Recall: "…If I find that you are doing an exceptional job, I'll let you start your rehabilitation on one demon."
"Just one."
.
"How about the half breed." Kagome cringed at the term.
"Y-you mean Inuyasha."
"Yes, him."
.
"… Report back to me once a week. That will determine whether you may have you're class." Kagome smiled.
"Thank you so much, sir."
Chapter 8: A Very Long Week
.
After talking with the head doctor, Kagome made her way back to the 6th floor with the other demons. She felt a little more confident talking with him. Maybe he would actually listen to her and start actually trying to help these demons inside of punishing them. Kagome suddenly stopped walking. I have to be careful though. She thought to herself. The others told me what a horrible man he is. And they were very hostile towards him when he arrived. Not to mention Kikyo seemed scared of him. He might be the boss, but there was something unsettling if you have to be so frightened of someone.
Kagome walked past the double doors and back into the room. By this time, the demons were lunches so she went into the back office to grab one of the boxes that was made for her and make her was to the lunch room.
"That was quick." Kagome heard from behind, not needing to turn around to know it was Kikyo.
"Not much to say." She responded, grabbing her bento box and moving to walk out.
"Won't you have your lunch with me? There's much I'd like to talk about." Kagome looked at her in confusion. Kikyo enjoyed eating alone and even if she didn't, the last person she would want to spend time with was this cold person.
"Very well then." She sat down at once of the desks, Kikyo sitting down as well, opening her lunch.
"So, what were you two talking about?" She asked.
"Are you just going to talk about work?"
"Just curious." Kagome took a bit of a piece of meat.
"If you were meant to know, you would have been in the room." Kikyo tapped at her chopsticks a few times in annoyance.
"Well, you might have said a few things to the good doctor that are a cause for concern. I'm a little worried that there was something unnecessarily said."
"Or maybe you're just worried we were talking about you." The tapping was getting louder. Kagome smiled slight, irking Kikyo a little more. "Relax, we were talking about having a trial for me."
"Oh?"
"I'll be on level 4, I think it was, for the rest of next week. Then I'll be starting a class with one of the demons here."
"And when were you going to tell me this?"
"I just did."
"Will you act your age, please?" Kikyo sneered. "You need to think about other's situations and not your own selfishness. So I'm to be alone for an entire week with no help."
"You were hoping to have the place to yourself. I'm sure the week alone will be just like old times. Although, I'm sure the guys won't be too happy to know that I'll be gone for a while."
"And who is it that you'll be rehabilitating?" She asked, ignore Kagome's last comment.
"He wants me to try Inuyasha." Kikyo then dropped one of her chopsticks in shock. "I'm sorry, who?" She asked, walking over to the cabinet to retrieve another pair.
"Inuyasha."
"And why him?"
"Dr. Naraku named him."
"No, chose another, but not him."
"What? Why not?"
"The half demon is not as nice as you think he is. Once he gets close to you, he'll prey on your weakness and strike you when you least expect it."
"Somehow I find that hard to believe."
"Ya? Well believe this." Without warning, Kikyo pulled the top of her collar down, revealing a rather large clam mark scar on her chest. Kagome gasped at the sight. "I was trying to rehabilitate Inuyasha at one point as well. He did this to me as a result."
"I-I'm sure it was an accident."
"Why would you stick up for him about something you know nothing about?"
"Because I know that he's hurt. Probably been hurting for a long time. And he's in the minority because he's the only half demon on the 9th floor. And, I know firsthand how you can be."
Kikyo went to respond when she was cut off by the loud buzzer. Footsteps could be heard entering the room. Kagome rolled her eyes. Messing with Kikyo, she couldn't even finish her lunch. She went to dispose of her lunch before walking out to meet the others.
"Remember what I said." Kagome looked back. "It's best to choose another." Saying nothing, she left the office. Walking up to a few of them, she put on one of her big reassuring smiles.
"Hey guys."
"Kagome, what happened to you? Are you okay?" Koga asked, caressing her cheek a few times. Kagome blushed, backing away from his advances.
"Everything's okay, thanks for your concern."
