WIDE SHOT
Lee enters the office with Amanda in toe. They are carrying boxes. They start unloading them and arranging items around the room.
Lee puts his signed Killabrew baseball on his desk and keeps his hand on it.
LEE
Amanda?
She turns to him and lifts her eyebrows at him.
AMANDA
Yes?
LEE
I think we need to talk.
He sits in his chair and motions for her to sit across the desk.
AMANDA
(sitting and frowning)
Yes, Lee?
He doesn't say anything but starts fiddling the baseball, throwing it in the air and then catching it. She pouts, seeing where this is going.
LEE
(puts the baseball back on the desk and licks his lips)
We need some guidelines here.
She raises her eyebrows at him.
Don't play dumb with me. You know what I mean.
AMANDA
Then why do you feel the need to talk about it?
LEE
(looks infuriated)
Maybe because I know you haven't heard a word I said.
She doesn't reply, infuriating some more.
See, this is exactly what I thought. You never listen!
AMANDA
(leaning back in her chair)
I heard you plenty.
He huffs.
LEE
And yet, you never do what I say.
AMANDA
I do what you say. Sometimes.
She shrugs.
When I see your point.
He glares at her.
She stands and rounds the desk. She sits on the edge of it and looks down at him.
I try to follow your orders. I do. I promise. But sometimes I need to follow my instincts.
She shrugs again.
And I know you don't like me saying it but it has helped you quite a few times already.
He sighs and takes her hand in his.
LEE
Amanda, I told you already I was grateful for that. I just…
He hesitates.
AMANDA
What?
LEE
I just don't want you to get killed.
He sighs again and combs his hands through his hair then looks up at her.
She tilts her head at him and gives him a tense smile.
AMANDA
Is that what's eating at you?
LEE
It's always eating at me, damn it.
She leans towards him and kisses his cheek. She gently rubs it with her thumb, removing the trace of lipstick she's left there.
AMANDA
(whispers)
I'm not going back to being a housewife, Lee. I know you secretly wish I would stay here at the agency and relay information to you.
He looks her in the eye. She sees she's guessed right.
It's not gonna happen, Lee. I'm your partner. I'm not letting anyone else watch your six.
She grins at him mischievously.
Which, by the way, is a very nice six.
She winks at him, grabs a few files from the desk and heads towards the vault. She looks over her shoulder as she reaches it. She sees she's taken him by surprise. She grins again.
See, I told you. I can still flirt pretty well when I want to. Care to give me a few more lessons of your own?
