She was just about done with the dishes when her cell rang from the table in the living room. "Hey Maur, could you get that for me? My hands are wet."

Maura, hearing Jane call out, reached over and grabbed Jane's cell. Looking at the name displayed on the screen she sighed but answered, nonetheless.

"Jane's phone."

Izzy was taken back for a moment by the voice that was most certainly not Jane. "Oh, um, I didn't realize Jane had company. If it's a bad time I can call back,"

"No, no it's alright, she was expecting your call. Hold on, I'll get her. Hey babe?" Maura called out, moving the phone from her ear.

"Yeah?"

"Izzy is on the line."

"Babe?" She said to herself as she listened to the back and forth before the sound of rustling signaled the passing of the phone.

"Hello?" Jane's voice came through.

"So babe huh? When uh, when did this happen?" Izzy asked with a bit of edge to her words.

Jane cleared her throat, "Hey Maur, I'm gonna step out for a minute. I'll be right back." She gave Maura a quick kiss to the cheek before stepping out onto the balcony.

"So?" Izzy asked when she heard the balcony door slide shut.

Jane sighed, "It's new alright."

"I'll say."

"Can we leave my love life alone for a minute Iz. What's going on with Tommy?"

"Alright, we will circle back to that. Okay, so from what I've heard Father John is holding firm with not pressing charges against Tommy, so he has that going for him. But as you know Judge Bridge is a tough one."

"Yeah. Had to meet him a few times, he's not very friendly."

Izzy chuckled. "Well, most judges aren't but anyways. It seems Tommy's big shot attorney has been doing a lot of digging. Jane, I don't know how your mom and dad managed to get this guy but he's good. It looks like Tommy will only face charges for a second offense DUI."

"What? How is that possible? I mean, that's good news for Tommy and certainly good for ma and pop who would undoubtedly be the ones paying his fines, but I'm confused." Jane said as she sat down.

"We all were but see when Tommy was 18 and was pulled over for his first DUI, he went to court on that."

"I remember,"

"Okay well it turns out Tommy's attorney at the time didn't inform him of the consequences of his plea. So, with that information Tommy's new attorney was able to get that charge dropped from the record."

Jane began to chew at her nails. "So, what happens from here?"

"Even though Judge Bridge can be an ass he only sentenced Tommy to 30 days in jail. Since he has already done most of that time, he will be released accordingly but will have to pay for the damages to the bar and his license will stay suspended for an additional two years. Given that Tommy has already been fined 6,000 for a second DUI in the past and paid it the judge only tacked on an additional 2,000."

"Good grief. Ma is gonna have his ass for this."

"I'm sure she will."

Jane sighed, "Thanks for keeping me in the loop Iz. I appreciate it."

"No problem, Janie. Now are you going to tell me about this mystery woman?" Izzy remarked with a chuckle. "What? You didn't think I was going to let that go that easily, did you?"

Jane laughed. "I was kinda hoping you would."

"So, tell me about her."

After all the time Jane and Izzy spent together, Jane knew when Izzy was mad. It was subtle things like the constant clicking of her pen or the rhythmic tapping she would do with her fingers. Both of which Izzy had done since the conversation started.

Jane took a deep breath. "Izzy, I don't want to get into this right now okay?"

"You say that like I'm upset or something."

"You are."

"No I'm not." Izzy retorted.

"Oh, so you're not clicking away on that pen. Or tapping your fingers on your desk?" Jane listened as the clicking and tapping abruptly stopped. "That's what I thought. Look, this is new for me alright and I would just like it to be me and her for a while before the whole damn world knows. Can you just respect that? Please?"

"I suppose I can do that but if your ma drags it out of me, I'm not responsible."

"Geez, lie to her or something."

"Me? Lie to your mom? Come on Jane, you know she will see right through that. It's like her superpower or something."

"Well figure something out. Okay? I just…."

"Relax Jane, I won't say anything."

"Thank you."

"Mmhm." Izzy said before sighing dramatically, making Jane roll her eyes and chuckle. "I'll let you get back to your date. But don't think this is over, I will know who this mystery woman is." Izzy remarked with a laugh.

"God you're worse than my mother sometimes."

Again Izzy laughed, "Have a good night, Jane. Oh, and call your mother for me okay? I have court early tomorrow and you know once she gets on the phone, she won't let me get off."

"Alright Iz, I'll call her. Thanks again."

"Don't mention it."

They said their goodbyes and Jane made her way back inside. She sat down next to Maura and sighed.

