DISCLAIMER: You all know that already after 31 chapter, right? Of course I don't own it.
Eponine's POV
OMG, OMG, OMG. I can't believe I'm going to graduate already. Four years of high school and now I'm going to college. It's been the most awesome year ever. I have a boyfriend, I have wonderful friends that help me and I have things that a girl like me wouldn't ever get. How unbelievable. I couldn't stop having crazy thoughts in my head until I heard a loud shriek. It was from Cosette and Musichetta. I ran to the living room and asked, "What in the world is going on?"
"WE'RE GRADUATING, EP! WE'RE GRADUATING! But you are too quiet. Scream!" 'Sette shouted. I simply couldn't pull myself together and we all started jumping around and screaming like little kids. "Wait, what clothes do we wear?" 'Chetta asked. That caused us to stop jumping and screaming. We haven't thought about that yet… "Dresses and heels." I blurted out. 'Sette and 'Chetta stared at me for a while before squealing. "Our Ep has finally realized the purpose of dresses and heels!" 'Sette screamed. I laughed at her ridiculousness and went to my closet. 'Sette and 'Chetta followed me but 'Sette walked to her own closet and 'Chetta just sat on my bed, waiting. I caught sight of a short dress with a green top and a flowery dark maroon skirt. I took it out of the hanger and showed it to 'Sette and 'Chetta. "That's just perfect!" 'Sette said, eying every inch of the dress. Then 'Sette showed us hers. It was a pink-ish creme dress that she matched up with gray flowery tights. "I'd wear this with salmon flats." She said, looking at the dress. 'Chetta nodded. "Yep. Flats are good."
"So what about you, 'Chetta?" I asked.
"I've already got everything in my room. You guys go change." She said as 'Sette went into the bathroom. I waited for her to come out then I went in and changed. Just as I stepped out of the bathroom, I realized that I haven't told them about the thing that happened yesterday yet. "I have something to tell you. Let's go to the living room." I said, walking to the living room with 'Sette and 'Chetta following close behind me. I told them to sit on the couch as I stood in front of them. I really don't know how to say this. "Um..." I gulped. "I...uh...well, I don't know how exactly to put this...but I am in a...love process...with a...Okay, you know what? This is taking way too long." I took a deep breathe. "EnjolrasandIaregoingout." I slurred quickly. 'Sette and 'Chetta had confused looks on their faces. "What did you just say?" They asked in unison. Then they shared knowing and understanding looks. "You are going out with him?" 'Chetta asked in a flirtatious way, wiggling her eyebrows at me. I could've sworn that I turned a deep shade of red. 'Sette and 'Chetta started screaming. "OH MY GOSH! OH MY GOSH! OH. MY. GOSH! Why didn't you tell me?! I'm so happy! I've been waiting for this to happen for centuries!" 'Sette screamed, hugging me. 'Chetta was dancing around the room, squealing. Since I couldn't hold the excitement, I decided to join in. After a while, we stopped. "'Chetta, you should get dressed. I think we should probably go before we're late." I said. She nodded and raced back to her room to change. About 5 minutes later, she came back to my room. "Wow. That was quick." 'Sette said, putting on her salmon flats. I put on the black pumps 'Sette gave me. 'Chetta already had her purple pumps on. She was wearing a short purple dress with light pink tights and a purple headband on her head. She looked like Daphne in Scooby-Doo only her hair was shorter and redder. We put on our black graduation gowns and hats and headed off to the gym, where the graduation ceremony was held. Every senior was there already, sitting on the bleachers. Madame Fantine and the other teachers were standing in the middle, talking. We tiptoed across the gym and made our way to the bleachers. We sat in the row that Les Amis were sitting. 'Sette went in first, followed by me then 'Chetta. We were at the very end of the row, to be exact. "Can I go sit next to Marius?" 'Sette asked. I and 'Chetta nodded as she made her way through the other guys to her boyfriend. Then 'Chetta said she wanted to sit with Joly so both of us found our boyfriends and went to sit next to them. "Hey." Enjolras said. I smiled and kissed his cheek. "Hey." I said.
