PATIENCE

"He'll call."

"She's been missing for days, Phil. No word, no note…" I paced. Kitchen sink, fireplace mantel, front window, bedroom. Kitchen sink, fireplace mantel, front window, bedroom.

"Charlie will call as soon as he knows something."

"I should be there." I eyed my car keys.

"And do what? What if she's on her way here?"

"She's not. I know she's not." Kitchen sink, fireplace mantel, front window, bedroom.

He stopped me, soothing me with his hands on my face. "He'll call."

I nodded. I sat. I waited.

The phone rang.

"It's Charlie," he said. "Hello? She's home? Thank god!"
