Summary: Seven years ago, Roy Mustang leaves his fiance Edward Elric at the altar, leaving a very devastated Ed to pick up the pieces. One day, however, Roy shows up in Ed's life once more to try and atone for his sins. Will Ed be open for reconciliation?

Seven years earlier...

"Are you excited, Ed?" Ed's brother, Al, asked excitedly as Ed straightened his tie and made sure-for the hundreth time-that his hair was right. He never could get that one strand to stay put, and his frustrated him to no end, especially on the biggest day of his life: his wedding to Roy Mustang.

"Yeah, Al, I keep tellin' you I am," Ed said, sounding a bit too irritable for his taste. He sighed, deciding to finally leave that one problematic strand alone. For now. "Sorry, Al. I'm just nervous. Big day, y'know?" He smiled weakly, despite the butterflies in his stomach fluttering mercilessly.

"Yeah, I get it," Al said understandingly. "I was just as nervous when I married Winry, remember?" Ah yes, that had been two years ago, and what a wedding that had been...

Ed laughed, savoring the memories. "Mhm, I remember you puking right after kissing the bride," he said, beaming.

"Haha, yeah, and if I can survive that with Win still loving me, surely that stupid hair strand won't ruin today, right, brother?" Al said encouragingly, placing a hand on his older brother's shoulder.

Ed felt himself relax. He was still nervous, of course, but now he didn't feel like passing out or anything.

"Thanks, Al. I think it's about time to head out there, isn't it?"

"Yep," Al said simply, before leading his brother to the chapel.

Ed wasn't particularly religious. In fact, he downright resented religion for a variety of reasons. Still, his mother would've wanted a church wedding, so a church wedding it is. He imagined Trisha quietly weeping as she watched her eldest son walk down the aisle towards the altar. If only she were here today...

His chest tightened and he had to push the thought from his mind before tears even reached his eyes. By the time he reached his destination, he was a bit misty-eyed. He turned and faced the audience. All of their mutual friends and family were there: Al and Winry (their children were too young for the ceremony and had been left with a babysitter), Van Hohenheim, Riza Hawkeye, Maes Hughes and Gracia Hughes (and little Elicia Hughes). Most everyone was there.

Everyone except...

"Where the hell is Roy?" Ed mouthed at Al, who merely shrugged in response. He sighed. Traffic could be insane sometimes.

After twenty minutes, however, Ed wasn't the only one who noticed his fiance's absence from his own wedding. Everyone was mumbling and looking around.

"Al! Text Roy, and see what's going on with Roy," Ed hissed, feeling awkward at the wedding altar on his own.

Al nodded and left the room.

Al was panicked. What the hell was Roy doing? How could he be late for his own wedding? Who does that?

He had left his phone in the nearby closet and when he took it out he noticed several missing calls and texts notifications, all from Roy.

"Roy?" Al said hesitantly, calling Roy back.

"Al, you finally got the messages," Roy said in relief.

"Where the hell are you? You're half an hour late for your own damn wedding!" Al scolded. "Ed's getting really worried..."

"Why didn't you pick up the phone sooner so I could explain the situation better?" Roy demanded.

"I was kinda helping my brother for his big day, y'know, the one you're supposedly a part of?"

He heard Roy sigh. "Listen, Al, I don't really know how to tell you this, but I'm not...I'm not coming."

Al didn't say anything for the longest time. His blood was frozen in cold anger. "You're...not...coming?" Al finally said slowly, with anger creeping into his voice, but also a touch bit of worry. What if a family member was sick? It was best to give the benefit of the doubt. "Why? Is someone hurt or sick? What happened?" he demanded.

Roy didn't answer, not at first. When he did, he had some regret and sadness is his voice, "I just can't...do it. I don't know why, but I can't..." Al thought he heard a sob. "I'm sorry, Alphonse. Tell Edward I'm most especially sorry."

Al wasn't a fighter; that was what Ed was for. He was the loud, always angry, one. Yet Alphonse, for the first time in his life, felt the inclination to strangle Roy Mustang. "You don't even have a reason," he said flatly. "You broke my brother's heart, and you don't even have a damn good reason for it."

"Al, I didn't want to hurt anyone-"

"Shut up," Al snapped, a bit too loudly for his taste. "You don't get to speak, not anymore. You hurt my brother, and what's worse, you can't be fucked to show up and tell him to his face like a damn coward. You know what, Roy Mustang? Fuck you. I never want to see your face around Risembool again."

After that, he hung up and angrily threw his phone at the wall, watching it as it shattered into a million pieces. God, how was he gonna tell Ed?

"Is anything wrong, Alphonse?" a voice said. He looked to see his father, who seemed very concerned.

"Yeah, Father..." And then he told Hohenheim about everything. Hohenheim's face grew sadder as he heard the news.

"Come on, son, we'll tell him everything..." He escorted his son back into the chapel.

Everyone was talking freely, speculating as to Roy's whereabouts. But Ed knew as soon as he saw his brother's face that something was very, very wrong.

Al watched his his brother's face fell and turned white as a ghost as he told him how Roy had essentially ditched him without an explanation. He saw Ed's golden eyes fill to the brim with tears, and he could practically hear his brother's heart shattter into a billion pieces.

After today, nothing would be the same. After today, Edward wouldn't be the same.
