Present Day

I found myself standing in front of the Master once again. Jack was lying on the ground unconscious. The Master had in his hand a thick TARDIS blue diary, which the page were falling to pieces.

"I'm glad I could find you. Long time no see, Kayla." The Master teased.

"What the hell do you want, Master?" I spat back at him.

"Oh, I love it when you use my name!" He exclaimed delightfully.

"I will ask you: What do you want?" I murmured through clenched teeth.

"A favour." He said, simply. Jack stirred, as though he was ready to come back to the world of living but the Master hit him with a blunt instrument, rendering Jack lifeless once again.

"Would you stop that?" I screamed in rage at the Master. The Master stood back and chuckled.

"I will if you would do me a favour." He replied. He held the object back at Jack forehead. I took a deep breath and nodded. "Good girl. Now if you will excuse me…" He started to walk away.

"Hang on!" I made him turn back to face me, "What do you want me to do?"

The Master smiled, despite it looking like a sneer, "I will meet you back at your apartment and explain." He walked away into the distance, his cold laugh still ringing in my ears. Jack stirred once more as I rush to his side.

"I must be alive because we can't be both dead!" Jack joked softly.

"I'm sorry about before." I whimpered, "I didn't mean to fight with you like that."

"It's okay," Jack slurred, "Where's the Master? I want to…"

"Save your strength. You're going to need it." I answered, "Let's get you back to my apartment, and I chat with the Master."

"Why would he be there?" Jack sat up quickly, maybe a bit too quickly as he swayed side to side.

"You'll find out." I responded quietly.

"This better be good" I said as I passed The Master a cup of coffee. Jack was on the bed, resting under my orders. The Master sipped the coffee and smiled.

"You are going to University, doing a major in British History." He replied.

"Okay, one question: Why?" I said, slamming my cup onto the table.

"I need someone on the inside, telling me what's going on with this one man." The Master showed me a photo of a man, his target.

"And why him?" I asked, hoping for a reasonable answer.

"That's for you to find out." Came the reply.

"Okay, what's in it for me, then?" I retorted.

"A simple honest answer." The Master responded innocently. I stared him down but his expression remained unchanged.

"Okay where will Kayla be going?" Came Jack's voice. I spun around to see him standing in the doorway. My heart melted like butter at the sight of him but I had to stay composed and not let my hormone take control.

"London, why?" The Master replied, "I have it all sorted out. Accommodation and University application. I even talked to your beloved Torchwood about ID and other documentation."

"Okay then when do we leave?" Jack asked.

"Tomorrow." The Master said bluntly. "The Semester starts next week, so this will give you plenty of time to settle in."

"I accept then." I remarked. "Time to leave this life behind."

"How are you supposed to just leave this life then?" Jack asked me.

I smiled and plainly said, "Don't you worry, I've got I couple of tricks up my sleeve!"
