Light shines into a small hotel room and onto the rooms only bed. A young man sits out off the bed, with his boxers and shirt on. He stands and looks out the window. He had wakened about half an hour ago, but he had spent more time thinking than anything. He looked back at the bed, where a beautiful blonde girl laid still asleep. He looked down at his arm, the aching markings having returned overnight.
"You just got laid, that's why you idiot." He mutters to himself. He chuckles and grabs his jeans to put them on.
He looks over to see the blonde girl stirring from her sleep. Walking over to lay next to her, he found it ironic how he was fully clothed and she was naked. She opened her eyes and smiled at him.
"You've obviously been awake a while Soul." She giggles, with Soul smiles and kisses her forehead.
"Was getting lonely without you." He teases. Soul touches her cheek softly with a blank look and sighs. "So what now? Are we-?" He asks emotionless.
"I… I guess." She says, a look in her face showing she wasn't one hundred percent sure. "I... I'll end it with Rein." She says, Soul nodding in reply.
Soul sits up and looks down at the bed sheets. He didn't know whether to jump up in down in joy or feel guilty.
"What is it?" She asks sitting up and placing a hand on his shoulder. He looks at the bit of marking showing under his t-shirts sleeve.
"Maka… I need to tell you something." He says avoiding her eyes.
"What?" Maka asks, squeezing hard on his shoulder. Soul looked into her eyes.
'I've got so little time. She needs to know… I have no choice.' He says in his head. "Maka… you need to know… I'm d-" He begins before Maka's cell phone on the dresser began to ring.
"Hold that thought." She says holding up her index finger, interrupting him. She slides out of bed and picks up the phone. "Hello? Tsubaki. What do you mean have I… slow down! What happ…." She says before her eyes widen and she almost drops the phone. "Oh… yeah… I'll be there…." She says ending the call and dropping the phone. "GOD DAMNIT WHY?!" She yells as she balls up and beginning to cry.
"Maka!" Soul calls as he rushes to her side. He wraps his arms around her naked body and holds her close. "What is it? What happened?" He asks, freaking out as she is.
"Blair… she's… been murdered…" Maka says teary eyed, making Soul tear and hug Maka's naked body even closer to his.
"Oh my…" Kid says, looking over the rubble of the destroyed bar. Investigators look over the destruction as Black*Star and Tsubaki look over themselves.
"God damn. What did this?" Star asks looking over.
"Blair… what monster would kill her? She was the kindest…" Tsubaki begins to ramble as she sinks her face into Star's chest. Black*Star looked over the damage as the cloaked Shinigami approached from behind.
"Me and Spirit believe this the work of a Kishin. As hard as it seems." Kid states, himself saddened at Blair's death.
"Kishin? There hasn't been a Kishin since we stopped Asura." Black*Star states, shocked.
"A Kishin must have somehow gotten through the barriers my father set up years ago. As long as they do that, they're free to destroy what they wish. Just want to know how." Kid grunts. Star's eyes widen and his look goes blank.
"Soul…" He mutters, to Kids curiosity.
"What about Soul?" Kid asks harshly. Tsubaki pushes a bit from Black*Star questioningly herself.
"I guess I have no choice but to tell…" Black*Star says, biting his lip.
Soul and Maka sit on a bus, heading to the next stop to get to the scene. Maka was resting her head on Soul's shoulder, still sniffling and dried tears streamed down her cheeks. Soul had cried himself, but had to hold them back to be strong for her. Just a day ago, he and Blair had talked for the last time, and just 24 hours later… she was gone.
"Soul…" Maka mutters.
"What is it?" He asks rubbing her shoulder, with his arm around her.
"I'm really going to miss her…" She mutters, sniffing back tears. Soul leans his head back. He remembered something she had said the other day before they parted.
"Soul. No matter how much you doubt about Maka, I'll bet you she'll love you as much as you do her until she dies as well."
That were some of the last things she ever said to him. He sighs and looks down at Maka, who rested her head on his shoulder.
"SCREAM KITTY CAT!"
His head throbbed for a second and he leaned over violently grabbing his head, pulling from Maka.
"DIE KITTY CAT!"
He whimpers to himself, his nails digging into his temples.
"SOUL… KILL… BLAIR!"
These words echoed violently through his head. He looks at his hands which were shaking. The markings were faintly there. . 'Oh god… did I lose it again? I haven't in almost a year… why Blair?' He yells in his head. Maka grabs him, her eyes and scared herself.
