"Put your weapon down!" the soldier said, but Daryl didn't move. Hornsby looked at Caroline as he frowned and Caroline noticed the look in his eyes.

"I'll give you credit. That was one hell of a story. You're a really good liar," Lance said.

"No, I suck at it," Caroline said.

"She's right," Daryl agreed.

No one move when Carol, Pamela and Mercer walked in the room and Daryl turned Hornsby around to face them. Mercer removed the long blade knife from the holder as he cut off the head of the Walker then he looked at Daryl.

"Dixon, stand down," Mercer said.

Daryl didn't move.

"Please, don't kill him!" Pamela said.

"Daryl…," Carol said as she moved to him and Daryl frowned.

"What's going on?" he whispered.

"I made a deal for all of us. Let him go."

Daryl thought while Caroline felt the fury, anguish and uncertainty moving through her twin and they locked eyes. Hornsby wondered what they were doing as they had a silent conversation then Daryl lowered the knife, pushing Hornsby toward Mercer.

"Smart move," Mercer said.

Daryl glared at him while Mercer led Hornsby out of the room and the soldiers followed them. Pamela looked at Daryl as he saw the look of doubt in her eyes then she looked at the others.

"You are allowed to return to the Commonwealth," Pamela said. She and the rest of the soldiers left the room as Carol placed her left hand on Daryl's right upper arm and he looked at Carol.

"How did you know where we were?" Caroline asked.

"One of the soldiers reported in and told Mercer," Carol said.

"Still don't understand what you did," Maggie said.

"I'll explain on the way," she said then looked at Anne. "You must be Anne. Negan told me about you."

"He's alright?" Anne asked.

"Yeah."

They headed toward the entrance to the tunnel when Daryl placed his right hand up to stop them then he quickly looked into the hallway. Cautiously, they headed down the tunnel when he saw Mercer, Hornsby and three soldiers and Mercer nodded his head. Daryl fell in line behind them as Mercer led the way down the tunnel and Carol walked beside Daryl. They didn't look at each other, but he did lightly brush the fingers of her left hand with his fingers and she wrapped their fingers together.

Outside of the Commonwealth

Mercer allowed them to stop off at a storehouse as he led the soldiers and Hornsby to the jeeps waiting for them and Caroline had seen the look Pamela had given Hornsby.

"Whatever this deal is, he's screwed," Caroline thought then she went to stand with her brother. She listened to Carol explaining the deal as Daryl gave Carol an intense look and Caroline felt a mix of emotions coming from him.

"Daryl…," Carol said after the others agreed to the deal and he arched an eyebrow.

"Ok," he said with a nod then he picked an apple out of the barrel and Caroline followed him as he walked away. She had gotten an apple out of the barrel as well and she bit into the apple then wiped the juice off her chin. "What do you think?"

"About the deal?" Caroline asked and he nodded. "Sounds weird if you asked me.

"Yeah."

"Why do you think Milton wanted Hornsby alive?"

"He either has somethin' on her or…"

"No. Don't even go there!" she said after an image of Pamela and Hornsby as a couple moved through her mind and she waved her left hand in dismissal. They walked in silence as they ate the apple then tossed the cores behind them.

"Uh….," Daryl said as he tried to figure out what he wanted to ask her and he wiped his fingers on his jeans. "What you told Hornsby…"

"You mean about what happened to my old group and Benji?"

"Yeah."

"Daryl, you know what I was like back then."

"You didn't care if you lived or died because you didn't matter."

"Right. It took bein' with you and the others to make me finally realize and believe that I do matter," she said then looked down at her feet. He lightly nudged her as she looked at him and he arched his eyebrows up. "The thing which really bothers me is Sabastian. The idea of his mother allowin' him to still run around loose is terrifyin'."

Nodding, Daryl stopped walking while placing his hands in the pockets of his jeans and she walked back to him.

"What's wrong?" she asked.

