The door opened as they walked in the apartment and RJ headed for the couch. Carol led Judith to the kitchen table and Judith sat on the chair. Carol went to get Judith a glass of water then she walked to the table and placed the glass of water on table. She sat on the chair next to Judith while Judith looked at the glass of water and held the glass in her hands.

"I'm sorry," Judith said in a soft voice.

"You're sorry for killing the Walker who was attacking Sabastian?" Carol asked.

"No. I just…."

"You what?"

"I wanted… I wanted to save him. Like you and Uncle Daryl. Like Mom. Like…Dad and Carl. But I was too late. I failed him," she said as she looked at her hands. Carol moved the chair closer to Judith while trying to figure out what to say and Carol sighed.

"No, you didn't fail him. There were plenty people around who could have stopped that Walker from attacking him. They are the ones who failed," Carol said in a soft voice.

"Never wanted to ask, but who was the first Walker you killed?" Judith asked.

"It was my husband."

"Isn't Mister Ezekiel your husband?"

"He was, but I was married before he came along."

"Was he nice?"

"No, he wasn't nice. He liked to hurt me and…," Carol said as she held the bead from Sophia's hair tie in her hand.

"Uncle Daryl told me you had a little girl once. Did your husband hurt her, too?"

"Yes, he did."

"When did he become a Walker?"

"It was when I was living in my first camp. He had gotten bitten."

"Did you feel sorry afterwards?"

"No," she said with a shake of her head. The memory of hacking into Ed's corpse back at the quarry moved through her head and she remembered all the hate, anger and resentment she felt at the time returning. "But I have felt sorry about some others I had to kill."

"Were they Walkers, too?"

"No. But, sometimes, you have to…"

"You have to kill someone. Mom told me that."

"Why didn't those people want to help him?" RJ asked as he walked to the table and sat on the chair.

"Why didn't they help Sabastian? He wasn't a nice man," Carol said.

"I heard Uncle Daryl and Aunt Caroline talkin' about him. He made them do a bad thing or he was going to hurt me, Coco and Judith."

"Yes, he did."

"But that doesn't make it right. They should have helped him," Judith said, lowering her head.

"Yeah, they should've," made them look at the doorway and Daryl and Caroline walked in the room. Caroline closed the door then she patted the top of Dog's head after the dog had come to greet them and Daryl walked to the table, sitting on the chair across from Carol.

"What happened after we left?" Carol asked and Caroline leaned against the counter.

"People were runnin' all over the place in order to get away from the Walkers. Some people were attackin' the soldiers. The soldiers were threatin' to shoot 'em. Ran into Eugene at one point. Had to save him from a mob," Daryl said.

"Why would someone go after Eugene?"

"Turns out he was the one who pushed Sabastian into that Walker," Caroline explained.

"Why would he do that?"

"Eugene said Sabastian was chasin' Milton's assistant, Max," Daryl said.

"I think she was more than just her assistant," Caroline said with a small smile.

"Ok. She's Eugene's girlfriend."

"Hold on. Didn't Eugene say he was going off to look for someone named "Stephanie"?" Carol asked.

"Turns out Max is Stephanie," Caroline said.

"She's also Mercer's sister," Daryl added.

"Great," Carol said with a sigh. "Why was Sabastian chasing her?"

"Eugene asked Max help get evidence against Milton and her son."

"And she agreed to help him," Caroline said.

"So, what we heard was Sabastian talking to Max?" Carol asked.

"Yep."

"No wonder he was angry."

"Eugene said Sabastian caught her and he slammed into Sabastian in order to make him let Max go. What he didn't expect was for Sabastian to fall into that Walker," Daryl said.

"Then it was an accident."

"Right. But Governor Milton won't believe that he didn't do it on purpose after it comes out about Eugene and Max," Caroline explained.

"Where's Eugene now?" Judith asked.

"Somewhere safe. Gonna go check on him after dinner," Daryl said.

"Are you ok, Sweetie?" Caroline asked after she headed for the chair and knelt down next to Judith.

"Not really," Judith said, softly.

"She regrets not being able to save Sabastian from that Walker," Carol explained and Daryl saw the sadness in Judith's eyes. He felt a deep pain in his chest as he got up and Judith watched him walking to her chair. She stood as he carefully lifted her off the floor and hugged her. He lowered her to her feet as Judith sadly smiled up at him and Daryl lightly held onto her shoulders.

Later that night, Daryl walked in the apartment as he saw Caroline sitting on the recliner and she was reading a book.

"Whatcha readin'?" he asked after he closed the door and she looked at him.

"The Three Musketeers," she said and he patted the top of Dog's head.

"It any good?"

"Yeah."

"The kids in bed?"

"Yeah."

Daryl walked to the couch when he spread out on the cushions and Dog hopped up next to him. The dog got comfortable while Daryl softly laughed and ruffled the dog's neck.

