Chapter 17: The Best Family
Gregory was asleep when he felt Anya bounce on the bed. "Wake up, Gregory!" She said happily.
He groaned, snuggling further into the blankets. "Come on, big brother! Wake up!" The little girl said, giggling.
He didn't reply as he hugged his pillow tightly. He didn't hear someone else come in, but deep chuckles suddenly filled the room. "Gregory, it's time to wake up," came Sun's voice.
"Or we're calling in a friend to wake you up," came Moon's voice.
Gregory groaned and curled up in a ball. "Come on, guys. Let me sleep," he groaned out.
"We would, but it's almost nine in the morning, Sunshine," Sun said.
"Time to shake the sleep dust from your eyes, Starlight," Moon said.
Anya jumped up on the bed again. "Come on, brother! Get up! Up! Up!" She said, still giggling.
The boy slowly opened his eyes and went to sit up before yelping as he was scooped up, blankets and all, by Sun. "Rise and shine!" The daytime animatronic said with a grin.
Gregory felt something grab his ankles and laughed as Moon tickled his feet. "Tickle, tickle, tickle!" He cooed at him. "Let's shake away that sleepiness."
"AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! MOOHOOHOOHOOHOOHOON!" The boy laughed out.
Yor came down the hallway and smiled as she saw this. "Moon, are you bullying my son?" She asked playfully.
"No, ma'am," he said, grinning as he kept tickling the boy's feet. "But he's being very stubborn about waking up."
"Oh, is he?" She asked, going up to them and seeing Gregory had managed to get free of the blankets. "Wake up, sweetie. It's morning."
"Mom," Gregory groaned out as Moon let him up from the tickle torture.
"Nope, no falling back asleep now, honey," she said, scooping her son up into her arms and giving him quick, playful kisses on his forehead and face, making him laugh.
"Mohohohohohohohohohom!" The boy protested through his laughter, but the two animatronics could tell the boy didn't mind the affection.
Yor smiled and stopped her playful attack. "Now my son is bright eyes and bushy tailed," she said. "Come on. Your father is making breakfast."
Gregory perked up at hearing that as Loid was an awesome cook like Yor and the young boy had begun to look forward to when it was time to eat. Anya giggled and hugged Moon's leg, to which he scooped her up into his arms while Sun quickly straightened out Gregory's blanket back on the bed. "There," he said after a moment.
They headed to the dining room where Loid was talking to Vanessa and Kayla, both of who smiled at the other four while holding cups of coffee. "Good morning, ya'll," the latter greeted warmly.
"Good morning, everyone," the taller blonde woman said.
"Vanessa! Kayla!" Sun greeted them cheerfully, hugging them both and they hugged him back.
"Nessa! Kay-Kay!" Anya cheered happily, reaching for them and Moon handed the child to Vanessa. The little girl hugged her older sisters happily before Gregory joined in on the hug.
"How are you doing, Gregory?" Kayla asked with a smile.
"Doing good," he said.
"Those bullies have left you alone, right?"
He looked up at her. "How did you know that?" He asked.
She smiled. "Misterioso witnessed you get bullied last week and he told Monty," she said. "That gator scared quite a few of your classmates with his entrance."
"When was this?" The boy asked.
"It was the time you were at the doctor," Loid said. "Kayla found out what happened and called me."
"I did get on Monty a bit for his actions, but he meant well," the teen said. "No one messes with our brother and gets away with it."
Yor smiled. "Well, Sun and Moon agreed to watch over the house today while Loid and I took Anya and Gregory on a road trip today," she said. "Vanessa? Kayla? Would you both like to join us?"
"Thank you for the offer, but I have a double shift at work today," Vanessa said. "One of my coworkers got called away due to a family emergency."
"I'm afraid I have to politely decline too," Kayla admitted. "I've been helping my former team with a case as it involves a few criminals, one being very slippery. Chief remembered how I caught this slippery criminal before and asked me to come on board for this case."
"Would you consider joining the group full time again?" Loid asked curiously.
"I've thought about that, but I'm happy with just being the gadget maker," she admitted. "My spy days are behind me, but if Chief does need my help on a case, he knows he can count on me."
"Where are we going today, Dad?" Gregory asked.
"You'll see, son," Loid said with a smile.
As everyone went their separate ways, Gregory and Anya played I Spy and the road alphabet game, giving each other hints if one of them got stuck. Yor smiled as she watched her children and Loid smiled as well before he pulled up into a building. "Here we are," he said.
The two kids looked to see what it was and their eyes widened. "Whoa," Gregory said. "The Pizzaplex?"
"An improved Pizzaplex," Yor said. "Kayla and her uncle James worked on getting the land and the proper permits. And since Kayla is the official owner of the animatronics, she decided to build a new pizzaplex."
"It looks like a mall," Anya said in awe.
"It is," Loid said. "And we are the first people to go inside and shop and eat in it."
"Really?" Gregory asked in shock.