"Soul. What's wrong? Soul?!" She asks squeezing him hard. She hugged him and as if the second she did, the pain stopped. He leans back, again pulling from her.
"What the hell…?" Soul mutters, still shocked from what happened. He had seen some images in his head; blood being splashed in his face, and at the same time he imagined its taste, and shots of Blair… dying.
"Soul, are you ok? Driver! Stop at the hospital!" Maka yells at the bus driver. The two of them being the only ones on, he followed the command.
"No. It's fine. I'm good now. Promise." He sighed, grinning. He did feel no more pain. Maka looked at him with a concerned look.
"Soul, what's going on? First at the restaurant and just now-" Maka asks crazed before he grabs her shoulder.
"Maka, I promise I will tell you everything once we leave the crime scene. But right now, we need to go." Soul says sternly. "I promise I will. I really do need to anyway." He finishes.
Maka stares at him a moment, then looks at the bus driver.
"Never mind that sir! Its ok." She says. She nuzzles back into Soul's shoulder, sighing. "Soul… I love you…" She softly says. Soul kisses the top of her head.
"I love you too." He whispers, looking away to out the bus window.
'Blair… thank you. You crazy cat.' He thinks to himself. Cringing as he said those words, feeling he had no right to say that… for some reason…
Kid's head shoots up, eyes wide.
"He here?" Black*Star asks, waiting along side him.
"I sense the Kishin energy. It's him." Kid says nodding. Not far, they see Soul and Maka walking up together. "Remember, don't go easy. Friend or not." Kid says, cringing after giving the commands.
"Yes… sir." Star says nodding. He had told Tsubaki to not be around until after the situation was dealt with, knowing it would probably get ugly.
"Black*Star, Kid. Maka told me what happened. Where's-?" Soul asks approaching before Kid holds up a hand for him to halt.
"Soul Eater Evans, by order of I, The Lord of Death, I command you to halt. You are under arrest for the murder of the witch, Blair the Cat." Kid says coldly. "Take him in Star." He commands as Star nods and walks to Soul.
"What? This is a bunch of-!" Soul yells before Star grabs his arm.
"Soul, this can be easy, or hard. Please don't start something." Star says aloud. He looks at Soul and whispers. "Kid has snipers ready to take you out if you resist. Just go now, and you'll be heard. I promise."
Soul looks at Star for a moment, face in anger. He looks over at Maka, cringing then sighs.
"Better cuff me. I might be tempted." He mutters, head down. Star takes from his belt a pair of cuffs and cuffs Soul's hands together.
"Lets go." Star commands escorting Soul away. Maka steps forward to Kid, her arms buried in her chest.
"PLEASE KID! THIS HAS TO BE A MISTAKE! SOUL HAS AN ALIBI!" She yells, begging. Kid raises a brow curious.
"And what would that be?" He asks. Maka looks over at Soul and cringes.
"Soul was…" She begins before a voice yells.
"I WAS WATCHING T.V IN MY HOTEL ROOM. ALONE." Soul yells, face away from Kid or Maka. "WHATEVER MAKA SAYS IS A DEAD LIE. EVERYTHING." He says again, lowering his head.
"But… Soul…" Maka mutters.
"GO HOME TO YOUR PRINCE FREAKING CHARMING MAKA! YOU KNOW HE'S THE ONLY ONE WHO GIVES TEN CENTS ABOUT YOU." He yells again, turning to her in rage.
"What…?" Maka mutters wide-eyed, tears forming. Soul cringes. And yells something that makes everyone back up in shock.
"SHUT YOUR SLUT MOUTH! AND GO HOME TO YOUR DAMN BOYFRIEND!" He yells, foaming in anger. "SHES NOTHING BUT A LIAR KID! I SHOULD KNOW!" He yells, gasping for air. "Take me away Star." He mutters.
Maka stands in shock, unable to think. She wanted to cry, but she wanted to run over to him and kill him. She turned away from all three of them and ran, tears flowing. She stops and looks over to Soul, who had his head down with no emotion.
"WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? GO!" He shoots up, yelling at her with wide and angry eyes.
"Soul… I thought you… loved me…" Maka mutters softly, then coughs in tears as she runs off.
For a moment, the three men stand, in silence. Kid coughs, breaking the silence.
"Well… Star; take him away to the academy. I shall meet you there." Kid commands, disappearing in a flash.