"Just thinkin' about leavin'. Not sure if RJ and Judith would wanna go," he said.

"Do you wanna go?"

"A part of me does."

"But the other part likes the idea of them havin' somewhere where they can grow up without worryin' about havin' food to eat, a place to stay and not havin' to deal with Walkers."

"Yeah. I'm also worried that Milton might take 'em away from me."

"I don't think Carol would allow that. She knows how much they depend on you."

"And her."

"Wanna go ask her?" she asked. Nodding, he started walking as they headed back to the storehouse and Caroline felt the concern and worry coming from her twin. They arrived back at the storehouse when Daryl walked to Carol and she saw the worried look in his eyes.

"What's wrong?" Carol asked.

"I need to ask you somethin'," Daryl said.

"Go on."

"When you made the deal with Milton, did she say she was gonna take RJ and Judith from me?"

"No, she didn't mention them."

"Doesn't mean she won't do it to get back at me."

"Daryl, I wouldn't allow her to do that."

"That's what Caroline said."

Carol looked to see if anyone was watching when she hugged Daryl and he wrapped his arms around her. She felt his body tensing up as she rubbed his lower back and he placed his head against her head. They moved back as she gave him a small smile and he brushed some hair out of her face.

"Thanks," Daryl grumbled.

"For saving your ass again?" she asked.

"Yeah."

"You're welcome."

She reached up to placed her arms around his shoulders as he pulled her closer and she rubbed the back of his head with her right hand.

"Daryl! Carol! Jerry, Lydia, Elijah, Gracie and Judith are here!" Aaron called out and Carol stepped away from Daryl.

"Come on," she said and they headed for the storehouse.

Caroline helped Judith and Gracie load supplies into the cart which Aaron, Lydia, Elijah and Jerry were taking to see what had happened to Oceanside and Caroline noticed how cute Elijah and Lydia were together.

"He's her boyfriend," Gracie whispered and Caroline smiled.

"I think you're right," Caroline said. She watched Carol and Daryl saying goodbye to Lydia then Lydia headed for the cart and Caroline walked to her. "You be careful."

"I will," Lydia said, glancing at Elijah. She had told Caroline about her relationship with Henry, so Caroline knew she was a little shy about starting something with Elijah.

"One day at a time."

"What?"

"Take it one day at a time. Never know. You might end up with somethin' amazin'."

"Did you have something amazing?"

"Yeah," she said as memories of the man she loved moved through her head.

"What was he like?"

"Well, most of the time, he was funny, sweet and a little immature."

"What about the rest of the time."

"He was serious. Mostly when he and his brother had work to do."

"What did they do?"

"They took down bad guys."

"Like cops?"

"Somethin' like that."

"What happened to them?"

"Not really sure."

Lydia saw the sadness in her eyes as she nodded and Caroline sighed. They hugged as Lydia headed for the cart and Caroline turned to look at Daryl and Judith. She wasn't sure why, but she felt like something was wrong and she walked to Daryl after Judith walked away.

"Hey," Daryl said.

"What happened?" she asked as she looked at Judith talking to Gracie.

"I tried to give her this," he said as he showed her Rick's Colt Python.

"Why would you give her that?"

"It was Rick's gun."

"Why did you want her to have his gun?"

"It was time."

"What did she say?"

"She said no."

"But you wanted her to have it."

"Yeah."

"What happened?"

"She got a little smart with me. Had to tell her to knock it off."

"Oh boy."

Daryl looked at the gun as she felt the guilt coming from him and she rubbed his upper left arm.

"I shouldn't have done that," he said with a sigh.

"Yeah, you should've. Dad would have told us off if we had done that."

"He would?"

"Hell yeah."

Daryl placed the gun away as he looked at Judith and he lightly shook his head.

"She hates me," he said, softly.

"Are you kiddin' me!?"

"Sorry."

"We're good. Besides, you gotta remember that all this is gettin' to her, too."

"Yeah."

