Lucas: Oh. This chapter, Calem has his Gym Battle against best friend Serena and new friend Korrina.

Journal Entry 6: Fight Power!

Calem and Serena look up at Korrina, who dashes forward to the gym. "Serena, you can go first."

"Oh, okay." Serena nods to him before saying, "Thanks Calem," and kissing him on the cheek. She then dashes off after Korrina.

Korrina looks back with a scowl at the kiss she gave him. 'That woman...'

The two girls continue towards the gym, with Serena saying, "So, I guess you're a strong trainer..."

"That's right," she replies, sounding rather cold.

"Good." The silence between them grows, even as they near the Shalour Gym.

Calem meanwhile heads to the Pokemon Center. "While those two are facing eachother I'll prepare my Pokemon to get ready."

After a few minutes of thinking, Calem's team now becomes Nanami, Yaoki, Acno, Garo and Pikachu. Garo is a Ghost type so he's more of a secret weapon. Though the more he thinks about it, he doesn't really know which Pokemon she'll have. The Lucario she carries may be a clue though.

Putting his worries aside, he skates over towards the Shalour City Gym. Inside he sees everyone watching the battle going on. Pushing through, he spots the two Pokemon going at it. Taking out his Pokedex he scans the one Pokemon he doesn't recognize.

Hawlucha, the Wrestling Pokemon - Despite its small size, it possesses enough fighting strength to handle opponents like Machamp and Hariyama.

"Flying Press!" Hawlucha takes to the skies, falling down in a flying press move.

"Sky Uppercut!" Combusken makes a mighty jump throwing a powerful uppercut.

The attacks collide in an explosion of power. Both Pokemon come out from the explosion landing back to back. They turn around to face one another in a stare off, until Hawlucha grins and falls backwards. Defeated, Korrina's mouth opens in shock.

"Hawlucha!"

"Way to go, Combusken!" Serena says to her Pokemon. Combusken throws a fist up in triumph, before to her surprise the Pokemon glows.

Calem, Korrina and everyone else watching the battle sees the transformation. The Pokemon comes out from the light as the blazing red Blaziken.

Blaziken, the Blaze Pokemon - Blaziken have powerful legs capable of lifting them over 30 stories. Over the years they molt their feathers and grow new ones in fire.

"Combusken evolved. I guess this will be a fun match," Calem says to himself before walking away.

"My god... Blaziken evolved! That's so amazing!" Serena reaches out and hugs her Pokemon tightly.

"Well Serena, I guess you really did earn this." Korrina walks forward giving the Y protagonist her badge. "You get the Rumble Badge."

"Thank you Korrina." She takes it and pockets the item, before grinning. "Now, I need to ask; how do you know Calem?"

"I met him a couple of times. He's kind of awkward, but in a cute way," she says with a bit of redness on her face. Said tomato aspect angers Serena, which the gym leader obviously notices. "Oh, do you like him?"

"WHAT?!" She waves her hands rapidly at the accusation. "O-Of course not! I mean yeah, I like him! But we're childhood friends! He's more like a brother! No, a son! No-No! A PET! Yeah, that's right; he's a little Riolu to me!"

'Is she tsundere or just in total denial? Regardless, that's just cruel...' Korrina takes a hand and waves off her response. "So then you wouldn't mind if-"

"YES, I DO MIND!" she practically screams. "How can I be sure if you're good for him if you just met him?"

"How can you be when you're hiding something from him?" Korrina tells her, bringing a shock to her eyes. "He is too, but with the sadness I can tell it's no wonder."

Serena looks down at her chest, placing a hand over her heart. "How do you know that?"

"Because I have my own secret, and before anything more happens to him I want him to know. I suggest you do the same."

She looks over at the crowd trying to avoid her, until seeing Calem watching in the back. She then says to Korrina, "No, you can't let him find out! It's..."

"It's what?"

"It's why I can't be with him." She then steps aside, holding her face as tears threaten to leave.

Korrina gasps when she sees something, before backing away. "Serena..."

"Korrina, since you know this much I'll tell you later. But, only in private." Serena takes a step away from her walking off the battlefield. She passes by Calem; blue eyes trace her tracks.

'What was that about?' Calem turns away from her as she finishes, before stepping forward. "Korrina."

"Calem." Korrina holds a hand over outside. "I'm going to heal my Pokemon. Then we can face one another to our full potential."

"Gotcha," he replies, allowing her to go by. He then follows after her peacefully, on one hand thinking about his friends while the other worries about the battle he would partake in.

