Hilda and The Last Hope

Hilda paid no attention to Alfur's words to what he had just said. Her full attention was currently on the sight she was witnessing when the gigantic turtle-like creature suddenly shifted its attention to them.

The shelled creature stared at the three of them. Hilda and Twig both backed away a few steps in fear feeling unsure if it was exactly like the winged monsters in nature, Alfur just looking on with awe, but not once did it make a move on them. It just continued to stare at them with what Hilda soon immediately could have sworn appeared to be...Concern? Was this mysterious giant here to protect them? It was the only thing that went through Hilda's mind for the moment.

More of the screeches were soon heard as the moment was interrupted. Upon its arrival, every single one of the bird-like monsters had taken notice of the turtle-like creature, it was as if they seemed to have recognized it given they were screeching at the massive turtle in animosity. The much smaller of the winged monstrosities and many of the larger ones took to the air flying towards their adversary in large swarms, the rest of the other monster birds both small and big of various sizes simply just watching on.

He reared his head back and began to take what seemed to be a deep breath until erupting from his jaws was a massive stream of what was fire, swaying his head to and fro, the turtle creature unleashed his mighty flames as most of the bird-like predators were burned alive killed immediately, their burnt crisp bodies soon falling from the sky landing in massive heeps, all falling to the ground dead burning until those that evaded death or watched on remained.

The monster-like birds still alive stood their ground as they began to converge on their adversary's position. Taking to the air, they made their move. Yellow energy began to form in their maws before spewing beams of energy. The shelled creature hunched over Hilda, Twig and Alfur protectively as the lasers struck his shell, sending a shower of sparks all over their surroundings. Standing back up to his full height, the tusked creature unleashed a trumpet-like roar. The bird-like predators responded back to him with their own screeches.

What soon came out from the turtle-like creature's jaws was entirely different, this time being a large ball of fire plasma soaring its way towards the surviving bird-like predators. Most of them had flown out of the way all but one as it was hit dead-on, immediately exploding, pieces of its body flying in every direction. The shelled creature fired out a few more volleys of his highly constructed balls of plasma fire, some missing but otherwise others hitting more of the bird monsters as their bodies were blown to smithereens.

Realizing this was their chance, Hilda, Twig, and Alfur decided it'd probably not be a good idea to stay in the crossfire during all of this, especially wanting to avoid being accidentally crushed by the massive feet of their supposed savior who was currently engaged in battle with the winged predators. Without any further thought, she and her loyal deerfox began to make a run for it again to find somewhere safe only to catch the attention of one of the predatory birds that saw them, its ravenous hunger-driven instincts taking over it too much to pass them up as a meal as it turned its attention towards them. Noticing, Hilda continued to run faster as much as she could, as did Twig. Alfur just watching as the bird-like monster trailed on them.

Once drawing closer, the bird-like predator got ready to devour them, Hilda turned her head to look and screamed which caught the attention of the turtle-like creature who expressed concern and worry. Immediately, he reacted slamming his weight against the monster bird sending it crashing into houses as rubble buried it. Another of them appeared only for the shelled creature to strike it with its hand sending it crashing into the one that was currently recovering that tried to eat Hilda, Twig and Alfur from the ordeal it endured, both screeching in frustration.

Before they could fully recover, the shelled creature came over proceeding to stomp on one of their heads leaving a splattering of blood, brains, and skull fragments everywhere, the last thing other saw was nothing but bright whiteness being engulfed as the gigantic turtle unleashed his plasma on it.

More and more of the ravenous bird-like monsters continued to come at the turtle creature. Stretching out its hand, it caught one of them as it tried to break itself free but it was no use for its adversary was too strong and with a twist of his wrist snapped its neck, its body going limp, any life left in it ceasing to exist. Dropping the corpse, the giant turtle gazed his emerald eyes down at the little girl and her furred four-legged friend wanting to make sure they were alright.

Thankfully they were and reacting just in the nick of time, two of the flying creatures came lunging at him. Reacting a second faster, the gigantic turtle had a new trick up its sleeve, a bone blade extended out from its elbow and with a quick swift sliced the winged predator in half, both their two halves falling on top of each other into a massive bloody heap.

The gigantic turtle bellowed out a war cry and charged forth into the swarms of monster birds proceeding to slice them apart one by one as their chopped up bodies fell to the ground into more massive bloody heaps. As she continued to watch with her loyal deerfox and elf friend, Hilda who was in awe couldn't help but admire this giant's bravery.

Another from above flew down and began clawing and scraping its talons against its head. The turtle giant grunted in annoyance before latching its jaws onto one of its feet, the bird monster screeched out in pain as its foot was bitten off, blood gushing profusely from the stump where its foot once belonged. It was in so much pain, that it had no time to react when the shelled creature having spat out the foot penetrated its hand right through its chest. Giving out one final painful screech, the predatory bird limped over its arm. It then tossed the dead corpse to the ground.

Hilda, Twig and Alfur continued to watch on as the massive turtle continued to casually kill off the very flying creatures with relative ease that had tried to devour them until one left close to them remained. Their supposed savior ready and prepared for its next move.

Looking again to make sure they were alright, the shelled giant stepped over them protectively putting one of his hands behind them, gesturing them to stay back. It was now fairly clear to Hilda that if she had any indication that this massive creature did come here to save them, she was certainly right. What seemed to have started off hopeless earlier, hope had indeed arrived.