"Are you in trouble?" Ginta asked.
"No, I'm not in trouble. In fact, I might be promoted."
"Promoted really?"
"Well, I'll not be around for a week."
"That's a promotion?" Hiten asked. Kagome laughed.
"Yes. I'll be on the other floors for a week. But it'll be over before you know it."
"Being with that crazy cunt, it'll feel longer." Hiten responded. "We got the cards out, let's go." The wolves raced to the lounge, leaving her and a certain half demon alone.
"So you're really leaving, huh wench?" She rolled her eyes.
"Just for a little while. Actually, when I come back, I'm supposed to be having a little session with you…alone." Inuyasha looked confused. It was like he was having déjà vu. He remembers something like this happening over 15 years ago, only with Kikyo.
"Why me?"
"Well, I don't know. But, he specifically mentioned you."
"Not doing it."
"It's only for a month." She whispered.
"A month!" He shouted, causing her to start shushing him. "The last thing I want to do is stare at you for an entire month, asking me stupid questions." She placed her hands on her hips, now starting to get annoyed with his attitude.
"I'm sorry, do you have anything better to do?"
"Maybe I do." She sighed. She knew it was going to be frustrating, but she didn't know he'd just down right refused. A sly smile soon graced her lips and she pouted her lips slightly.
"Oh well, I guess there's no forcing you into it. If you don't want to, I won't make you." Inuyasha huffed, crossing his arms smirking.
"Glad you see it my way."
"Maybe Koga would like to be rehabilitated." His smile dropped as he turned back to face her.
"What?"
"I'm just saying you're right, and that being with you for an entire month will be aggravating." She went to walk away when he stopped her.
"Y-ya, ya…but what's this about the wolf?"
"Well since you won't agree to do it, I'll get someone that will. Koga will do nicely, don't you think?"
"B-but that asshole doctor mentioned me 'specifically,' not that dumb ass wolf."
"I know, but since you're so against it, I guess you won't cooperate. Might as well get someone who at least will be happy to see me." Inuyasha growled. She was putting him a corner. He didn't want to reveal his secrets to her, at the same time, getting cuddly with that wolf was the last thing he wanted to be thinking about for over a month. "I guess I'll go find him." She went to move again, but Inuyasha grabbed her arms, exhaling heavily.
"Fine."
"What?"
"I'll do the fucking rehabilitation." Kagome's eyes sparkled with excitement as she jumped into his arms, hugging him tightly.
"Oh Inuyasha, thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you." The blush on Inuyasha's face increased, immediately pushing her off in embarrassment.
"Will you calm down?! Jeez, I'm not giving you my kidney." She couldn't stop smiling, which made his heart skip a beat.
"Sorry, just got a little carried away."
"A little?" They were silent.
"Well…I guess I'll run along then."
"I guess you should." She stuck out her tongue, before walking in the lounge. "Stupid wench."
~.*.~
It was Sunday night. It was close to dinner time so Kagome made her way to the cafeteria on the 6th floor. Usually, she would eat dinner alone, with the guys or with Kikyo by force. Since she was going to be spending a week with nurses she'd never met, it seemed like a good idea to introduce herself to them.
"This seat taken." The ladies looked up at her. For a second she was a little nervous. These girls could be exactly like Kikyo and she was just placing herself into another vortex of hate. However, she was pleased to see a smile on their faces.
"Not at all, please sit down." Kagome nodded, sitting next to the one with a high pony tail.
"I'm Sango, and this is Rin." She introduced. Rin seemed really giddy and happy while Sango was a little more chilled.
"New around here." Rin asked.
"Sort of. I've been working here for over a month on the 6th floor."
"Oh, Working with that Bossy Ice Box."
"Bossy Ice Box?" She questioned Rin.
"Kikyo." Sango answered. Kagome giggled.
"That's cute, but be fitting."
"RIN!" Someone screamed, causing her to jump in shock.
"What? What's wrong?"
"He's at it again." She scoffed rolling her eyes.
"Can't I have a break?! Excuse me, guys." She said, running out the cafeteria.
"What's that all about?"