After reaching the center and Korrina heals her Pokemon, she leads Calem to the beach outside the Tower of Mastery. The skies have grown darker. The wind howls behind the Gym Leader/Successor to Mega Evolution.

"Calem, as you know I'm the Gym Leader and by customs I have to give an introduction," she says while moving her hair away. "But, as I know you're a strong trainer I won't need to waste time. This is not just a gym battle, but a battle to determine your capabilities as a user of Mega Evolution. If Serena can defeat me without either of us using it then this will be even greater."

"You got it. I hope with this, I can also understand you more." They both take out Pokeballs.

"This will be a 3 on 3 Single Battle. The leader will not be able to switch out Pokemon, but you are allowed to. Let us begin!" Korrina sends out her first Pokemon, Mienfoo.

"Then, I choose you!" He sends out Pikachu, who releases sparks from his cheeks. "Pikachu, Quick Attack!"

"Mienfoo, Detect!" Mienfoo dodges gracefully, causing the mouse to slide along the sand. "Jump Kick!"

"Slam!" Pikachu counters the enemy using his tail, but gets thrown back. The weasel then rushes in.

"Drain Punch!" Mienfoo then strikes Pikachu in the face.

As the mouse rolls back, Calem notices a spark coming off of Mienfoo. 'He's taken a hit.' "Electro Ball!"

"Drain Punch!" Mienfoo prepares his attack, but falls to the knees after being electrocuted. "What?!"

"Pikachu has the Static ability; physical attacks paralyze anything that touches him. Now go!" Pikachu sends the ball forward, blasting Mienfoo into the ground.

'What a good combo.' Korrina grins seeing his combination.

"Slam!" Pikachu flips and slams his tail on top of Mienfoo's head, but he catches it at the last second. "Thunderbolt!"

The tail conducts one hundred thousand volts of electricity that shocks Mienfoo, sending him back to the ground painfully. Mienfoo faints.

"It seems Mienfoo can't battle anymore..." Korrina reluctantly retrieves her Pokemon, and focuses on Calem even as she sends out the next Pokemon Machoke. 'He has a handle on Pokemon abilities already. This will be fun.'

"Pikachu, return!" Calem retreives his Pokemon before sending out another. "Yaoki, Quick Attack!"

The Fletchinder flies at top speed towards Machoke. "Grab it!" Machoke blocks the wings by grabbing them, grinning proudly. "Now, toss it!"

Machoke tosses the Pokemon. "Karate Chop!"

Machoke then rushes in and strikes the bird. Yaoki hits the ground with a crash. "Cross Chop!"

"Ember!" Yaoki fires off several balls of flames to blast Machoke, taking him off guard. "Flame Charge!"

"Dynamic Punch!" Machoke holds back a fist, before colliding an explosive punch that Yaoki successfully blocks. The bird then comes out before him.

"Peck!" Yaoki pokes Machoke twice in the face before flying away.

"Focus Blast!" Machoke steps back, charging a sphere of energy together.

"Aerial Ace!" The muscular Pokemon then fires, just as Yaoki flies in. She spirals around it and strikes Machoke in the chest, knocking the Pokemon down backwards.

Machoke picks himself back up, before falling backwards fainting.

"That ends that... Sorry, Machoke," says Korrina as she retrieves her fallen Pokemon. "It seems this was destined to happen. This will actually be the first time I use Lucario in a gym battle."

'I figured as much...' Calem tenses up as he awaits her star Pokemon to appear.

"Hit the stage, Lucario!" She sends out her Pokemon, the blue anubis landing with ease on the water. "Now, transcend all before! Mega Evolution!"

Korrina holds up her ring, the orb on it glowing brightly. Lucario resonates with it, a sphere of energy forming around him. The shell shatters, revealing Mega Lucario.

'So, that's Mega Evolution...' Calem takes out his Pokedex scanning. 'It doesn't show the new stat increase... Then, we'll have to work hard.' "Yaoki, Ember!"

"Force Palm!" Lucario blows away the flames using aura, enhanced so strongly it blows away Yaoki mid air.

'It expanded that far?!' "Flame Charge!" The bird ignites on fire, before flying in to crash into Lucario.

"Power Up Punch!" Lucario makes a single step forward, before punching straight at the bird. An explosion resounds, and Yaoki falls backwards in pain. Lucario swipes away the flames on his person.