"Yes sir." Star says, leading Soul away. "And that was for?" Star mutters, a little anger coming out of his voice.
"If I've really done what I think I have… I don't want her to know." Soul mutters, loosening up and being placed into the car.
Maka ran as hard as she could. Muttering every form of a curse she could about Soul. 'Hoe could he? Last night we were making love, today he renounced my existence.' She asked herself in her mind repeatedly. She finally made it to her house, kneeing the gate open and rushing to the door. She opened to see Rein staring at her in shock, tears in his eyes.
"Oh Maka." Rein says wide eyed and rushingly hugging her. "I was so worried. I got a call form the police about your friend, and you hadn't come home. I was so worried." He crazily says through his tears. "I was worried something happened to you too… that I almost lost you." He whispers.
'Why? Why do I have these two who care about me… who BOTH love me?' She questions herself. She brings her hands up to wrap her arms around Rein's waist, squeezing him.
"The rain was so bad, I stayed at a friends. I didn't think of calling. I'm sorry…" She mutters. Rein kisses her head and squeezes again.
"Its ok baby. I saw they had arrested someone, that Soul guy you knew. I knew he was no good." He says joyfully, pointing at the mug shot of Soul they showed on television. "They say he's a Kishin. And I thought you and your friends took them all out." He continues, Maka's eyes widening.
"Soul…" She mutters. "So you did…" She says, tearing up.
"Baby, are you-?" Rein begins, with a look of concern, to ask as Maka runs to their room.
"I need to be alone for a bit." She calls closing and locking the door. She pushes her back on the door and slides down, crying into her hands. "Soul… you freaking ass…" She cried into her hands. Was last night nothing more than an alibi for him? That after she fell asleep in his arms, he snuck out to… kill Blair? She stands and walks to her bed. She wanted to cry herself to sleep, and ironically, dream about her… and Soul.
Soul sat chained to a small wooden chair, in front of him Kid looked down from a stand. Black*Star stood at the door blade in hand, just in case.
"Ok, Soul… you claim you we're alone last night. Is there anything else you wish to tell me?" Kid asks, Soul scoffs and looks away.
"I'm the only near Kishin in this whole city… I can see Blair dying in my memories… just arrest me already. Send me to the gallows… I'LL CHOP MY OWN DAMN HEAD OFF TO SAVE YOU THE TROUBLE!" He yells with a stubborn face. He looks down, his long silver hair covering his face. "This only happened once before… I was attacked by some thugs when I was living on the streets… something came over me… it was like my sickness had taken over, but without the pain. I come to my senses to a dead guy almost gutted, and me holding his soul. I'm a ticking time bomb." He continues, to Kid's shocked expression, but he hides it with his authoritive face.
Black*Star tears looking at his best friend admit this in his shackles. It felt like yesterday, they were the one team at DWMA that almost controlled the school. He never thought this is how it was ending. He looks away beginning to softly cry. Kid notices and sighs.
"Soul Eater Evans… it is my authority as Lord Death… that I must sentence you to your punishment." Kid states, puffing his chest out.
"Good…" Soul mutters. 'At least I had one night with her…' he says in his head, almost bawling when the face Maka gave him as he was taken away appears in his head.
"You are hereby… banished from Death City. Never to return, nor will be asked to." Kid states head lowered at Soul. Soul looks up with a look of shock, almost mouthing why. "We cannot physically prove of your crime. But you are not a full Kishin yet." He says holding up a small computer chip. "Before you leave, this will be placed in your body. It's a chip that will alert us the moment you become a Kishin. When that happens, we shall send a Meister and weapon to execute you immediately. You will have a train ticket given to you. You will be given time to say goodbye to anyone you wish. And the moment that train pulls in you will get on, and never return." He finishes.
Soul looks at Kid. Almost wanting to yell he didn't deserve such mercy, that Kid should just bring in Liz or Patty and blow his brains clean out of his head.
"Black*Star, escort him to tech to have his chip implanted. Good luck Soul. With everything…" Kid states a final time as he once again vanishes into smoke. Black*Star grabbed his friend in his shackles, and escorted him out.