"Everything okay?" She asked, lacing her hand with Jane's.

Jane smiled and leaned over and kissed Maura softly. "It's going to be." She said before pulling Maura against her side and propping her feet on the table. "So what did you find for us to watch?"

"Well, I found this intriguing documentary," Maura was cut off by Jane's cell.

Lifting it, Jane groaned when her ma's name appeared. "I'm sorry."

"It's okay Jane, answer it. The show can wait."

Jane smiled appreciatively at the blonde. Deciding not to move she pulled Maura a little closer before answering and placing her mother on speaker.

"Hey ma."

"Jane Clementine Rizzoli!"

Maura smirked at Jane and mouthed, "Clementine?"

Jane just rolled her eyes. "What did I do this time?"

"When were you planning on telling me about the woman you're seeing?"

Jane's eyes went wide and so did Mauras. "Damn it. Izzy told you, didn't she? God, can I not have a private life?"

"Don't take that tone with me. Why am I the last to know these things?"

"God, would you stop ma? Look, like I told Izzy, this is new for me. I just want some time alone with Maura. Is that too much to ask for?"

"Maura?"

Crap Jane thought. How did her mother always do this? "Yes, ma, her name is Maura."

"Is she there? Hello Maura, I'm sorry for my daughter's manners. I raised her better than that."

Maura giggled, "Hello Mrs. Rizzoli. No need to apologize. Jane's manners are just fine."

Jane groaned, escaping to the ends of the earth wouldn't stop her mother from butting into her personal life.

"I hope she's treating you right. Jane, your feet better not be on the coffee table."

Jane's feet quickly hit the floor causing Maura to laugh. "Ma! C'mon! Did you call just to be nosy?"

"No, I called to see if you heard the news about Tommy. Isn't it great? He will be released soon and can come home."

"Yeah ma, I heard. It is good news but let's hope this turns things around for him. I don't know how you and pop afforded his attorney but I'm glad you did."

"We didn't pay for his attorney."

"What?"

"No, it must have been God looking down on us because Mr. Green just showed up to court to represent Tommy."

Jane noticed Maura trying to subtly remove herself from her arms. "He just appeared huh?"

"Yup."

Jane held Maura by the back of her shirt. "Ma, I'll call you back."

"Ja,"

Jane hung up and pulled Maura back into her arms. "Where are you sneaking off to?"

Maura laughed as she landed against Jane's chest. "I was just going to give you some privacy."

"Mhm," Jane remarked, "Maur, did you have something to do with Tommy getting that attorney?"

"I'm sorry. Please don't be upset."

Jane, slightly confused, made Maura sit up. She shifted her position and lifted Maura's head.

"Maur…."

"I know what you're going to say Jane. I'm sorry that I overstepped. I had no right."

"Babe…."

"I knew I shouldn't have delved into your family's personal affairs but I…."

Jane silenced Maura with her hand over her mouth.

"I'll take my hand away if you promise to stop talking and listen. Can you do that?"

"Mmhm," Maura mumbled with a nod.

"Sorry but you wouldn't let me get a word in." Jane said feeling a little guilty. "I was trying to tell you that I'm not upset."

"You're not?"

Jane shook her head. She had to wonder what kind of relationships Maura had been in before to feel like she needed to constantly apologize.

"I'm not upset because that's the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me or my family. Does my shit head brother deserve that kind of kindness, probably not but the fact that you did this, and you don't even know him means a lot to me."

Maura smiled and looked into Jane's eyes. It was at this moment she saw the sheer honesty and feelings that lay just beyond. It amazed her how someone could say so much without speaking a word. Her gaze, both delicate and sweet like swirling chocolate. Maura found the longer she looked the deeper she fell. This could be dangerous, she thought.

Jane kissed her softly before tossing her phone on the table and pulling her back into the position they were in before.

"Thank you." Jane said, when Maura's head came to rest on her chest.

"Anything for you." She replied and she meant it.

Something inside of her was shifting with each passing minute she spent with Jane. The walls she built to protect herself were beginning to crack but could she allow them to tumble and fall completely? That thought frightened her a bit but she would stop over thinking and just take it one day at a time.

Jane snuggled a little closer and grabbed the remote. "Now. What's this documentary you were talking about?"

Maura chuckled, "What about your mother?"

"What about her?"

"Aren't you supposed to call her back?" Maura felt Jane shrug.

"Nah, she'll be okay until tomorrow. The rest of tonight is ours."

Maura smiled as the documentary began to play.