'Dang...' Calem retrieves his Pokemon before sending out Pikachu. 'The flames did considerable damage, so I'll have to bet on that and Pikachu's speed.' "Quick Attack!"

Pikachu rushes forward, but Lucario blocks the strike. "Now, Thunderbolt!"

"Counter with Aura Sphere!" Lightning clashes with the charging aura, as if making it stronger. "Send it back!"

"Dodge and use Electro Ball!" Pikachu backs away and runs, jumping over the sphere before firing off his own that impacts Lucario. But the strike fails to defeat him. 'He's pretty fast too I bet.'

"Oh yeah, Aura Spheres tend not to miss," Korrina says, pointing to the sphere which is turning towards Pikachu. It hits, knocking Pikachu forward.

"Pikachu!"

"Force Palm!" Lucario then fires, blowing Pikachu away into Calem's arms.

Shuffling, Calem sees that Pikachu has fainted. 'No...Pikachu couldn't take it either.'

"How's that? I know you don't stand much of a chance against Mega Lucario's power unless you plan to get completely serious," Korrina tells him with a smug grin.

'I can still defeat her. All I need is him.' "Let's get 'em, Acnologia!" Calem's last Pokemon is the rarely seen Charmander. "Fire Spin!"

Charmander slams his tail to the ground, surrounding the super anubis in a ring of fire. "Force Palm!" Lucario tries to blow away the flames, but stops following electricity sparking through him. "Oh no, Static!"

"Dragon Rage!" Charmander breathes in before unleashing a powerful ball of blue flames that blasts Lucario. He falls to his knee, already feeling the effects of the attack. 'That should have done allot of damage!' "Finish it up with Fire Fang!"

"Power up Punch!" Lucario throws a punch straight to Charmander's mouth, causing a powerful explosion. The Pokemon leap out from the attack, continuously surrounded by the ring of fire. The flames die away as Acno and Lucario fall forward. Mega Evolution comes undone.

The two trainers wait, hoping to end this battle with the winner's Pokemon standing first. With a twitch, Acno rises up first.

'Oh my god... Acno won!' "We did it." Calem grows a slow smile as he looks at his friends. Acno jumps up and down happily at his victory.

The orange lizard glows bright blue, its body growing in size as it evolves. He now stands tall as the red Charmeleon.

Charmeleon, the Flame Pokemon - Charmeleon mercilessly destroys its foes using its sharp claws, especially when it encounters a strong foe in which it becomes aggressive. In this excited state, the flame at the tip of its tail flares with a bluish white color.

'I really have come out on top with this...' Calem bends down to brush Acno's scales. "You've grown strong, Acnologia."

He returns it before turning over to Korrina helping up Lucario. She looks over to him as he approaches. "How is he?"

"Lucario is fine. Thank you," she replies, spraying his wounds with a Super Potion. "Oh! I have been defeated! Alack, alay! Lady Korrina gave a terrible display! This is it. I must give up my title and admit that your strength far exceeds..."

He tilts his head at her outburst. She then laughs, pushing him and saying, "Just teasing! But here's your Badge. You're going to be swimming in them soon."

Korrina hands him the Rumble Badge, which he takes before inserting it inside his case. "I did it; I have the Rumble Badge."

"With this, you now have three badges. That is the extent of what I can do for you as a Gym Leader, but as you have surpassed me you now inherit the title of Successor. And I also have another gift for you." Korrina takes out a Premier ball and hands it to him, beside a Mega Stone. "This is the Lucario that has befriended you, and a Lucarionite. I haven't been able to sync together with Lucario the way I have with my other one, but for it to take such a shine to you means there's something special it sees in you. So I'm giving him to you."

"Wow... Thank you." She smiles at the praise. "Korrina, I'll be facing Serena."

"Her huh..." The blond Gym Leader gains a nasty glare thinking about her. "Calem, do you think she's really a good friend to you? She's hiding something from you."

"Maybe. Everyone's hiding something..." Calem raises his hand. "Even me."

"I know... You possess an aura different from hers and mine..." She touches his hand.

"You can tell?"

"I am an Aura Guardian. With it I can sense and track Aura, and yours is especially strong and full of life. Hers however... It's filled with despair and death. It scares me a little." Korrina places a hand on his shoulder. "Calem, I don't know what happened to you, but be careful."

"Okay, thank you." He looks up at her calmly. He then leaves out the gym, the gym leader skater following after. They continue until reaching just outside the Tower of Mastery. There Serena can be seen waiting for him.

