Kogoro had sat across from the female client. Ran had exited the room in order to make tea, leaving Conan without help. It was the first time that he hadn't even attempted to have an active role in the interrogation session with clientele. What was even weirder, she had never said her name.

Conan had jumped up to rest his arms on the back of the couch so he could see where she was. However, while he wanted to keep track of her, he did not want to make eye contact. He made sure to avert his gaze away from hers.

He sat in silence the whole time, his head bowed. When Ran had come back with the tea for everyone, she had become concerned when she also noticed the boy's strange quietness. Eventually, Kogoro became irritated, wondering why Conan wasn't saying anything, as well. He would never admit it aloud, but he actually found Conan useful, especially when it came to clues.

The sleeping detective raised an eyebrow. The Lady stopped mid-sentence, confused as to what caught the detective's attention. Once she saw that it was the young boy, she smirked.

"Oi, brat," Kogoro said. Conan didn't seem to react, but from what he could see, the child's eyes appeared to be glazed over. "Did you forget how to talk?"

Conan said nothing. It was then that Ran turned to the boy, eyebrows stitched together in worry. "Ne, Conan-kun, are you listening?"

His head jerked up. He looked like a deer caught in the headlights, his eyes wide in fear. However, it only lasted a second, as Conan's face relaxed again. His face was pale, a thin layer of sweat on his face.

"O-Oh, yeah." He gave a shaky smile, hopping off the back of the couch and made his way to the door. "If you don't mind, Ran-neechan, I think I'm going to go back upstairs."

Ran opened her mouth to say something, but before she could reply, Conan had already swung open the door. As he retreated upstairs, Inspector Megure and Takagi came into view from the doorway.

"Ah, Mouri-san," Inspector Megure greeted. He then eyed the client on the couch. "Sorry, I didn't realize that you were with a client. This is a bit urgent, however, so do you mind if I pull you aside for a moment?"

Kogoro narrowed his eyes at the portly officer, but otherwise went with him to the stairway outside, with Ran moving behind him and up the stairs. Shutting the door behind him, Kogoro leaned in close, raising his eyebrow for the second time that day.

He said, "Now, Megure-keibu, what was so important that you needed to interrupt my chat with a client?"

Inspector Megure gave him a look, but ultimately decided to get to the point. "Well, this might sound a little strange, but I'm afraid the woman you have in your office, Sasaki Hana, might've escaped prison recently." He sighed. "Now, we may be mistaken, but we are almost certain that is her. Do you mind if we take her with us?"

Just as Kogoro opened his mouth, a cry came out from behind him.

"Conan-kun!"

Kogoro swiveled around, on edge immediately at hearing his daughter's voice so distressed. Not a moment later did Ran come running down the stairs, stopping before her dad.

"Otou-san!" She bawled, tears forming in the corners of her eyes. "Otou-san, Conan-kun is gone!"

He was taken aback by it. Behind him, he heard a small gasp. "What? What do you mean?"

Ran shook him softly, explaining, "When I went upstairs to check on him, he wasn't there! He's gone, Otou-san! We have to find him!"

Ran dove past Kogoro, sprinting down the stairs. He ran after her, calling "Ran!". However, she was already too far away, and he cursed under his breath.

Inspector Megure approached the detective from behind. Without turning around, Kogoro said, "Shit. Look, you can take her. Right now, I have to go after Ran."

"Megure-keibu!" Takagi called out, running to the bottom of the stairs. Said man turned around, facing his junior.

"Bad news. Sasaki-san is gone." Takagi panted.

Conan threw open the door of the Kudo Mansion, breathing hard as he rested against the door.

He knew it was a stupid move, but no way in hell was he staying in the same building as her. While he didn't like lying to Ran in order to leave, it wasn't a complete fabrication. He really didn't feel well, but it was more of a general malaise than a sickness.

He let himself calm down, finding the time to think. What was she doing here? How had she found him? Did she really know that he was Kudo Shinichi, or was she just delusional because that's exactly who Conan looked like? Thinking of her made his head spin, and so he decided to make his way into the house.

Only did Conan snap out of his deep thoughts when he heard a knock at the door. His heart rate began to race again, eyes wide with fear and anticipation. Deciding not to stick around, Conan sprinted as quickly as he could to the library. While the room didn't have any windows he could escape from, it did have a second story. He could hide there until he was safe.

Just as he began climbing the ladder, he could hear the front door creek open from down the hall. When the footsteps started to follow, this only motivated Conan to pick up the pace and climb faster.

Wood creaked from downstairs, the gentle tap of soles echoing through the halls. Through the slits of the railing, Conan could see the Lady enter the large room, a murderous intent in her eyes. Being so focus on not hyperventilating, he almost didn't notice the object she held in her hand.

'Oh no,' Conan shut his eyes, trying to back up as far as he could. 'Where did she get a knife from?'

The Lady looked around, studying every nook and cranny with only her eyes. It almost appeared like she could see everything.

She hung around the room for a pretty long time, and for a moment Conan had assumed that she knew he was in here. However, her face contorted. She snatched the nearest book off the shelf, then angrily stomped out the library. Conan waited until he heard another door open, and then waited until it was completely quiet, before climbing down the ladder.

'She's gone for now,' The shrunken detective thought, a grim expression planting itself on his face. 'But, who knows when she'll be back. I better get out of here while the getting's good.'

Conan went out into the hall, looking around before making a straight shot towards the doors. He had expected something a bit more, knowing that this was a reckless move and that she could very well still be in the house. However, as long as she wasn't in the immediate area, he could probably escape pretty easily.

Just as Conan made his way to the door, a terrible pain covered the back of his head. He yelped, clutching his head as he kneeled to the ground. A few feet away, a book landed, opening to a random page. The spine covered a a small patch of crimson.

"W-What was that...?" He mumbled, attempting to stay both upright and awake. Blood weaved through his fingers, dripping down his face and staining the floor below him.

A shadow appeared behind him, and Conan was kicked over, slamming into the wooden door. His vision was going in and out, but he did catch a look at the deranged smile that painted The Lady's face. She stroked her knife, which twinkled under the lights.

"Sleep now, little detective..." She spoke, raising the blade up a little higher.

Conan's eyes began to droop, and his body grew limp. One final thought crossed his mind before his world went black.

'I knew this was a mistake.'

A/N: And that's chapter three! As any of the original readers can see, I changed a lot of things about this chapter, especially Conan's capture. Sorry if anything is a bit OOC. I wanted to try and finish this as quick as possible, so some of the actions may seem rushed and unlikely from some of the characters.

I'm so glad this part is done! As soon as I finish chapter four and five, I can start adding more to the story! Then, that's when the action will really begin...

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter, and I can't wait to see you guys next time! Goodbye~!