"You'll get use to it. There's a demon she's been rehabilitating for months now. Each time they try to get one of the higher doctors to do research, he goes crazy. Rin's the only one that can calm him down."
"Wow. I wonder why that is?" Sango shrugged.
"I don't know. Something about her scent relaxes him. Which is baffling because he supposedly hates humans." Kagome nodded, taking another bite out of her meal. "So you work with the Ice Box. How's that working for you?"
"She's a nightmare." Sango laughed. "Seriously, she tries so hard to make other people miserable. I can't believe she still has a job."
"Oh trust me. Some of the nurses that are the assistance to the doctors are way worse. Years and years of experiments only for it to fail will turn anyone into an asshole."
"What exactly are the experiments?" She shrugged.
"I wish I knew." She leaned in closer to Kagome. "You seem trust-worthy so I'll tell you this. Most of the times why demons are here is strictly due to the prejudice of humans. Once they get close to you, there's a sense of loyalty, so they are way more truthful than these secretive doctors a nurses." Kagome nodded.
"Something told me that was the case, but I'm still new here."
"Trust me. You'll see after spending time with us instead of Ice Box."
"Hey Sango." Another greeted, seating down across the two.
"Hey Nazuna. This is Kagome, she's gonna be working with us for a little bit."
"Wait, you're Nazuna?" Kagome asked, remembering what Kikyo said about her and the other demons.
"Yes, have we met?"
"N-no, it's just I heard had a difficult time working on the top floor." Sango took a sip of her drink. Nazuna nodded slightly.
"I guess you can say that."
"So you had a problem with the guys."
"The guys?"
"Oh, the demons. I'm sorry
"No, they were perfectly fine. What made you think I had a problem with the demons?"
"Well, when I first arrived, Kikyo explained that you couldn't handle dealing with…"
"Kikyo." Nazuna interrupted.
"Ya, was she lying."
"The demons were like puppies, compared to Kikyo." Kagome and Sango giggled.
"So, you would have stayed then?" Sango asked.
"Absolutely, I mean I love you and Rin, but I probably would have stayed on floor 6. But, Kikyo was just so demanding, and vile. I mean, yes I was a little frightened by how harsh the demons were, but one of them." She smiled for a second. "I think his name was Hakkaku."
"Hakkaku? He's the blonde wolf demon that's part of the session."
"Ya, that's him."
"Getting buddy-buddy with one of the demons, Nazuna?" Sango asked.
"Relax, it's not even like that. He was such a nice guy, and he was trying to make me feel better, being it was my first. But then, I remember…"
"Rarely seeing any woman, I guess any of these demons would settle for the first fat doll rag they see."
"I don't know why, but I couldn't stop crying. You'd think I've never been insulted. Hakkaku came back to ask me what was wrong and I…I just couldn't look at him." Sango grabbed her hand, pouting.
"Wow, I didn't know."
"And of course she would lie and paint it like I couldn't handle my job. No, I can't handle the disrespect."
"I can relate."
"She hasn't…"
"She has. But, a few times I got her back."
"You have to tell us what you've done." Sango egged. Kagome smiled. The week might go by fast for her.
~.*.~
Annoyed
If anything, the half demon was downright annoyed. It's been less than 24 hours since Kagome went to the other floor and he was already feeling the pain. He hated admitting it to himself, but with her there, he was actually looking forward to something. Now that she wasn't there it was like back to square one. But since she'd be back by the end of the week, he was impatiently counting down. He looked at the time…
10:15
It wasn't even close to the end of the session, yet here it was, hoping it would be a little closer to seeing his fiery little nurse.
"Inuyasha." He looked up, hoping to see big beautiful brown eyes, he was met with cold, and bitter ones. "Is everything alright? You seem a bit fidgety." His scowl grew bigger as he huffed, moving to look away from her.
"Cheer up, half breed." Menomaru suddenly stated. "Kagome will be back before you know it." He growled.
"What makes you think I'm worried about that bitch?" He asked angrily.
"Besides, she belongs to me." Koga shouted out triumphantly.
"Like hell she does, wolf." Inuyasha stated, jumping from his seat.