Maka walked outside, on the almost never-ending sidewalk. She had woken from a 2-hour sleep. Rein had gotten into the room and was sitting on the bed watching her as she awoke. He asked her about Soul, if he and her had ever been together. She lied; well not as much lied as admitted they had dated for a year before he left. Rein had made her lunch, but she didn't eat much, he wasn't all that hungry. After the small meal, she said she was going to take a walk to collect her thoughts. Rein just smiled and said he loved her, she replied with another, "I know", again to an almost saddened look on his face.
"Why does he care if I say it back?" She asks herself. "Already slept with the guy, and we freaking live together…" She mutters, those words making her think of Soul. "Damn… just clear your thoughts Maka… maybe the bookstore has that book you wanted to get. Yeah, reading will definitely clear your thoughts." She assures herself, now walking a little faster. She made it more into the central part of the city, where large crowds stood around the televisions that were displayed to the outside.
"So, banishment?"
"I know. Hasn't been a banishment in almost 100 years."
"Wasn't he part of the team that stopped Asura?"
"Yeah. Guess he went down that path too…"
Maka's eyes widen as she rushes through the crowd to get face front to the T.V and listens to the broadcast.
"You heard it here first. Reported Kishin Soul Eater Evans, who murdered a young waitress of the Chup Cabra's bar last night, has been sentenced to banishment for life by Lord Death. He will be sent off at 4 this afternoon to an undisclosed location. More as it becomes available." The reporter says, in the background DWMA with other press surrounding the building. And why not? This was the first time a kishin had been reported since Asura's demise.
"Soul…" Maka mutters. "Why…" She says barring her teeth. She pushes back out of the crowd and runs full speed to DWMA.
"Ugh…" Soul groans, taking two more of his pills. He was alone in his hotel room. The pain was now greater than it had been the last few days. Stein said it would happen if Soul was under stress… or if the sickness was finally taking over. Soul wasn't sure anymore.
They announced if anyone close to him wished to speak to him before they took him away, they could. Black*Star had come in first; Star hugged his longtime friend and was crying like a baby. He then begged Soul not to say a macho man like him didn't cry to which Soul agreed. Tsubaki entered with Star, she had wished him luck and gave him a kiss on the cheek. They announced they were officially having a child, a boy.
When they exited Liz and Patty came in. Patty gave him a small toy T-Rex, knowing he had liked them when he was a kid. Liz almost said nothing the whole time, but when she had hugged him goodbye, she whispered "At least its not me killing you. Take care tough guy." She then kissed his cheek and smiled at him as he shared on back. When they exited Soul waited a while, then Lord Death himself walked in.
Kid, who was wearing a newer suit, without his Death cloak, bowed to Soul, and forgave him on behalf of Death City. Though Soul was sentenced as a Kishin, for his years of service to the city, Kid gave him a small medal with a design of a death scythe on it. Soul accepted and hugged his highly OCD friend, to which Kid positioned Soul's jacket so it was neat. He then shook hands with Soul and departed. Soul had been waiting ever since, knowing there was no one left, until a knock came to the door.
"Come in." Soul called aloud, and his eyes widen to the person who entered.
"Hey… octopus head." Spirit said as he walked in, hands in pockets and sat in the chair across from Soul. Soul looked down, avoiding Spirit's eyes that were blocked by his seeing glasses. "So, finally became that rotten apple I knew you were huh?" Spirit asks tauntingly. Soul makes no reaction as Spirit sighs, knowing he failed the joke. "Listen Evans, I never agreed with Kid about this, never will. But, I'm just a teacher now, what am I? I guess when you told me you wanted to-" He mutters as Soul finally looks up at him.
"Maka and I at least made up before this. For a while anyway…" He says looking away.
"I knew about her… and her boyfriend." Spirit mutters, making Soul look back up at him.
"What?" Soul asks in anger. "You knew?"
"Yeah. I saw them together around town. She didn't see me of course. But I didn't like the guy. Looked like the guy who could get my little girl n trouble." He says, wiping the whitening red hair from his face. "I thought if she saw you again, she'd dump that sleaze bag for you. And then you said you wanted too actually… I just was happy. Cause I want you to know this, before they send you off Soul." Spirit says, almost forming a soft smile.
"Yeah?" Soul asks, curious as hell himself.
"You are the ONLY person I'd ever trust with my Maka. You earned it." Spirit says now really smiling. He stands and places a hand on Soul's shoulder. "Take care kid. See you around." He finishes as he walks out the door. And unbeknownst to Soul, Spirit cried like a two year old the moment he walked out.
Soul waited another half an hour. Only 10 minutes until he'd be escorted to the train station.