The room became quiet while Caroline went back to reading her book and Daryl looked up at the ceiling.

"How'd things go with Eugene?" Caroline asked, glancing over at her brother.

"He's good. Doesn't wanna leave," Daryl said.

"Why not?"

"He won't leave without Max."

"I had to," she said and Daryl felt guilt, sadness and anger coming from his sister.

"Got somethin' to tell me?"

Caroline placed the bookmark she had found in the desk drawer between the pages she was on as she closed the book, placed the book on the floor, sat up slightly to cross her legs under her, sat down and he waited for her to talk.

"I never told you why he and his brother didn't go with me when I went to see Merle, did I?" she asked.

"No, you didn't."

"The reason why is because I told him not to come with me."

"Why'd you do that?"

"Like when I volunteered to stay behind so my old group could get away from those Walkers, I wanted to face this on my own. I didn't care what happened to me, but I did care what happened to them. They were the only family I had. Yeah, I had Dad, but he… He abandoned me."

"We both know why he did that."

"The thing is I had no idea if the man who contacted me was who he said he was or he was someone Jessie hired to kill me. If he was who he said he was, I guess I just wanted to have, dunno, some private time with him and my family before springin' those two on 'em. If he was sent by Jessie to kill me, I didn't want them to get hurt if they tried to stop him."

"Caroline…"

Caroline shook her head while memories of her final conversation with the man she loved filled her head and she could see the sadness and pain in his eyes.

"Go."

"But…."

"Please!"

"Hang on."

She remembered when he pulled the rosary out from under his shirt and she wondered what he was doing. She watched him remove the cross when he placed the cross in her hand and she frowned

"Ok, this is gonna sound like a part of our romance movie, but…"

"But this is where you want me to keep this with me as a good luck charm. That it will lead me back to you."

"Yeah."

"This ain't a movie."

"You're right. But I still want you t'keep it."

She could see him placing the cross on the zipper pull as the cross lightly swung back and forth then he held her face in his hands. The sunlight shimmered in his blue eyes and she saw the tears forming there.

"Now, jus' this once. Say it."

"I… I love you."

"I love you, too."

She remembered their last kiss then him running away, but she was startled from Daryl placing his hands on her shoulders. She pushed up to move her legs out as she stood and he pulled her into a hug. He started rocking her while Caroline started crying and Dog gently nudged her left leg. Sniffing, Caroline looked down at the dog when she patted Dog's head and she made a tiny grin.

"Wanna know what Eugene did when I told him he had to leave?" Daryl asked and she nodded her head. "He wanted to fight me."

"He wanted to what?!" she asked as she looked at him with wide eyes.

"He wanted to fight me. Even held up his dukes and called me "Hoss"."

"Are you kiddin' me?! This is Eugene we're talkin' about. He doesn't like to fight."

"Guess he found a reason to."

"Did he finally go with you?"

"Yeah. Took him to Gabe's church."

"Think he'll stay there?"

Before he could answer, Daryl heard Judith calling out for him and he moved away from Caroline. He half-ran into the bedroom Judith shared with RJ and Daryl flipped the switch to turn on the light. Dog had run to the bed as the dog hopped up onto the mattress and settled down next to Judith.

"What's wrong?" Daryl asked while he walked to the bed and Caroline saw RJ sitting up on his bed. She walked to RJ as she sat next to him and RJ snuggled against her.

"I… I thought I saw…. He was over there!" Judith said as she pointed to the window and Daryl walked to the window. He carefully looked outside, but didn't see anyone and he walked back to the bed.

"Who did you see?" he asked as he sat next to her and Judith snuggled against him. He felt a familiar sense of overprotectiveness moving through him and he slid his left arm around her shoulders.

"It was Sabastian. He looked like a Walker and he was trying to get in."

Daryl let Judith lean into him as she started crying and he wrapped his arms around her. Caroline went to get some tissues out of the box of tissues on top of the dresser and she walked to Judith's bed. She handed the tissues to Daryl and Daryl handed one of the tissues to Judith. Judith used the tissue to wipe her eyes and nose and Daryl rocked her.

"Sorry," Judith said with a sigh.

"You got nothin' to be sorry about," Daryl said and she looked at him.

"He's right," Caroline said as she walked to RJ's bed and she sat next to him. "And we want you to remember this. Neither Uncle Daryl or I would let him anywhere near you or RJ."

"And there's no way he can get up here. No fire escape," Daryl said with a small grin.

"And the door's locked," RJ said.

"Right."

Judith closed her eyes while she snuggled against Daryl and he rocked her. He felt her growing heavy against him as Judith fell back to sleep and Caroline looked at him. They had a silent conversation as he barely shook his head and she nodded.

"Will you stay until I fall asleep?" RJ asked and Caroline looked at him.

