Daniel's POV
I open my eyes slowly, warm wind blowing through my hair. Ugh we are still driving? I look around our new convertible; Max is playing with a Barbie. Mom is enjoying herself listening to California Girls. How can she be okay? Dad died two years ago… I guess mom noticed I was awake because she started talking.
"Hey Danny you okay?"
"I guess…" I say softly.
"Danny," She starts "Your father died two years ago. We are moving away to start a new life…Meet new people. I hope I can meet a new 'friend'."
"AND JUST FORGET ABOUT DAD?" I yell, that even causes Max to look up. "You were in love with him and now you're just going to act like you never happened…it's like you never cared about him."
That caused her to soften, she turned down the radio.
"Listen, I'm going through a lot of pain too, but I realized that if you fill your life with grief you can make the people around you miserable too." She says
"I guess, but mom I miss him. He didn't deserve to die; you guys should have listened to me about Ester…" I whispered the last part, because even her name made me fill with disgust and bring back unwanted memories.
"I did believe you Danny, believe me. It was your dad who wasn't listening."
Max tapped on my arm and asked me for cheese-its using sign language. I gave her some.
"Just…let's try to forget about Ester, Kay?" She says "like I said new town…new life." She sighs trying to forget what we were talking about.
I listen I guess it would make her happy. I rest my head on my hand and look at LA, my new city. There was a beach and a lot of people, then a skater listening to his iPod. A group of girls wearing bikinis and daisy dukes, my mom mentioned them once or twice. I saw a lot of other thing but we pulled into a large neighborhood. We are passing by huge houses; we finally pull into a big driveway. I wasn't surprised we did have a lot of money, but I looked to the house next to us it was kind of small. Then I saw this girl emerge from her house wearing not clean looking clothes and her hair covering her face. From what I could see she looked pretty, she glanced at me and smiled.
That's when I fell in love with my new neighbor…
