Chapter 16.5

Scattered in rows of decorated tables sat the members of Fairy Tail, the guild hall was filled with a chorus of "Happy New Year's" and the sound of liquor being passed around, which was mostly drank by Cana. In the S-Class balcony stood a large, rectangular Lacrima screen-courtesy of Laxus. Looking around her, Lucy couldn't help but laugh at how rowdy the guild was; after all, this was the first year she was spending NewYear's in Fairy Tail.

"Laxus, isn't this great? Is everyone always this excited every New Year?" Looking at the blonde beauty in front of him, he couldn't help but smile. Shrugging nonchalantly, he leaned closer to her.

"Yeah, it's too noisy for my liking though" Placing on his sound pod, he relaxed back into his chair. He focused on Gray and Natsu who were busy devouring their own favourite food: Fire Whiskey and a partially frozen Ice-scream sundae. Lucy pouted and playfully punched Laxus' arm.

"You're not getting into the Fairy Tail spirit, Laxus! Don't be anti-social and take your sound pod of your ears" He shook his head, smiling at the same time. Is he trying to piss me off? Lucy thought to herself, sighing she relented and sank back in her chair. Changing her attention from Laxus to Erza, Lucy swore her breath had hitched in her throat. Piles of dirty plates stacked on top of each other were found on either side of the amour-clad mage, Erza placed another finished plate on her right hand-side then asked Mira for another round of the Strawberry cake.

"Ara, Ara. You should slow down with the cakes Erza, otherwise we're going to run out," Smiling sweetly, Mira took both stacks of plates and disappeared back into the kitchen.

"I'll stop eating the cakes for a week whenever Natsu and Gray kiss" Digging into another cake that was placed in front of her, Erza was soon lost in another world. Lucy shook her head, well, it isn't everyday you see Erza betting her cakes, she thought.

"Lucy, can I please get some help here?" A voice called out from inside the kitchen, stumbling from her seat and ducking under every hanging decoration, Lucy made her way towards the bar. The kitchen was a small room, some of the utensils hung on pegs in the wall, the stainless pots and pans were stacked on one another, a medium sized table stood at the far side, and there was barely enough room for 5 people in it.

"Yeah, sure. What do you need help with Lissana?" The white-haired mage was standing against the table, rapidly beating something in a bowl all the while trying not to lose grip of the whisk. "Lissana, are you ok?"

"Oh, yeah. I was just wondering if you knew how to cook," Lissana continued, focusing on beating the butter and the flour together, " Mira-nee's having a little chat with master, and she's left me all these order to do. I really don't know how to cook half of these, but hardly anyone else in the guild barely knows how to cook!" she explained her dilemma, clearly stressed.

"Don't worry, Lissana, I can take over from here. You can take orders from everyone" Lucy reassured. Lissana stopped all her efforts in baking and hugged her; making her way out the kitchen, she took off her pink apron and grabbed a small jot pad.

"Thanks Lucy! You really saved me there! I'll make sure Mira-nee gives you a treat! Ja'ne" Tying her hair in a perfect bun and placing an apron on she sighed, the small kitchen room wasn't the most spacious kitchen she'd ever been in, but she'd have to make do. She walked around the room trying to find all the ingredients for the cake and after a few minutes, had successfully found it in the top cupboard.

Mixing all the ingredients in the bowl, Lucy fingered the recipe book then added the remaining sugar. The room was getting increasingly warm and stuffy since the oven had been turned on, but being the experienced cook she was, she didn't mind the heat; it brought back some of the pleasant memories whenever her mother was still alive. Slowly, Lucy poured out the cake mix into 3 greased cake tins and popped them into the oven. She was no amateur whenever it came to cooking; her father had wanted her to become a suitable wife so he had made her take part in culinary classes.

She took off her oven mitts and stretched, "Shouldn't you be out in the main hall Lucy?" A tall, blonde figure was leaning in the doorway. His arms were folded over his chest and his eyebrow was raised. Laxus had to stop himself from going over to Lucy and kissing the hell out of her because right now, she looked good in an apron.

"Lissana needed help with the cooking so I took over, besides, shouldn't you be out there listening to your sound pod?" She raised a perfect brow, mimicking him.

" I was bored, there was no entertainment" Lucy smirked; she wiggled a wooden spoon topped with buttercream frosting in front of him.

" Natsu and Gray full already?" Laxus shrugged, he took the cookbook and examined it. He knew that if he were to try and cook any of these there would have been lots of people dead by the minute.

"I didn't know you can cook" Lucy smiled knowingly, she returned to mixing the icing while carefully adding the milk in. Beads of sweat started to appear on her forehead as she started mixing as fast as she could. She stopped after a few minutes, her breathing uneven. Strength and patience was her only downfall whenever it came to cooking.

