actually relax for once as 'Ferre closed the door. "So you had fun?" He asked. I scoffed. "Oh, please. It was boring." I lied. It was the wrongest lie I ever told in my life. "Your face doesn't say that." He raised an eyebrow. I sighed and leaned back in my chair. "Fine, fine. I had so much fun decorating the Christmas tree. You know, I never actually got to decorate a real Christmas tree." I said.

"Well, it looks like you already have. I just learned that it's your first real Christmas this year, isn't it?" He said, going to the kitchen to get something. "Yeah. It's going to be my first real Christmas. It's hardly here yet." I corrected him. "Whatever but since it's your first ever real Christmas with your best ever friends, you have to have fun. Fun is the keyword. Got it?" He said, leaning on the kitchen door frame. I nodded. "Aye, aye, Captain Combeferre. Crystal clear." I said and saluted like a soldier. Then we cracked up at the same time. 'Ferre got up from the ground after he stopped laughing and realized that he spilled water all over his shirt. "I'll go change." He said and went into the bathroom. I was still laughing but I managed to get myself to the couch and turned on the TV. I flipped through the channels and found a great movie to watch: The Amazing Spiderman. After he finished changing, 'Ferre joined me on the couch and handed me a bag of marshmallows. At about half of the movie, someone knocked on the door. I opened it and saw Jehan with my English essay in his hand. "Thank you so much. Is there any way I could repay you or something?" I said. He shook his head. "That's okay. I do it for free." He said and smiled. To be friendly, I hugged him and thanked him again. I never knew I had such great friends to count on and that they could be such wonderful companions.