They watched Aaron, Jerry, Lydia and Elijah get into the cart when Jerry moved the reins and the horse started moving. Caroline went to help Maggie and Carol pack up the other cart while Daryl looked at Judith talking to Gracie and he felt a knot forming in his chest.

The Commonwealth

Pamela sat at her desk while she looked at the framed photograph of her, Sabastian and his older brother. She placed the frame face down on the desk when the door opened and Maxie walked in the room. Pamela wasn't sure, but she had a feeling Maxie was a part of what was going on and Pamela sat up straighter in the chair.

"Sorry to bother you, but she insisted on seeing you," Maxie said and Carol walked by her as she entered the room. Pamela saw the serious look on Carol's face as she nodded for Maxie to leave and Maxie closed the door behind her after she left the room.

"How may I help you?" Pamela asked while Carol stood in front of the desk.

"I need to know if you have any intention of taking Judith and RJ Grimes away from Daryl," Carol said, locking eyes with her. Pamela knew who RJ and Judith were as she frowned and her eyebrows arched down.

"Why would I do that?"

"To get even with him," Carol said through clenched teeth.

"Seeing how he cooperated, I have no need to "get even" with him."

Carol stayed silent when Pamela noticed the bead on her necklace and Pamela frowned.

"You did mention having children in your interview," Pamela said, but Carol kept a blank look on her face. "A son and a daughter."

"What about it?" she asked.

"Well, as a mother, you must know how much I care about what happens to my son and how grateful I am that you prevented any harm those fools who were after him might have done."

"What will you do with him?"

"Don't worry about that," Pamela said as she stood and walked around to the other side of the desk to stand in front of her. "Now, go tell Mister Dixon he still has custody of his niece and nephew."

Carol heard the unspoken threat in her voice as she nodded then she turned and left the room after opening the door. Pamela sat back in the chair as she sighed, looked at the frame lying face down on the desk and she lifted the frame. She looked at Sabastian smiling at her when Pamela slammed the frame down on the desk and small shards of glass spread across the desk.

The apartment

Caroline looked at the large envelopes sitting on the bed when she opened one of them and she sat on the bed. She looked at the plastic bag with the photographs inside and she opened the plastic bag. She looked through the photographs when she looked at the photograph of her and two young men and she sighed.

"Which one is it?" Daryl asked as he sat down next to her after moving the large envelopes away. He knew they had to pack, but he noticed the look on her face.

"Which one is what?" she asked with a confused look on her face.

"Which one's the one you pointed a gun at?"

"The one with the dark hair. The one with the light hair is his brother."

"When was this taken?"

"It was my…"

Daryl felt her shutting down and she looked at the photograph.

"It was yer birthday?" he asked and she nodded.

"Wasn't sure if I wanted to celebrate."

"That because it was yer first birthday without Dad?"

"Yeah."

"What did you do to celebrate?"

"We went out for pizza and a movie."

"Merle usually took me to a bar and we'd get drunk."

"Sounds like fun."

"Yeah."

He slid his right arm around her shoulders as she looked at the photograph then she moved her right index finger over the young man with the dark hair.

"Just so you know," she said as she leaned into him and Daryl looked at her. "I'll go with you if you wanna leave."

"Know that," Daryl said as he placed his head against hers. He looked over at her backpack when he noticed the wooden cross was missing and he frowned. "Where's yer cross?"

"The pull broke last night and the cross fell off."

"Where'd you put the cross?"

Caroline reached into her shirt when she removed a leather cord and the wooden cross was on the end of the leather cord. She slid the leather cord back under her shirt and Daryl stood. She watched him stretch his arms over his head then he left the room and she looked at the photograph. She stood as she slid the photograph into the inner pocket of her leather jacket then she slid the leather jacket on before leaving the room. Caroline stood in the middle of the room and Daryl walked out of his bedroom. She was surprised to see him wearing the leather vest with the wings on the back and she smiled. He gave her a look as he rolled his eyes then he noticed Judith was missing.