"That's right," Yor said. "Come on. Everyone hop out of the car."
The kids eagerly jumped out and they gasped as they saw Kayla standing at the doors of the new building with two security guards on either side of her. She smiled as she saw them and they ran up to her, hugging her. "You really built all this?" The boy asked.
"With some help from some friends, yes," she said.
"It looks big," Anya said.
"Wait until you see inside," Kayla said, grinning.
Loid and Yor walked up to them and Kayla turned to the guards. "Please open the doors," she requested. "And no one except who is on the list is to be let in today."
"Yes, ma'am," the guards said as the doors were opened and the family followed the teen inside.
The kids gasped in surprise. "Whoa," Gregory said as he looked around, spotting something that caught his eye. "Wait, the animatronics have their own stores?"
"That they do," Kayla said. "They'll get to interact with patrons more, especially Sun and Moon. Even DJ has his own store front."
"Wow!" Anya said in surprise as she saw a plush of Moon and went up to take a closer look, giggling.
"That's quite an idea, Kayla," Loid said.
"Thank you, but I can't take all the credit," she said. "Sun and Moon mentioned how a gift shop had items for everyone, but it seemed kind of small. I only found three other gift shops in the old plex and decided that just wouldn't do."
"Only four gift shops for such a large place?" Yor asked.
"And tiny ones at that," the teen said. "Chica actually wished for a shop that would sell pastries she'd make and that gave me the idea for everyone having a store front. When I ran it by them, Roxy was the first to agree to the idea right after Chica. Even Monty and Freddy were surprised."
"Look! Sonar's got his own shop too!" Anya said excitedly.
"So does Misterioso!" Gregory said.
"And best of all, the items are more than affordable. Fazbear's was charging well over double the price they paid for the items to be made and that was why their sales were down, but they hoped the money they did get would be enough to erase the past," Kayla said.
"Glad to see someone is willing to change all that," Loid said.
The teen smiled before leading them to the restaurant. "A full buffet is ready for you all," she said. "Help yourselves."
The kids excitedly grabbed plates and began to fill them up. Loid and Yor did the same, finding the food to be delicious. Afterwards, they explored the rest of the new plex, going on the new rides and having a blast. Gregory hugged his parents. "This is so awesome!" He said. "Do you think we can come here more often, Mom and Dad?"
"I don't see why not," Yor said with a smile.
"Especially to see all our friends," Loid said.
"And you all, being family, get free entry as part of the annual VIP experience," Kayla said, smiling.
The family had a wonderful time and by the time they got home, the two kids were asleep in the back of the car. Kayla, who had joined them, smiled. "Think they'll be awake for their big surprise?" She asked.
"I think they will be," Yor said. "Especially since it's their birthdays."
Just as they arrived home, the kids woke up. "Are we home already?" Gregory asked.
"That we are," Loid said. "And there's a surpirse waiting for you kids inside."
Curious, the two went inside, finding the door unlocked. Cautious, they entered the house and went to the living room, stopping in shock at seeing all the animatronics sitting around. On a table were two large cakes and there were presents all over the place.
"Guys!" Gregory said happily, running up to them and hugging them.
"You're all here!" Anya cheered, running up and hugging them too.
"Well of course we are," Roxy said, grinning. "We wouldn't miss this party for anything."
"Party?" Gregory asked.
Freddy smiled. "Well, we received an invitation to yours and Anya's birthday parties," he said.
The boy blinked. "How did you guys know it's my birthday?"
The animatronics turned to Misterioso, who chuckled. "Well, I was asked to by my owner," he said.
The boy turned to Kayla, who tried to look innocent, but couldn't hide the smile on her face. "Charles found out for me when your adoption went through and your mom and dad asked if the animatronics and I would set this up for you," she said. "I was hoping the new plex would be ready too in time so that you kids could be the first to see it."
"You guys have your own shops!" Anya said with a grin.
"Yeah, they're pretty cool, huh?" Monty asked, smiling. "Kayla really pulled it off."
"I had a good team helping me," the teen replied.
"Well, let's dig in!" Chica said excitedly.
The cakes was cut and after everyone enjoyed the dessert, the kids opened their gifts and were surprised to find the items were from the shops they had just seen. "Those gifts are from all of us," Misterioso said. "We asked Kayla if she could hold some of the items aside for you kids."
"This is so cool!" Gregory said, trying on his new Misterioso cape.
"Yeah!" Anya said, hugging a plush of Roxy tightly.
Loid and Yor smiled and looked at each other. "To think, had we not taken that job to check the Pizzaplex, we wouldn't have gained a son and more family members," the dark-haired woman said.
Her husband smiled. "I can't imagine life without them now," he said.
Gregory smiled as he heard this and hugged his little sister, who hugged him back happily. It had been more of an adventure than the boy or young girl had been looking for when they first got to the Pizzaplex, but they had learned the valuable lesson that true family was security.
And they both now had a large family that proved that.