"Calem, I'm been waiting..." she says to him.

"Calem, here." Korrina takes out two Max Revives. "Use these on your fallen Pokemon."

"Thank you."

Calem waves to Korrina as she leaves, stirring up Serena. The two then face one another, holding out their initial Pokeball. Serena takes in a deep breath, saying, "I want you to know; it is my desire to set myself apart from other trainers. Mastering Sky Battles was one, but with Mega Evolution I could reach heights no one else has even dreamed of. And you are the stepping stone to reaching that goal."

"I see." Calem closes his eyes before turning to her with a smile. "I'm still looking for what I want out of life, and gaining money to support mom was the only thing at the moment. But, I think the more people I come across, the more ideals I clash with, the more I'll discover what I will become."

"Good." Serena turns to look at the others, who give approving nods. Calem uses the revives on Yaoki and Pikachu. "This will be a three on three battle. Both trainers can exchange Pokemon at any time."

"Oui." Calem and Serena send out their Pokemon. Calem's is Garo, while Serena releases Mystic. Though he recognizes it as Meowstic, the color scheme is so much different. He scans it, and the Pokedex gives more info.

Meowstic is the evolved form of Espurr, but it can reach two different forms depending on its gender. Males gain defensive tactics while females are offensive in nature.

'So, this is a female Meowstic.' "Garo, use Sword Dance!"

"Mystic, Reflect!" As Garo gains a power up, Mystic forms a barrier around herself. "Now, Psybeam!"

"Fury Cutter!" Garo takes in the psychic attack, before slashing and hitting the barrier. "Shadow Sneak!" The sword then stabs the ground to send his shadow, but the barrier protects her again. However, a blow does manage to sneak through.

"Psyshock!" Mystic summons the earth around her to strike the sword.

"Slice them away!" Garo slashes each of the stones before sheathing himself. Calem then examines Mystic, noticing the barrier faltering. 'Now!' "Shadow Sneak!"

Garo stabs into the ground, striking full force at Mystic. The kitty falls backwards, losing consciousness. "No, Mystic!"

"That's one down Serena." Calem states. Serena retrieves her Pokemon and looks over her options.

"You got this, Wartortle!" Serena sends out Wartortle.

"Fury Cutter!" Garo flies in to swing, but Wartortle enters his shell and blocks.

"Aqua Tail!" The turtle spins and slams Garo with a water tail. "Now, Scald!" He then shoots hot water that sends Garo to the ground.

"Garo!" Calem calls out to his Pokemon, but he remains fallen and defeated. "Nice work Garo."

He takes out another Pokeball after retrieving Garo. "Alright, let's try this. Pikachu!" With Pikachu out to fight, the Pokemon turns his eyes to face the turtle.

"Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!" The mouse releases lightning at Wartortle.

"Rapid Spin!" The turtle enters his shell and spins, taking in the lightning. When it subsides, Wartortle comes out relatively unharmed. "Now, Scald!"

"Electro Ball!" Pikachu drops his ball down at the water, causing an electrified explosion. "Quick Attack!" He then jets forward and tackles Wartortle.

"Wartortle, return!" She retrieves her Pokemon and takes out another ball. "I was going to send out Maurice, but this is where I go serious. Let's blaze the track, Talonburn!"

Serena sends out her strongest Pokemon, the Blaziken Talonburn. "There you are, Blaziken." He takes out Pikachu's Pokeball. "Return!"

"Who's coming up? Nanami?"

"Wrong. If your Pokemon there is the best you have, then I'll use the best I have as well." He chooses the Premier Ball, sending out Lucario. "Let's go Lucario. No, Kouga!"

"Lucario? When did you..."

"Kouga was a gift from Korrina, for proving myself a true trainer who has earned the power of Mega Evolution." He raises his arm wielding the Mega Bracelet. "Kouga, if you and I are truly connected by a bond that overcomes fate, then let's prove it; Mega Evolution!"

Light peers out from his bracelet the moment he enters Lucarionite inside. Energy gathers around Kouga, transforming it into his strongest form. The barrier explodes as he comes out, as Mega Lucario.

"Wow! You managed to pull it off!" She holds up a Mega Stone.

"Eh? Isn't that-"

"It's time for me to see if I'm chosen as well. Mega Evolution!" She attaches the stone to her bracelet, before having it glow brightly and surround Talonburn. It fills her with energy, before the shell explodes to reveal her new form. "Mega Blaziken!"