"Where's Judith?" Daryl asked as he looked at RJ.

"She's gone," RJ said as he read a comic book while sitting on the recliner.

"Where did she go?"

"She told me not to say."

Caroline frowned while Daryl and RJ talked then Daryl headed for the door, leaving the apartment. She walked to the chair when she knelt down on her haunches and RJ looked at her.

"Where is she?" Caroline asked as she gave her a stern look and RJ sighed, pressing his lips in a thin line.

Gabriel's church

Caroline quietly opened the door as she and RJ headed down the aisle and she scanned the chapel with her eyes. She could just hear Daryl and Judith talking as she stopped and she sat on one of the pews. She looked at the cross sitting on the alter when she remembered the church that she went to with the man she loved and his brother and she slid the leather cord out of her shirt. She held the wooden cross in her hands while she closed her eyes and started praying.

"Help me up," Daryl said a few minutes later as Caroline looked over at him and Judith sitting on the floor and Judith smiled, standing up. She watched Judith help Daryl off the floor as he made a tiny grunt and Caroline and RJ stood. He saw the look on his sister's face as she leaned on the top of the pew and he frowned. "Stop."

"I didn't say anythin'," Caroline said as she and RJ headed for them then she looked at Judith. "You good?"

"Yeah," Judith said with a nod.

"How's you know where she went?" Daryl asked.

"I told her," RJ said.

"Let's go."

They headed down the aisle as Caroline turned and looked at the cross. She sent a small prayer out for the man she loved and his brother then she went to catch up with Daryl and Judith.

They headed outside as Carol smiled after seeing Judith and Judith lowered her head.

"Sorry if I worried everyone," Judith said.

"Just glad you're ok," Carol said.

"How about we check out the Founder's Day Festival?" Caroline asked, looking at Daryl.

"We gotta pack," he said.

"Finished that before we came here."

Sighing, Daryl nodded and they headed for the main square. Daryl scanned the area when he noticed RJ and Judith looking at the cotton candy stand and he nodded his head. The kids ran off as Daryl looked at Carol and she had an upset look on her face.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

"A lot of our people want to stay," Carol said.

"Can't blame 'em," Caroline said when she saw people gathering around the wrestling ring at the center of the main square. "Wanna go watch the match?"

"Sure," Daryl said with a nod. The kids returned with the cotton candy on paper cones and they headed for the main square. Daryl wasn't sure, but something felt wrong and he made sure Carol, Caroline and the kids stayed close to him.

"I didn't know people still wrestled," Caroline said.

"I didn't either," Carol said.

"Reminds me of the fights the Governor at Woodbury had," Daryl said.

"When was that?" RJ asked.

"It was before you were born."

"What kind of fights did they have?" Judith asked.

"Guys would go into this ring and fight to the death."

"That doesn't sound good," Caroline said.

"Worse part was they had to fight while keepin' clear of the Walkers these guys had at the end of short chains."

"Whoa," RJ said with wide eyes.

Caroline felt like Daryl was not telling them everything, but she became distracted as Pamela, Mercer and Sabastian arrived. Caroline saw the look on her twin's face as Pamela and Sabastian sat down on the benches in the private viewing stand and the wrestling match began. Daryl saw the joy on Judith and RJ's faces as they watched the wrestling matches, but, like him, Caroline and Carol were watching the crowds.

"Is that Eugene?" Caroline whispered after she had looked up at the sound stage.

"I think so," Carol whispered.

"What is he doing up there?" Daryl whispered.

"I guess they asked him to," Caroline whispered.

After the wrestling matches were over, Pamela walked to the microphone and she welcomed them to Founder's Day. She then turned the microphone over to Sabastian and Daryl noticed how uncomfortable Sabastian looked.