It eyed the predatory bird-like monster that was approaching quickly. Drawing directly into its reach, the gigantic turtle-like creature pulled back its other arm and with all its tremendous strength struck so hard, the monster-like bird's face splattered into a bloody mess, its body being sent flying crashing to the ground, what was left of its entire face completely bloody and mangled.

Taken aback by this. It was fairly clear at this point the showcase of their adversary's strength and power was too much for the remaining monster-like birds to risk their lives in dying to try killing, a chance they didn't want to take especially since most of them had yet to develop their sonic beams which at the moment wouldn't be enough to take it on, for now though once they faced their adversary again, they would become more powerful and bigger through continuously feeding. Flapping their wings, they all gathered together in a massive swarm beginning haste way in an attempt to escape and fly away.

A chance they would never get as the shelled creature wouldn't let them get away this easily.

Watching as his nemesis' were taking the coward's way out and not wanting them to get away so that they don't continue to reproduce out of control. The turtle giant stood back up to its full height, reared its head back and began to what looked like it seemed to be sucking up air into its jaws. Hilda, Twig and Alfur watched looking up as this process continued for several seconds. Suddenly stopping clamping its jaws shut, fire began to form inside, smoke steaming out and sparks of flames crackling out from its teeth. Fire continued to build up within its mouth becoming less noticeable as the flames grew bigger inside. Then without warning, the tusked giant unleashed a powerful massive geyser of flames and fire erupting from its mouth stretching over the ruined city to the ocean where the fleeing bird-like predators were. Hilda going onto her knees hugged Twig for shelter as they felt the immense force of this happening, the powerful burst of energy being brushed against them and Alfur.

Before the predatory bird monsters knew it. They found themselves caught within the powerful flames as they gave out one final painful dying screech feeling themselves being boiled alive. Their flesh began to sizzle and bubbled everywhere all over their bodies, eyeballs popping like balloons until they were reduced to skeletons that within seconds were completely vaporized.

It took a little time for the entire surroundings to settle down but soon the flames in the air disappeared and no trace of the bird monsters was left. Seeing that the flying predators were vanquished, the shelled creature unleashed a trumpet-like roar of victory knowing there was less of them in this world and content that the little girl and her furred friend were now finally safe.

Speaking of which. That was what came to its mind and immediately went back to them gazing to see how they currently were doing grunting to them as if it were asking if they were alright.

Hilda and Twig watched their savior just bearing down on the two of them. Now that the whole situation of those monstrous birds was dealt with finally allowed the adventurous and wilderness-loving girl to finally let out her emotions.

It was just too much to just bear. Her house in the wilderness was gone, the mountains were gone, her life in the wilderness was gone and now...Her life here in Trolberg was gone too. Tontu was dead. Her mum was dead having given up her own life for her. The last normal moment they ever had was their argument. For all she knew, she, Twig and Alfur were probably the only survivors given the likelihood that both her best friends David and Frida were gone as well. Nearly everyone she knew was devoured by those...Those...Those...Horrid monsters!

Hilda broke down emotionally weeping, tears endlessly running down her cheeks. Twig came up to Hilda giving her all the comfort she needed.

The turtle-like creature watched on expressing extreme sadness and sorrow for the little girl he had rescued along with her furry friend. It wished it could've gotten here in time a lot sooner, not just for the little girl it saved but also for everyone here who had been devoured by his nemesis', unfortunately, despite the responsibility and duty of its role and great love for all living life, it knew how impossible it was to save every single living being, it broke its heart to see her this way, sobbing over all the loss she had just endured, more the reason it despised the very bird-like monsters he was meant to fight for the misery, loss, and grief they've caused to those. Closing its eyes, the shelled creature began recalling a time long ago having too experienced the loss of those close to it, more the reason it was able to empathize with her. Thinking about it for a few moments, it soon opened its eyes again before deciding on the next thing that it would do to hopefully help the little girl ease her emotional pain.

As Hilda continued to sob despite Twig doing his best to comfort her. That suddenly changed when suddenly she felt what appeared to be a slight breeze from the force of something gigantic, hearing something loud rearing down to her level.

Looking, she saw the very giant that had saved hers, Twig's, and Alfur's life crouching down, it's head down to her level staring at her, she could see it, there was a look of sadness in its eyes as well as...Sorrow and empathy? The gigantic turtle grunted a bellow of sadness at her as if it could relate to her and that everything was alright now.

Unable to contain her emotional turmoil anymore, Hilda bawled with all her life latched onto the giant creature's nose hugging it as she wept continuously. Twig and Alfur just watch on unsure what to do now but knowing everything would be alright now as this creature was a friend and ally. Alfur still couldn't help though but be amazed at the very creature before them, what he had thought was nothing but a myth was in fact real and now those creatures it had fought and defeated, it was starting to come back to him from the legends he had heard regarding this creature and that these flying creatures were also related to those myths and legends.

This continued to go on for several minutes, the giant creature just allowing Hilda to ease her emotional pain until she had finally gotten it out and that she was safe now. When suddenly this silence was interrupted by the shouting of someone.

"HILDA!" A familiar voice she knew called out.