"You nervous?" He asked. I shook my head then, after a long pause, nodded. He simply laughed and I smacked his arm. "Seriously. This is a fucking graduation day. How could I not be nervous?" I said. Then as an afterthought, I added, "Or maybe you're the one who's not normal because you're never nervous."
"Sure. I like being different." He said, crossing his arms over his chest. Then parents started flooding into the gym. The staffs and teachers navigated them to sit on the bleachers on the other side. After everything was settled, Madame Fantine stood in the middle of the gym holding a microphone in her hand. "Good morning, students, parents and teachers. Today is one of the days I've been waiting for but at the same time, I've not been waiting for. I'm really happy to see our students, who were once young children playing in the playground, being mature seniors who are graduating today. All of them had been amazing students and had been contributing to activities, projects and everything possible. I'm just going to keep this short...So thank you, parents, for enrolling your children in this school. We are and have always been very grateful to have such wonderful students here at this school. Thank you so much once again." Madame Fantine said and everyone clapped. Some students even whooped. "Shit. Now's my turn." Enjolras said as he got up from his seat and walked towards the podium.
Enjolras' POV
I was a nervous wreck. My legs were shaking as I made my way to the podium. My palms were getting sweaty and my breathing got heavier by the minute. I gulped and walked up to the microphone at the podium. I took a last deep breathe and cleared my throat. "Good morning everyone. I am here as a representative from Class of 2013. This year has been a great year and I've learned so many things. One of the big things I learned is that, whenever you do something, you have to finish it. You can't stop trying. Don't give up and don't underestimate yourself. Maybe you are more capable of things than you think you are. Maybe you just aren't trying hard enough to achieve something. It all depends on you. Even if it seems difficult or completely impossible, think to yourself, "Nothing is impossible for me." Because if you think of it positively, everything might turn out just fine. But still, you have to keep trying until you make it. Luck has little to do with success but determination is the key to success. Things could get worst but if you keep trying, things will get better. There will be a future awaiting in front of all of us but we just don't know what it is. We might not get into a college but there are many other colleges around the world. Good luck, everyone and remember, don't stop trying." As everyone burst into an enormous fit of applause, I let out a heavy sigh of success. I don't know if there's such a thing as a sigh of success but apparently, for me, it did exist. I smiled to the audience and walked back to my seat. I received hugs from Jehan, 'Ferre, Courf, Bahorel, Eponine, Marius and Joly and I received pats on the back from Grantaire (although he looked like he wanted to hug me), Feuilly, Bossuet, Cosette and Musichetta. I sat down as Madame Fantine told every senior to line up in the middle of the gym. The other teachers had a diploma in their hands and they were smiling like weirdos. Madame Fantine called everyone's names one by one to shake hands with her and pick up their diplomas. After that was done, we took a group picture and threw our hats in the air, clapping and cheering. "Excuse me, everyone. We have one last thing." Madame Fantine said into the microphone. "We decided to grant scholarship to four students, who have done remarkably well in what they love doing. A scholarship to Juilliard College for musical theater goes to Eponine." Everyone clapped as Eponine, who looked like a lost little girl, went up to Madame Fantine. They hugged each other and Eponine took the letter from Madame Fantine. Tears were in her eyes and she was smiling like she never did before. She wiped her eyes as she walked to stand further away from Madame Fantine. "A scholarship to Yale University for law goes to Enjolras." I was shocked. Me? Go to law school at Yale University? YALE UNIVERSITY?! "Aren't you gonna go up? It's your chance, man! Go!" Courf said, pushing me forward. I made my way to Madame Fantine and she gave me a hug. "You deserve this." She whispered, handing me the letter. I breathed slowly, trying to calm myself down. I walked to stand beside Eponine and hugged her. We pulled away as Madame Fantine continued announcing. "A scholarship to Harvard Medical School