"Yeah, my father made me take culinary lessons so I could be a 'good' wife" Chuckling, Laxus made his way towards her. He took the spatula in her hand and started mixing in Lucy's place, while preparing Natsu and Cana's orders she couldn't help but stare at him. The way his arms rippled with muscle and his hair bounced as he mixed, he looked hot. And he's all mine…

The buttercream frosting looked ready as Laxus finished, the frosting was perfect; it was white and fluffy-the exact consistency that was needed for piping. Running a finger through the mixture, Lucy licked the frosting off her finger. With a nod of her head she proceeded to stick a blob of the mixture into a piping bag and started swirling the bag in a circular motion above a cupcake. As she was focusing on the task at hand, he looked at her with a smile.

"Mind if I try?" At this Lucy brightened, she pushed the frosting into another piping bag and handed one to Laxus. Mimicking Lucy, he took on the same stance and started icing the cupcake in front of him. Distracted by a certain blonde dragonslayer, Laxus' cupcake ended up looking like a big fat blob of sugar. After a few tries and messy fingers, he had finally gotten the hang of it.

"Haha, no offence, but you're not very good at cooking are you?" Lucy wiped a stray bit of frosting on his nose and laughed. She'd never seen someone try so hard to ice some cupcakes, and a boy no less.

"No, not really. But that's what I have you for, my lovely wife" Blushing, Lucy went over to the oven to distract herself from the fact that he just said that. A wave of hot air greeted her as she opened the oven door, gently poking a whole in it using a toothpick; the stick came out stained, an indication that it wasn't cooked yet. Another 10 minutes and it should be done, she thought to herself.

"Lucy! Laxus! Hurry up, the countdown's happening!" Natsu screamed. She could already hear everyone beginning to chant down from 10, hurrying, she took of her apron and dashed out of the kitchen with Laxus in hand. Sitting down Lucy could see the many lightning lacrimas Laxus had placed in the sky; much like the ones from the Thunder Palace.

"Come on everyone! The countdown starts now!" Everyone placed their mugs of booze down on the table and looked up at the giant Lacrima Screen,

" 10…9…8…7…6…5…4…3…2…1…0"

Pulling Lucy into his arms, Laxus whispered in her ear, "Here's my surprise" She could scarcely hear his voice against everyone else shouting but nonetheless she looked up at the screen waiting for his surprise. Soon enough a large explosion rang throughout the alcohol-smelling hall, the night sky had been replaced by continues flashes of colourful fireworks. Soon, bright lights were embedded into the sky clearly spelling out: "I Love You Lucy, Happy New Year"

Tears brimmed her eyes as she hugged Laxus, "I love you, too. Happy new year, Laxus!" Without warning, he slammed his lips against hers and started kissing her; his hands crept up from her waist and up to her hair where he pulled her hair free from the hair bobble holding it in place. Running his hands through Lucy's hair, they both broke apart for some air, "Thank you." Coos of aww's and ahh's tore the air as they saw the scene in front of them, though the moment was soon over when Natsu punched the Lacrima Screen. A full-fledged guild battle had soon begun, as tables and chairs were thrown everywhere; even the hanging decorations were ripped right out of the walls and ceilings.

The battle continued on for 20 minutes- which was 10 minutes too long-smelling something burning, Natsu went towards the direction of the kitchen, only to be followed by a bruised Gray. An aroma of burnt bread wafted through the air as all the action stopped, much to Lucy's horror, she realised the cause of the burnt smell.

"Natsu! Gray! Wait! The cake is-" Lucy ran towards the direction of the kitchen only to be blown back, she was soon cut off by an explosion in the kitchen. A cacophony of deafening fire alarms and multiple explosions all happened one after the other. Smoke had slowly made its way towards the main hall-as well as it's close cousin, fire. Natsu hurriedly extinguished the fire, as everyone soon started coughing and hacking. I ran over towards them and accidentally bumped into Gray through all the smoke "Sorry, I didn't mean to bump into you Gray! I forgot there was…Eh?" As the smoke cleared, it revealed Natsu and Gray kissing. "Nani?"

"My precious Gray-sama! No!" cried a melting Juvia, soon enough-the guild was flooded with her tears.

"Ara, ara. It seems that Erza won't be eating cake for a while" Mira smiled gleefully. In a lone corner sat a crying Erza, her screams of agony still haunts the rest of Magnolia…

"Mira!"

Gomen ne minna, I kinda rushed it hehe. Anyway, I hoped you liked it! It was my first time writing in a 3rd person's view so I found it kinda hard…well really hard. Any tips on helping me improve will help me out a lot! Arigato! Hope you enjoyed it xx
