My name is Samuel Gilbert, adopted son of Greyson and Miranda Gilbert... and honestly, It has taken me so long to get over that fact.

To be honest, I never thought I would be adopted. I never knew my parents, my bio people, and I was rarely interested in meeting them. They abandoned me, so why do I care? Anyway, at some point in the last year or so, the Gilberts, wealthy but kind people, found me. Dr. Grayson was my doctor while in Fostercare, we hit it off and boom he started the process of adopting me... and it worked. Only, he and his awesome wife Miranda died the day after I was fully aloud to move in. That delayed things a bit.

To my shock, Jenna Sommers, Miranda's kid sister, took me in anyway when she got custody of her bio niece Elena and Nephew Jeremy. Meeting them was awkward, Jeremy was rude and Elena was quiet, but I tried... I really did. Jenna was awesome as hell, so I was pretty pumped for her at the least.

Today was the day were set to go to school, my first day at Mystic Falls High School.

I was ready to start anew, to embrace my new life.

My name is Samuel "Sam" Gilbert, and this is my story...

Sighing, Sam grabbed the paper he just wrote on, and focused hard. With a surge of warmth under his skin, he watched as fire formed in his palm, consuming the paper into ash.

"How the hell can I do that?" Sighing, he shook off the cold that came with using his powers. Shaking off his concern, he poured the ashes into his small cactus plant, and moved away towards the door, stopping to smile at his face. He looked tired, as always, with short brown hair and almost see through skin. He was a tiny boy, a bit girlish really, built like a dancer. Wearing a nice hoodie, purple his favorite color, and nice black pants, he felt good. He didn't care much for what others thought, he liked his appearance.

Jenna was chattering to the other two. " Your first day of school and I'm totally unprepared. Lunch money?" She turned to him, smiling with genuine warmth as he walked into the room. "Money?" He smiled, taking some.

"Thanks." Jeremy, his annoying brother, took some as well while Elena shook her head.

"I'm good." She said.

"Anything else? A number two pencil? What am I missing?"

Sam sighed. "You mentioned you had a meeting with your Thesis advisor last night, so go, we got this. I made muffins for everyone earlier." he pulled out muffins from the fridge and handed one to her and Elena.

Jenna nodded. "God, you're sweet." And like that she rushed out, leaving them alone.

"You okay?" Elena started, turning to her bio brother.

Jeremy sneered. "Don't start. "

"Why are yo so ungrateful?" Sam sneered back, making Jeremy cringe. "Be happy you still have family, your worthless peon. Elena cares, I may not be fond of either of you, but I do appreciate that much. Grow up before you ruin what an amazing life you still have."

Jeremy huffed. "What would you know, you've got no family?"

"Exactly, I grew up with nothing, while you've have so much it hurts to see you neglect it. Get over yourself before you ruin all that you have, which I might restate, is a whole hell of a lot. Family, prestige, money, food, and a lovely house. I had nothing for most of my life, I was homeless for two years roughly. I wish I had a fraction of your happiness. Loss, no matter how poignant, does not mean that nothing else has purpose."

Ignoring the boy's rage filled eyes as he stomped out of the room, he turned to Elena. "Jenna said your friend Bonnie is your ride to school, do you think she'd help me?"

Elena, who was stunned by his words, nodded. "I think so, let me text her." She stopped after texting. "You shouldn't have said that."

"Yes, I should have. He is a druggie, I saw him taking pills three days ago. He is going to kill himself, I'd rather be a hardass and keep him alive. I owe your parent and Jenna that much."

For this story, make him a Traveler, make him start with immunity to compulsion, see visions of the deaths of others etc...

This is just an idea for use.
