Yes, I last left you with Zane and kai standing over a dying horse… Anyhoo, ON WITH THE SHOW! And I did not kill titanium because of his name, if you were wondering, it's just a plot twist :l
Kai rubbed Zane's back. Kai lifted his phone next to his ear.
"Yes, please be here as soon as possible. It's bad."
Nya looked down at Lloyd, who was standing next to her. A big white van pulled into the lot near the arena. Lloyd stared at it and turned to nya.
"Who are they?" he sked her innocently. Nya looked down at a text from kai and her expression darkened.
"We need to go." She turned Lloyd away from the scene and told him to stay in the tack-room. Jay looked at her curiously and walked up to her.
"What's wrong?" he said.
"Its titanium, both his legs are broken. The vet's here to-" jay put his hand on her shoulder.
"I'll make sure Lloyd doesn't see. He'd be devastated…"
"NO!" Zane screamed and threw his arms over his horse.
The vet had said that the accident had been so bad that titanium wasn't going to make it, no matter how hard they tried. The vet leaned down next to the sobbing teen.
"Hey, buddy, think about titanium here. Do want him to die slowly and pain-fully?" she said softly.
Zane wiped the tears off of his dirt and tear-stained face and sniffled. "I-I guess not." He stammered.
The vet took his hand and smiled sadly. "Then this is what we have to do. It's just a little shot, and it will relieve him of his pain. It'll be just like if he was going to sleep."
Zane started crying again. "But I don't want him to go!"
The vet rubbed his back. "You'll get a brand new horse, and you can ride it."
Zane looked at her sadly. "But it won't be titanium. And I'm not even sure if titanium wants to die yet, he's only 11, and I'm scared that he won't be okay with it." he sobbed.
Nya ran up to them, panting, but her breath caught in her throat when she saw Zane and his poor horse.
Zane looked up at nya and sniffled. He turned to the vet and nodded his head sadly.
"You're ready?" she asked. Zane nodded again and the vet gave the small shot to the shakily breathing horse.
Zane stroked titanium's soft pink nose as titanium started breathing slower. Zane leaned his head on titanium's cheek and whispered, "I'm sorry," And kissed him. He sat up and looked into titanium's eye, and started singing softly as he rubbed him. After about five minutes, one last heaving breath came out of the great horse. Zane stopped singing and hugged titanium's neck fiercely.
Nya turned and sobbed into kai's shoulder. Kai hugged her and thanked the vet. She nodded sadly and drove off.
"Zane," kai nudged him softly. Zane turned to him and shook his head.
"No, I want to stay here a little longer." He said quietly.
Nya hugged him and whispered, "I am so sorry, Zane."
Zane hugged her back and tried to smile. "It's alright. Right before he died, titanium told me it was okay. We looked at each other and in his gaze I could tell that he was saying, 'it's all right, stay strong.' And that's what im going to do."
Nya hugged him even tighter. "Oh, Zane, we'll get you the biggest, best jumping horse that ever walked the earth!"
Zane smiled. "If he's at least half as good as titanium was, we're in for a good deal."
"Yeah, I'm sorry. We had a bad horse accident… yes, we had to put him down…" kai had walked away and was cancelling the lesson that was planned. The woman seemed disappointed, but she understood.
Kai sighed and looked over at Zane and his horse. They had to bury it, but kai didn't know if Zane was ready yet.
Lloyd ran out of the barn with jay hot at his heels. "NO! You can't go out there!" jay yelled after him.
Lloyd came to a screeching halt when he saw Zane and the limp horse. He looked at kai.
"What's wrong with titanium?" he asked. Kai bit his lip and pushed Lloyd back into the barn.
"Not right now, now stay here with jay and DO NOT comes out again. Lloyd groaned and nodded.
It was sunset when Zane had finished sitting vigil for his friend. He told kai to bury titanium somewhere, and not to tell him where it was.
Before he went up to the house, Zane leaned down next to titanium and cut a lock of the horse's hair off. He clutched it tightly and ran up to the house.
Kai had to pick up the heavy horse with a bulldozer. He dug a large hole out in the field to put titanium into. He was just a bout to drop titanium in when he felt a tap on his shoulder.
There stood Zane, holding a gold medal that he and titanium had won in a competition. Zane placed the medal around the horse's neck and kissed him good bye for one last time.
Kai put the body into the hole and covered it up with dirt. Zane stood by, with his head drooped towards the ground.
Later that night, around ten o'clock, when everyone had changed out of their jeans and jodhpurs and showered, Zane put a pot of milk on the stove to heat it.
Everyone was in bed, but Zane couldn't sleep. He sighed and poured vanilla in to the pot and stirred it. All he could think about was titanium. He knew that it was alright, but he still couldn't let his prized jumper go.
A door opened, and kai walked out.
"Can't sleep, huh?" he murmured. Zane put down two mugs of vanilla milk and took a sip of his.
"Nah," he muttered. Kai smiled and looked at his phone.
"I was looking at some jumpers for sale. Wanna check 'em out tomorrow?" he asked.
Zane shrugged. "It feels a little too soon…"
"Okay," kai said and took a large gulp from his mug.
After a few minutes of random conversation, the mugs were drained, and they went to bed.
Yes, this chapter was sad… R.I.P. Titanium. And Zane will feel better too, and a new horse! If anyone wants to suggest its name or how it looks, go right ahead! :D the story will be happy again next chapter, I promise.:)