"I'm not goin' anywhere," she said and he snuggled against her. She felt him growing heavy against her as he drifted off to sleep and Caroline and Daryl placed one leg on the bed and they leaned against the wall.

The next day, they learned Eugene had surrendered to Mercer and Pamela has ordered Daryl, Carol and the others to be arrested.

Daryl steered the motorcycle down the street while Caroline held onto him and their crossbows were strapped onto the back of the motorcycle. They had gone on a supply run and had only found a few bottles of water and some cans of green beans, corn and beets. They went around the corner as Daryl stopped the motorcycle and Caroline looked over his left shoulder. She could feel the worry, fear and anger moving through her twin and she placed her hands on his shoulders.

"No," she whispered.

Three Commonwealth soldiers were exiting their apartment building with Judith and RJ between them while two more led Dog outside and the dog had a leather strap connected to a long pole around its neck and a leather strap connected to a long pole over its muzzle.

"No! Stop! You're hurting him!" Judith cried out while Dog tried to get free.

"Wouldn't have had to do this if he hadn't tried to bite me," the soldier said.

Caroline felt the rage building inside her twin while they watched the soldiers load Judith and RJ into a truck and the other soldiers loaded Dog in a cage. After closing and locking the cage, the soldiers loaded the cage into the truck then closed the back of the truck and the soldiers got into the truck. Caroline and Daryl watched the truck head down the street when Caroline saw some more soldiers and she tapped Daryl's back.

"Fuck," Daryl said and he steered the motorcycle down an alleyway. Caroline wondered where Daryl was going as anger moved through her and she gave Daryl a hug. He reached down to pat her left hand as he calmed down and he steered the motorcycle down another alleyway. They came out onto a street when they saw Mercer near one of the buildings and he pointed for them to go down the alleyway to their left. Daryl steered the motorcycle down the alleyway when he stopped the motorcycle, turned off the engine and he put the kickstand down.

"Do you think he's goin' to come alone?" Caroline asked.

"Dunno," Daryl said with a low growl.

"They're gonna be ok."

"We don't know that."

Caroline hushed him while Mercer walked closer and Daryl saw he was alone.

"What the hell are you two doing here?" Mercer asked.

"We're leavin'. Just need to get a few things," Daryl said then glared at him. "They took my kids and Dog."

The muscles in Mercer's jaw twitched and Caroline saw the angry look in his eyes.

"Where'd they take 'em?!"

"I don't know," Mercer said with a sigh. "Look. If you surrender…."

"We didn't do anythin'," Caroline said.

"You're friends with Eugene Porter."

Daryl glared at Mercer as Caroline frowned and she placed her hands on Daryl's shoulders.

"Just so you know. Things could be worse. You and the others could have pissed off the CRM," Mercer said.

"What the hell is the CRM?" Caroline asked.

"The Civic Republic Military. They are the armed forces of the Civil Republic. From what I hear, the Civic Republic is this highly-advanced authoritarian civilization that is rumored to be located in Philadelphia. They had the CRM, a research facility and some academy in New York."

"Sounds like you've had some experience with them before," Caroline said.

"The Governor has. And she made some sort of deal with them. We keep out of their way and they keep out of ours."

"Hmph," Daryl grumbled.

"Now, do me a favor and go. I'll find out where your kids and your dog have been taken and I'll go rescue them," Mercer said.

"You better."

Daryl started the engine as he moved the kickstand up and he steered the motorcycle down the alleyway. Mercer watched the motorcycle go around the corner as he sighed and lightly shook his head.

The motorcycle moved down the street when Daryl steered the motorcycle down an alleyway then stopped the motorcycle near a storage building. He turned off the engine and placed the kickstand down as they got off of the motorcycle and headed for the storage building. Daryl held up his right hand as he looked at the sliding, metal door and he pulled on the door. The sliding, metal door moved up enough for them to look inside, but they didn't hear any growling or grunting. Daryl and Caroline slid under the door as they looked at the shelves and they removed the knives from the holders on their belts. Daryl headed for the shelves on the right while Caroline headed for the shelves on the left and she checked the boxes for anything they needed.

"Find anything?" Daryl asked when he turned and saw two men heading toward him. Sighing, Daryl held his knives in both hands and Caroline moved to guard his back. The men walked closer as Daryl and Caroline went into defense positions and one of the men smiled.

"You sure you wanna do this?" the large man with the bald head asked.

Daryl and Caroline stayed silent as the men attacked and Daryl moved out of the way as the large man swung at him. Daryl swung his right fist as he slammed his fist into the large man's stomach and the large man slid backwards.