goes to Joly." Joly hugged Musichetta and Bossuet (Joly and Bossuet are best friends, for your information) and came up to Madame Fantine. They hugged and Joly took the letter. He practically wanted to scream when he walked over to where Eponine and I were. He hugged both of us and we impatiently stood there, waiting for the last person to be announced. "And last but not least, a scholarship to Parsons College for fashion designing goes to Cosette." Cosette had her mouth wide open. Marius hugged her and pushed her towards Madame Fantine. She smiled widely and hugged her mom. She took the letter from Madame Fantine and ran straight to Eponine, hugging her. Everyone burst into a massive fit of applause and the four of us did nothing but smile. The ceremony ended and all of the teachers, parents and seniors hung around in the gym, talking and congratulating. Then I caught sight of my parents, who were literally glowing with pride. My mom hugged me first. "Oh, darling! I'm so proud of you! I already imagine you being a lawyer. This is just fantastic!" She said and hugged me again. Then my dad awkwardly hugged me. "I'm proud of you, son, but I know you can do even better." He said and smiled genuinely for the first time in years. I hugged them one more time and went to say goodbye to my friends. The scene was quite emotional. To say goodbye to people who meant a lot to you for the past years wasn't easy at all. "Hey, guys. I'm really going to miss you." I said, holding back my tears. They all let out disappointed sounds and we formed a group hug. "Don't forget me, okay?" Courf said. A tear rolled down his cheek and as I looked up, everyone was already crying. We split up and said our individual goodbyes. I confronted Eponine first. I was trying to decide whether I should introduce Eponine to my parents or not. "So? I saw your parents." She said, wiping her eyes. "Do you want to meet them? Do you want me to introduce you? Because I could but if that's not necessary then I won't." She shrugged. "Sure. You can't keep it away from them forever." I grabbed her hand and dragged her over to where my parents were standing. "Mom, dad. This is Eponine." I said as Eponine smiled. My parents shared a look and turned back to us. "She's your...?" My mom asked. I nodded firmly. My dad looked like he wanted to crush me but my mom did the unexpected. She straight on hugged Eponine. My dad mouthed a 'what?' and I shrugged. When they pulled away, I said, "Sorry but we've got to go. Well, see you later!" and walked back to Les Amis. I hugged Eponine tightly for, perhaps, the last time and we kissed. "I'm really gonna miss you. I just can't explain the feeling right now." She said, crying. We hugged once more as I started crying. After we pulled away, I left her to say goodbye to her own friends as I said goodbye to mine. "It was nice having you as my best friend." 'Ferre suddenly appeared behind me. I smiled. "Is it only 'nice'? Seriously, can't you say anything better than 'nice'?" I said as he laughed.
"Fine. Wonderful. Stupendous. Barricadulous." I laughed.
"Is that a word? You know what? I actually like it. Barricadulous. I'll remember that as a memory about you." I said. We stood in silence before 'Ferre hugged me. I couldn't help myself so I just broke down crying. "This isn't the moment you cry, Enj. It's the moment you don't cry and console people." He said shakily. I hugged him tighter. "We might as well look like a gay couple right now." I stated, laughing a little. He chuckled and let go of me. "So I guess this is it, right?" He asked. I nodded solemnly. We hugged again and bid each other goodbye. Then Bahorel, Jehan and Courf walked up to me, tissues in hand. I just didn't say anything and hugged them straight away. After that, Marius talked to me about some politic things before not hearing them from me again and we hugged. Then Grantaire came along and he didn't really want to talk to me that much. "Is everything okay?" I asked him. He wanted to nod but he shook his head. "I think I like you." He said and ran away. That left me confused. Do my ears need a checkup or something? I shrugged to myself and bumped into Feuilly. We hugged and talked for a little until my parents told me they wanted to leave. I hugged each of my friends for the last time and went out of the school with my parents. I realized that Les Amis followed me out to the parking lot and waved to me as we drove off. I felt really touched and started crying all over again. I have a feeling that it wasn't the absolute last time I would meet them but my instincts weren't always telling the truth. Or were they?