"What we gonna fight for her?" He asked, standing as well.
"I ain't fighting for that bitch. She just doesn't belong to you." A sudden click of a gun, made Inuyasha's ears flicker. He knew what was pointing behind him, and the wolf glaring and sitting down confirmed it.
"None of the nurses belong to any of you." Kikyo stated as Inuyasha sat back down. "Have you forgotten where you all are? This is not a mixer. This is a rehabilitation facility."
"Then why don't you fix us, bitch?" Hiten spoke. Kikyo raised an eyebrow.
"I'm sorry."
"If anyone has been trying to rehabilitate us, it's been Kagome. Kagome's been the only one doing anything around here."
"I try talking to you all." She tried to defend.
"You only talk to boost your own ego." Menomaru said.
"Saying what we've done wrong, instead of the good we can do." Miroku added
"Not to mention you smell like you're dead." Koga mumbled.
"I think that's enough for today. Outside, all of you." Not feeling at all offended, the demons eagerly went outside to get some fresh air.
"Let's go." Miroku said, wrapping an arm around Inuyasha's neck. "A good game of ball will get your mind off that hot little nurse of ours." Inuyasha chuckled, pushing his meddling friend off.
"I ain't even worried about that bitch." Miroku gave him a sly look.
"Carefully, Inuyasha. I know what the term bitch means for you." He blushed.
"N-not like that, dummy." They went to head for the door when they were stopped by Kikyo, who had her hand up to stop him.
"Not you. I want a word with you." He gave Miroku the eye, who shrugged before going outside.
"Are you sure my lady?" One of the guards asked.
"Yes, attend to the others. I'll be fine." He nodded, the two guards leaving the two of them alone.
"Look what's this about, wench?"
"Is that any way to talk to me?" He was silent. "You know, there was a time you couldn't wait for my sessions."
"You mean before you betrayed me."
"You left me with no other option."
"Bull shit!" He shouted, kicking over a chair. Kikyo didn't flinch. "You lied to that fucking bastard, and you left me to be tortured for ten years straight. All awhile you were having fun advancing your career, going around the world being labeled a hero. Those fucking assholes told me everything while bashing my head in."
"Would it make any difference if I said, I'm sorry?"
"Not a chance in hell." She crossed her arms as he grabbed a chair to take a seat. "You didn't call me here just to tell me that, did you?"
"No, it's not." She exhaled, smoothing out her hair. "The head doctor has informed me that Kagome will be working with you after her trial at the end of the week."
"I know, what's you point?"
"You might think that she's someone you can trust, but she's just like all the other nurses at this facility. You shouldn't go opening yourself to her." He got up and went for the door.
"This is a waste of my time." Suddenly, he was grabbed and turned back around to face her.
"What time? Your time is my time." He sneered. "I'm serious Inuyasha. Think what you want of me, but if you think the same thing is not going to happen with her then you're a fool."
True, Kikyo might be a little jealous of Kagome spending time with what use to be her play thing, but the realty was Kagome was trying to move up, and potentially might take her job. Rehabilitating the demons didn't have any money in it. The last thing she needed was for Kagome to excel and destroy what took her years to accomplish. The only way she would accomplish this for the time being, is if Inuyasha were to open up fully to her. However, if he doesn't, her experiment would be labelled a fail, and she'd be demoted, or may even be fired.
"You're the fool if you think I'm going to let what happened to me twice."
"Then don't fall in love with her. You and I both know it's only a matter of time before she does the same thing." He looked shocked for a second. Would Kagome really be the type to become like Kikyo? Career driven, willing to lie and cheat to get what she wants? Kikyo nodded to the door. "Go now. I prefer not to look at you at the present."
"The feelings mutual." He sneered before walking away from her. She didn't know what she was talking about. Kagome wasn't like her. Even still, the last thing he wants is too feel betrayed again. It would be way safer to distrust Kagome all together, rather than to get hurt for a second time.

*Wow, can't believe I completely forgot about my other stories. My bad. Hopefully this gives you a little bit of an insight as far as how Kikyo is as a person.
What you think?