"Son of a bitch," the large man said when he charged at Daryl. Daryl dodged out of the way as the large man slammed into the shelf and a few empty boxes landed on top of the large man. Growling, the large man turned and ran at Daryl. Sighing, Daryl punched the large man in stomach again and the large man fell to his hands and knees. The large man vomited on the floor then got to his feet and growled. He charged at Daryl and Daryl landed on his back after the man landed on him. The large man tried to strangle him, but Daryl bent his right leg up and slammed his knee into the large man's crotch. "Shit."

Daryl pushed the large man off of him as Daryl got to his feet and the large man curled up into a ball.

"Give up?" Daryl asked with a small grin.

"No," the large man said and slowly got to his feet. Sighing, Daryl shook his head and went into a defense position. The large man took two steps then passed out from the pain and fell the to the floor. Daryl looked at him then at Caroline and he could feel the anger and frustration coming from his sister.

Caroline fought with the younger man as she kicked the gun out of his right hand then punched him in the stomach and he fell to his knees. Caroline quickly picked up the gun as she pointed the gun at him and the young man frowned.

"You gonna kill me or what?" he asked then snorted a breath of air. "Of course, you are. All of you are killers."

"Bullshit. What happened to the Governor's son was an accident. If he hadn't been chasin' after that woman, her boyfriend wouldn't have shoved him to make him let her go," Caroline explained.

"That's not what the Governor said. He murdered him in cold blood."

"And you want to kill us in cold blood. Nice."

Caroline heard a soft snorting sound coming from behind her, but she didn't look away and the young man could see Daryl kneeling down next to the large man. Daryl made sure the large man was still alive when he stood, walked over to Caroline and he looked at the young man.

"Where did Milton send my kids and my dog?" Daryl asked with a small growl.

"Have no idea," the young man said and Daryl punched him in the face. The young man fell unconscious to the floor as Caroline watched Daryl make sure the young man was alive then he looked over at the sliding, metal door.

"Let's go," Daryl grumbled and he picked up the gun the large man was carrying. They slid under the sliding, metal door when they saw Carol standing with her hands on her hips and she smiled at them.

"And here I thought you were in trouble," she teased.

"Who? Us?" Caroline asked with an innocent look on her face and Daryl snorted a laugh.

"Move," Daryl said and they headed down the alleyway.

"Pamela Milton is rounding everyone up," Carol said then she told them about how she was almost caught in the bakery.

"We know. They took Judith, RJ and Dog."

"Do you know where they took them?"

"No," Caroline said as she shook her head.

"We ran into Mercer. He told us he'd look into it," Daryl said.

"Are you sure we can trust him?" Carol asked.

"Max is his sister. She would never forgive him if anythin' happened to us," Caroline said.

"But there has to be some other way to find out where they are."

"We could try talkin' to Mercer again," Daryl said.

They stopped near the end of the building when he quickly looked around the corner, saw some soldiers walking closer and Daryl pointed for them to hide behind the dumpster. They ducked down while the soldiers walked by and Daryl checked to see if the coast was clear. They quickly headed down the sidewalk then ducked into another alleyway and stood against the wall.

"Hold on," Carol said and they looked at her. "I might know someone else who could help us find the kids and Dog."

"Who?" Caroline asked.

"I hate to say it, but I think we need to find Hornsby."

"He's probably dead," Daryl said.

"If Milton wanted him dead, she would have let you kill him."

"She's right," Caroline said.

"Then where do you think he is?" Daryl asked.

"She might have put him in holdin' area."

"Which means he'll be heavily guarded," Carol said.

"Yeah," Daryl said with a nod then he started walking down the sidewalk. Carol and Caroline looked at each other then went to catch up with him.

The holding area

Daryl looked around the corner when he saw two Commonwealth soldiers standing in front of the back entrance and he moved back, looking at Carol and Caroline.

"Can't go in that way," he said and Caroline looked up at the fire escape ladder.

"Gimme a leg up," she said and Daryl cupped his hands. She grabbed into his shoulders while he lifted her up and Caroline reached for the bottom rung of the fire escape ladder. She pulled herself up then started climbing the fire escape ladder to the first landing and she released the lever to lower the fire escape ladder. She watched Daryl lifted Carol up so she could reach the fire escape ladder and Carol climbed up fire escape ladder and she stood next to Caroline. They watched Daryl jump for the fire escape ladder then he started climbing and he stood next to them on the first landing. He saw the window as he tried to get the window open, but the window was locked. "Good thing I brought this."

Caroline removed a lockpicking kit she had found months ago as she unzipped the case, removed the glass cutter and she handed the lockpicking kit to Daryl. They watched her cut the glass then she tilted the glass out toward her and Carol placed the glass against the first landing railing. Daryl handed Caroline the lockpicking kit as she placed the glass cutter away and Daryl reach in to unlocked the window. He checked for signs of Walkers or guards then nodded and he opened the window. They climbed inside then looked down the hallway and Daryl signaled for them to follow him.
