Chapter 17

Yumi woke up and looked around, finding herself in the hospital. Matt was beside her and sleeping in a chair. Concerned, Yumi checked her stomach and to her relief, her baby was still kicking, but she was feeling some pain. She let out a pained groan, which woke Matt up right away.

"My love!" He said, relieved. "Are you okay?"

"Yes," she said. "But...why am I here?"

"You were folding the clothes when you suddenly collapsed," he said. "Asahi and 4 were home with you and got you over here as quick as they could before they called me and the others."

A doctor came in and she smiled at the two. "How are you feeling, hon?" She asked Yumi sweetly.

"I'm in some pain, but alright for the most part," she said. "Matt was telling me I collapsed at home."

The doctor nodded. "Do you remember feeling any pain before you passed out?" She asked.

"Actually, I did," Yumi said. "I felt a sharp pain down my leg and then I passed out. I remember now."

"The baby is pressing on your sciatic nerve," the doctor replied. "No doubt caused the sudden pain you felt and that, combined with tiredness due to pregnancy, led to you passing out."

"Is she and our son going to be okay, Doc?" Matt asked.

"Yes, both are going to be okay," she said, smiling. "Your brothers got her here in time."

"Thank goodness," he said, feeling relieved.

"And it looks like the baby is due within the next few days," the doctor said, smiling.

Yumi suddenly cried out as a sharp pain hit her. "OW!" She exclaimed.

"Yumi?" Matt said, taking her hand in concern.

The doctor quickly made a call. "Guess the baby's coming into the world sooner than we thought," she said, grabbing on gloves as a couple nurses came in. "Alright, let's get her into delivery, guys. We don't know how far apart the contractions are yet."

Yumi cried out again and the doctor nodded. "Okay, I stand corrected. They're close together," she amended.

Matt walked beside his wife as he continued to hold her hand. "I've got you, honey," he said.

"Matt," she whimpered out.

"It's okay, my love," he soothed.

They soon arrived and as quickly as it all began, it was soon over and the doctor smiled as she brought over the newborn to the parents. "It's a boy," she said.

"Our son," Yumi said as she accepted the baby.

"What's his name?" A nurse filling out the forms asked.

"Oliver," Matt said.

"That's a wonderful name," the nurse said.

Another nurse knocked and smiled. "Sorry to disturb, but there is a group of people asking to see the new parents," she said.

"You can let them in," Matt said with a nod.

Pearl and the cousins came in first and were in awe at seeing the little one. "Oh, he's so precious," Marie cooed.

Oliver let out a strong cry and Yumi comforted him. "Shh, Mommy's here, little one," she soothed and the baby calmed down, snuggling in her arms.

Captain Cuttlefish smiled. "Congratulations, you two," he said. "A strong young lad."

Yumi smiled and looked at her husband. "Come here, honey," she said.

He moved closer and she handed his son to him and he held the boy close, instinct taking over as he recalled when T.K. was born. "Reminds me of when T.K. was born," he admitted.

8 smiled at hearing that. "How does it feel holding your son?" She asked.

"I...I hope I can be a good dad to him and Saki both," Matt admitted.

"You already are, bro," Asahi said with a smile.

"I agree," 4 said.

"Plus, you've got us to help out with raising him," Callie said.

"Oh, you better let us babysit our little nephew," Pearl said. "I've got to teach him music too."

"I got to teach him how to build gadgets," 4 said.

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves, guys," Marina said gently.

"Yeah," Marnie said, giggling. "Our nephew was just born. Let's enjoy him being little. Remember when Saki was that little?"

Captain Cuttlefish laughed gently. "Ah, she was an adventurous baby for sure," he said. "I've no doubt little Oliver will follow in her footsteps."

"With a captain as his grandfather and all of us either singers or adventurers ourselves, he'll have wonderful teachers," Pearl said.

Saki walked up to the bed and tried to get up on it, to which 8 helped her up onto it. "I think someone wants to meet her new little brother," she said.

Matt sat on the bed beside his daughter and he smiled at the little girl. "Say 'hi' to Oliver, kiddo," he said.

"Hi!" Saki said happily.

Oliver opened up his eyes and gazed around at his father and sister before yawning and settling back down in his father's arms.

"Aww," Callie cooed.

"Tell me someone is getting this on camera," Asahi said.

"I am, brother," 8 said.

Yumi chuckled. "Well, everyone gather around to hold Oliver," she said.

The others waited their turns patiently and Oliver opened his eyes a few times, but settled back down as he seemed to understand they were all his family.

Saki giggled and looked up at Matt. "Daddy? Family always?" She asked him.

"Yes, sweetie," he said, picking her up and hugging her. "We're always going to be a family, sweetie, and we'll never give up on each other, Never."

The little girl giggled again and rested her head on her father's shoulder just as he sat down to hold both his children for a picture, preserving the memory of the day and many more to come with the family.
