Mike PoV

"What do you want from me? What could I possibly have that you want?" This is laborious and I have reached the point of demanding. David is being vague and not coming out with what it is he needs from me. I don't understand it though; why would he want to help me and my family in the first place? Did he even know the definition of willingly assisting another? That Max is being targeted to die so that I and everyone else can be free?

"I know all about it, Michael, and quite frankly, while stupid, it is very admirable what your little brother did. I mean, it's not every day someone survives going face to face with a Hell-Hound. Vicious bastards they are." David circles around me, one of his gloved hands running along my back from one shoulder to the next, then grips it as he stops and looks me in the face. "Now unfortunately, Max didn't like that. Oh, he didn't like that at all, Michael. He's very upset at little Sammy and may decide he won't be a perfect son."

" Wait, what?" Perfect son, what the hell was he talking about? "What do you mean? I thought he was after my Mom? What do you mean a perfect son?" Sam, Max is going after my brother. I can't understand what is so great about my family that these monsters coveted to go after us?

"Oh, Max is insane. I, however, just wanted you, Michael. See you passed." Davids laugh still held that cold sinister tone to it, always low and consenting an aloof coldness to crawl under your skin. He walks out from my side, his hand sliding from my shoulder, then he rotates to face me. "That's what I want, Michael. You, in exchange to help. You see Max has this delusion that he can have a family like a normal human, doesn't matter who's destroyed in the process. Oh, have no doubt, Max turns your mother and brother, they will be destroyed from it. They don't have what it takes and Max will break them and then he'll start all over again."

"No, no. I can figure this shit out on my own, I am not going to let you turn me into some monster." I can't stand this. I don't want to listen, it is insane. He anticipates me to renounce being a human being and become a monster.

"He ordered me to kill her." David had turns watching me as I commence to striding pass him. I stopped. Sierra? "You like the strange girl, don't you? Sierra, I believe her name. She don't belong here, but still, I don't want to kill her. No, Michael, I don't want to hurt any of your family or friends. But Max, well, he will only tolerate my stalling for so long. After all, he's a bit angry I took you from him." David actually sounds sympathetic. His kind can't feel an ounce of empathy though. It's an impossible task for them.

"So, what are you going to do?" I turn, not wanting to hear anymore, but I can't help it. I can see the other three move to block the exit to the cave, though I have a feeling it's not for my profit. I don't want them to kill Sierra, she's a nice girl. My family, they won't touch them.

"Well, eventually I'll have to kill her now, wont I?" David pulls a cigarette from his pack, then lights it up, taking a drag before continuing. "And he's now impatient, normally he likes to drag out, earn his victim's trust. But between Sierra, those Frog boys and Sammy's little fun, and then trying to kill his dog, well he's not going to wait for him to eventually mess up his chances. He's likely going to just force your mom to turn within a few nights. Little Samuel, well he may just make him disappear, even if it'll upset your mom, not that she won't be busy going insane to even notice. It doesn't have to come to that though. All you have to do is say yes, either way, Michael: you're mine. But at least this way you get to spare your family, oh and those self proclaimed vampire hunters."

"Why would you even offer to help kill him? I don't get it, what do you get in return if as you say, I'm yours anyway?" It doesn't make too much sense to me. David seems pretty certain of my becoming one of them completely, regardless of what happens.

"Oh, I don't know! We love Max, don't we, boys?" David's ironic question earns him laughter, and not of the pleasant kind. David looks back at me. "He's outlasted his usefulness. We never wanted him. He took over after his brothers untimely accident. But see, even though we want him gone, I can't just go around giving out little secrets and say, have you turn back now, can I? See, I'm taking a risk by talking to you even, so I need something in return. Just you, Michael, that's not too much of a price." Again, the cold sinister laugh leeks from his throat. "I get what I want, you get what you want, Michael. You don't have much time to make a move now and 'ol Maximilian will decidedly kill you as soon as he catches on that you are getting information from me to remove him." David holds out his hand towards me, the look on his face possessing dark amusement and confidence. "Clock's ticking, Michael. What do you say? Deal?"

I glance down at his hand, and then look him in the face, not the eyes. I remember Sierra said something about the eyes.

"How do I know you wouldn't just turn and go after my family? Or Sierra? How do I know this isn't just a trick and lie and after you have me? You and Max don't just force my mom and brother into this or kill them?" The series of questions lead onto David chuckling darkly again. Those chuckles persist to be heard despite them falling on ears that are exhausted from them.

"Really, I'm a man of my word, Michael, and you have my word. I've no interest in your family. You can accept, become part of our family and save your mortal girl, or decline and take the chance you can dream up a solution before Max gets what he wants." David gestures his hand towards me, wanting me to take it. Should I?

David sounds so sincere in his words; do I really have a choice? He really hasn't done anything to my family, other than spook them and he probably could force me to kill, especially with how I'm feeling so it wouldn't be too complex. Sam had spent a few hours in the emergency room because that dog - is there any other way than to do this? He is right though, Max isn't likely to wait to make his move with what happened. I slowly stretch my hand out to take his, that dark amused smirk never leaving his face. I don't want it, but I know Sam would try again and there may not be an escape next time. That is, if Max doesn't kill him and turn my mom first.