"I don't believe this..." says Calem in shock upon seeing her new form. "You managed it so easily."

"Yeah. Let's get going. Talonburn, Blaze Kick!" Moving quickly, Blaziken rushes forward to kick Kouga in the face.

"Power Up Punch!" The two collide, resulting in an explosion of power. "Metal Sound!"

Kouga's voice hits, causing extreme pain to the fire fighting type. "Fire Punch/Power Up Punch!" Raising her fists, Talonburn throws a strong punch at Kouga to the face, while the anubis Pokemon strikes the chicken's underside. Fire Punch however does more damage because of his weakness.

"Kouga!" Calem cringes upon seeing his Pokemon take a hit.

"Aerial Ace!" Talonburn flies across the air to strike Kouga from behind.

"Sword Dance!" Kouga summons ethereal swords which block Talonburn's beak.

"What?"

"Sword Dance upgrades Kouga's attack power. Power Up Punch!" Kouga strikes, sending Talonburn backwards. The fire chicken slides through the sand painfully. "And through each use of Power Up Punch, Kouga's attack power raises beyond normal levels already."

"He...thought that far ahead? Even though Talonburn has the type advantage?"

"Kouga, Bone Rush!" Kouga forms an energy bone and strikes Talonburn with it like a bo.

"Sky Uppercut!" Talonburn strikes upward, punching Kouga so far up he crashes downward.

"Kouga!" Calem looks over at his Pokemon, who comes out of his transformation.

"Kouga has fainted..." Serena says before turning to Talonburn who has fallen to a knee as well. She then drops down painfully face down. "Talonburn!"

"It's a draw..." Calem whispers once he sees Serena's Pokemon defeated. He retrieves his Pokemon Kouga. "We're reduced to one Pokemon each now."

"Yes." Serena retrieves her Pokemon before taking out Wartortle's ball. "It's all you Wartortle."

"Pikachu!" Both Pokemon face off on one another.

"Wartortle, Scald!" The turtle fires quickly, giving the water type a slight burn. "Once more, Scald!"

"Thunderbolt the ground ahead!" Pikachu fires ahead of himself, creating a dust cloud that allows him to dodge to the left. "Quick Attack!"

"Rapid Spin!" The two attacks hit, Pikachu's head knocking Wartortle off balance.

"Electro Ball!" Electricity charges in a ball before he spins, launching the sphere and blasting the tortoise. "Thunderbolt!" The follow up fries Wartortle completely, leaving him laying on the field charred.

"Wartortle!" Serena calls out. She gasps seeing the situation before her, realizing her and her Pokemon were bested. "I lost..."

"Serena..." Calem walks over to her, retrieving Pikachu. Serena recalls Wartortle, who sighs. "Are you okay?"

"Calem... You've really gotten stronger haven't you?" Serena stares deep into the boy's eyes. "I'm proud of you and your progress."

"Thank you. That means allot coming from you," he says, feeling proud at his strength. "Serena, what now for you?"

"I'm going to continue, until I can catch up to you. Then we'll battle again-" Serena stops when she feels her heart stop for a moment. She steps away from Calem.

"Serena?"

"Stay away!" Serena suddenly shouts, before biking away.

"Serena..." Calem moves for her, but she's too fast. "What was that about?"

The day goes along after the battle; Calem heals his Pokemon and switches his team around. He now carries Nanami, Pikachu, Acno, Garo, Kouga and Amaura.

Checking his map he determines his next destination is east, and though he's worried about Serena he should move forward. There's no way they won't cross paths again.

Coming out to Route 12 he continues cross the sea to reach the next gym in Coumarine City. "This should be close."

Along the way he comes by a ranch, where he sees to his surprise Diantha petting a Gogoat. "Eh?"

"Ah, Calem," she says upon seeing him, moving over to see him. "I was hoping to run into you some time." She takes his arm looking at his Mega Bracelet. "Amazing; you're just like me now."

"Just like you?" She touches the necklace she wears. "This is the Mega Necklace. It allows me to Mega Evolve my Pokemon."

"Wow... So that's what that was..."

Diantha takes his arm. "Professor Sycamore was actually looking for you. Let's go."

"Eh?" Calem turns dark red as she guides him escort style off to Coumarine City. "Um, I'm not sure..."

"It's okay. There's a gym there too. Besides, being around a beautiful woman like me should be enjoyable," says the Champion as they continue.

Kenshin: This ends chapter 6. It's kind of small, but necessary.