"He's up to somethin'," Daryl whispered to Carol and Caroline and they nodded. Sabastian started his speech as red flags moved through Daryl and Daryl motioned for Carol and Caroline to take hold of the kids' hands. He then motioned for them to back up while Sabastian changed his speech and people started grumbling and looking at each other.

Caroline glanced at the sound stage when she noticed Eugene was doing something then Sabastian's voice echoed over the speakers. She noticed the reactions of the crowd and Pamela as Sabastian started to panic and the crowds headed for the private viewing stand.

"Move!" Daryl said as the crowds started attacking the soldiers and Carol, Caroline, RJ and Judith followed him. The crowds were thick as Carol held onto RJ's hand and Caroline followed Daryl when he lost track of Judith.

"Where is she!?" he asked as he scanned the crowds.

"I think she went that way," Caroline said as they ran down the sidewalk and Daryl dodged as someone ran by him.

"Shit."

"What?"

Caroline pointed to the Walkers heading down the sidewalk and she removed the knife from the holder on her right hip.

"Where did they come from?" Daryl grumbled.

"They look like some of the maintenance people," Caroline said.

They pushed by people as they attacked the Walkers and the bodies fell to the ground. Caroline kept close to her twin as they ran when they heard someone shouting Sabastian's name and she turned to look behind her.

"Judith!" made her turn back as she saw Judith on the ground and a male Walker was heading toward her. Caroline watched Daryl remove the Colt Python from the holster on his right hip as he took aim, fired and the back of the male Walker's head exploded. Caroline ran to Judith as she helped Judith to her feet and Judith hugged her.

"Are you ok?" Caroline asked.

"Yeah," Judith said.

"Let's go," Daryl said, looking at the crowds. They headed down the sidewalk while Daryl tried to find Carol and RJ and he saw them near the cookie stall. They started running toward her when a loud scream filled the air and Daryl turned to see a female Walker falling on top of Sabastian.

"Help me!" Sabastian screamed while he tried to keep the female Walker from biting him.

"Come on," Daryl said as they ran and Daryl was surprised that no one was trying to help Sabastian. Sabastian screamed as the female Walker bit him and Daryl reached for the Colt Python. He hadn't seen Judith take the gun from him as she took aim, fired and the female Walker's head exploded. The body fell to the ground while people gathered around and Daryl slid the gun out of Judith's hands.

"Damn," Caroline whispered, placing her hands on Judith's shoulders then Caroline looked at Daryl.

"Move," Daryl said as he pointed to the right and Caroline, Judith, Carol and RJ followed him.

"Did she…?" Carol asked as she held Judith's right hand and Daryl nodded.

"Why didn't they help him?" RJ asked.

"Dunno," Daryl said.

"Where did those Walkers come from?" Carol asked.

"I think they were some of the maintenance people," Caroline said.

"How did they end up as Walkers?"

"One that I saw looked like he had been shot."

"But why would they want to kill the maintenance workers?"

"It was a distraction," Daryl said.

"Or they were supposed to kill someone," Caroline said.

"Milton," Carol said.

"There are a lota people who would want to kill her."

"Not a much as Hornsby," Daryl said.

"We have to get out of here," Carol said.

"Why?" RJ asked.

Daryl looked at Carol when he realized what she was talking about and he sighed.

"No. We ain't runnin'," Daryl said.

"Daryl…."

"No way Milton's gonna think we had anythin' to do with this."

"You sure you want to take that chance?"

He saw the pleading look in her eyes as Daryl glanced at Caroline, but she was looking at the soldiers heading for the crowds.

"I think Carol's right. We gotta get outta here," Caroline said.

Daryl thought for a few seconds when he pressed his lips into a tight line and he flexed his fingers.

"Carol, take Judith and RJ to yer place and lock the door," Daryl said.

"What are you going to do?" Carol asked.

"Gonna find a way fer us to get out a here."

Nodding, Carol led RJ and Judith away while Daryl looked at his twin and they locked eyes. They had a silent conversation when Caroline nodded and they ran down the sidewalk.