"She'll show up… she has to…" he says before the door opens.
"Come on. Lets go." The guard says, motioning him to hurry.
"I have someone else coming, she just hasn't.
"Cant wait any longer, the press will block the exit if we wait. Grab your stuff." The guard commands. Soul cringes with an angry look.
"Maka… I have to…" Soul mutters, to the guard's curiosity
Maka ran so hard; her calves were burning. She wanted to see him before they took him away. She knew now, she wasn't going to let Soul go again, she had been without him for 13 years, she didn't want him gone a second longer. She made it to the steps, reporters blocked her way. Maka tries to push in, begging the people to let her through. But they push her back, making her fall on her back.
"LET ME SEE HIM DAMN IT!" She yells charging into the crowd, but to no avail. "Soul… no…I'm too late…" She mutters.
"Maka… PSST… over here!" She hears from a bush nearby. She walks over slowly and looks over it before a pair of hands grabs her and pulls her in. She then feels her mouth be attacked by another's lips, to her surprise, Soul's. She kisses him back and pulls his jacket as she does so.
"How did you-?" She asks, pushing back from her love, with his hair covering his eyes.
"Simple… " He says with a grin. "But before I tell you…" He says lifting his head, showing 3 red glowing eyes. "We have to go catch a train…" He hisses, as Maka's eyes widen in fear.
"ALL ABOARD!" The conductor yelled as Soul walked down the stations walkway. Kid trusted Soul enough to let him go on his own, while they sent a decoy car that the press was following around the city. The people didn't even notice who he was, and it was a relief. He approached train 987, the train that would take him as far as California before he would get off. He looked around as he stepped on, hoping to see a girl with blonde pigtails running to him. But no… there was no such girl.
"Maka… goodbye…" He mutters, stepping onto the train.
As he walks down the car, he feels a pain in his head, not that of disease, but he sensed something… evil. Almost against his control, he looked out the nearest window and saw Maka, but with another man. He couldn't see the man for the hat that covered his eyes. The man moved his head up to show to Soul's anger and shock, three shining red eyes.
"MAKA!" Soul yells as he runs to get off the train. He pushes his way through the people to get to where he saw Maka and the man. The rage had taken over, the moment he got to where they were, he'd rip the man with three eyes in half.
He makes it to the spot and looks around, but no Maka or mystery man.
"Maka? MAKA!" He yells desperately trying to see her. "COME OUT WITH HER YOU SON OF A BITCH!" He yells, but could barely hear himself through the people walking and rushing to their trains. He punches the nearest pillar in rage. "Maka… I'm sorry…" He mutters.
"Soul…" A voice hisses from behind him.
"Bastard-!" Soul mutters as he begins to turn around.
"Don't turn. I have her Soul… and I will kill her if you face me." He hisses in joy.
"What do you want? Why are you-?" Soul mutters holding back his rage.
"You've got two choices Soul… show me how much you love this girl." He heard the voice chuckle. "Your train is about to leave, get on it and leave her for good… and I will kill her." The Kishin hisses again with another chuckle.
"You even try I swear I will-" Soul says before he feels a stab at his side.
"Don't interrupt me scum. Meet me in the courtyard of DWMA at 10 tonight, if you can avoid the police for those 6 hours. Don't show up, I kill her. Got it?" He asks. Soul shakes in anger, biting his lip hard.
"Ok… I understand." Soul mutters. The Kishin leans next to Soul's ear and whispers.
"Maybe we'll see who she truly loves then… Soul..." The Kishin cackles in the whisper. Soul listens and his eyes fill with rage.
"YOU…." He says in realization. "YOU SON OF A BITCH!" Soul yells turning with a swing of his fist. But the man disappears. Soul stands feeling the Black Blood taking control in his rage. He falls to his knees, shaking in pain and reaching into his bag. "Not now… not… now…" He says, instead of holding the pill bottle, holds the small black box. "Maka…" He mutters, looking up to see the train beginning to leave. "Gotta… save her… so I can… ask her… need to know…" He rambles, now shaking in anger, the pain starting to go as he squeezes the box in his hand. He stands with a look of determination. "You wont have her. No one hurts my friends… OR THE ONE I LOVE!" Soul yells holding his chest, feeling the stitches of his scar through his shirt, and begins to run towards the stations exit.
Train 987 departs, its one criminal passenger not on board.
