Gillian checked her hair and makeup in the mirror one final time. Tonight she would have her first evening alone with Cal baby free, while Loker, Ria, and Emily babysat Sophie. She was excited to be able to have some alone time with her husband but was also terrified to leave her baby girl, though she knew she could trust the babysitters.
Cal knocked on the bathroom door, "Can I come in love?"
"Of course," responded Gillian. Cal opened the bathroom door and found his wife in a sleeveless, maroon dress and heals.
"You are so beautiful," he responded when he laid eyes on her, "I would never guess a baby ever came out of that body."
"Liar," Gillian smirked capping her lipstick and putting into her purse, "I am not back to my pre baby body and you know it."
"Maybe not. But you are still the most beautiful woman on Earth," said Cal kissing her.
"You make me feel like the most beautiful woman on Earth," she smirked before the couple heard a knock at the door.
"I got it!" shouted Emily from downstairs. Cal and Gillian joined her and found Loker and Ria sitting on the couch.
"Loker, Torres," Cal greeted his employees.
"Lightman, Foster turned Lightman," said Loker. He was always trying to mix things up with Gillian's name change. Gillian nodded to the both of them.
"So where is the little one?" asked Ria.
"She's right here," said Emily picking up her half-sister form her bassinet and putting her in Ria's arms.
"Okay, we'll only be a few hours. I've pumped some bottles and put them in the fridge. You both have our cell phone numbers, her pediatrician and her cardiologist's numbers are on the refrigerator door. The number of the restaurant is on the side…"
"Gill," said Ria, "We'll be okay."
Gillian nodded, "Okay. I'm just…"
"I know," said Ria putting her hand on Gillian's shoulder, "But we're going to have fun tonight aren't we?" asked Ria to Sophie. Sophie yawned and stretched in response.
Gillian smiled and kissed Sophie, "Now don't do anything cute while I'm gone okay baby girl?"
"Gill you think everything she does is cute," joked Emily.
"Don't encourage her," said Cal, "Well I expect my girls to be in good hands. Come on love."
Gillian took Cal's hand, "Mommy loves you," she called to Sophie before disappearing out the door.
Ria, Loker, and Emily smiled. Sophie would be a month old in a few days but she had already captured the hearts of them all. Out of the blue, Sophie started to cry.
"Um, okay, that was fast," said Loker, "Are you hungry little one?" he cooed at Sophie.
"I saw Gillian feeding her right before she changed. I don't think she's hungry," said Emily.
"Um, I think I know why she's crying," said Ria.
Restaurant…
Cal and Gillian had taken their seats and were now looking over the menus, "It's nice to just the two of us huh love?" asked Cal.
"Yeah, but it feels weird. It's the first time in ten months I don't have Sophie with me," said Gillian.
"Ten?" asked Cal confusingly.
"Nine months I carried her in me, one month since she was born," said Gillian.
Cal smiled once he realized Gillian was including the pregnancy in the estimation, "Do you want wine or should we hold off with you nursing?" he asked.
"Um, can we hold off on the wine? I know it can get into my milk and I want what's best for Sophie," said Gillian.
Cal nodded his understanding. When the food arrived, Cal held up his water glass and said, "To an evening of being normal people."
Gillian chuckled and clinked her glass to Cal's, "Sweetheart, I love you dearly, and I'm going to say this as nicely as possible. You've never been normal."
Cal smirked at his wife, "Smart arse."
Lightman House…
"Have you ever changed a diaper Torres?" asked Loker staring at the infant on the changing table.
"No but there's a first for everything," said Ria. Emily chuckled at the two colleagues, "Okay Sophie, let's see how well Aunt Ria and Uncle Eli can do this," cooed Ria at the baby, "Diaper." Loker hand her the diaper and she put the fresh diaper under Sophie, "Okay baby girl, let's just get you cleaned up here," she said wiping Sophie clean before she finished changing her.
"Well that wasn't so hard," said Loker.
Ria glared, "Yeah since you didn't do anything." Sophie started crying again.
"Now she'll be hungry," said Emily.
"Gill said bottles would be in the fridge right?" asked Loker cradling a screaming Sophie. Emily nodded, "She showed me how to warm the bottles. I'll get one started." Emily ran downstairs.
"It's okay baby. Mommy and Daddy will be home soon," said Ria.
Restaurant…
Cal smiled and laughed as he watched Gillian dig into her hot fudge brownie sundae, "What's so funny?" asked Gillian.
"Nothing darling," he said.
"I know you're laughing at me eating this sundae" smirked Gillian.
"The first time I met you I was in therapy but then you immediately went to eat candy on your desk after our session," said Cal.
"Did I?" asked Gillian taking a biteful of whipped cream.
Cal nodded. The waiter brought the check and Cal paid before the couple went back to their car. Cal drove Gillian back to the fountain where he had professed his love to her and he had proposed to her. The area already had a Christmas tree set up for the town tree lighting in a few weeks. He walked Gillian over to the fountain and they both sat down at one of the tables next to the fountain. The couple sat there hand in hand gazing at the stars before Cal said, "I love you Gillian."
Gillian kissed Cal on the cheek and laid her head on his shoulder before she said, "I love you too honey."
"Well shall we relieve our colleagues from our colicky daughter?" asked Cal.
Gillian nodded and followed Cal to the car. The couple drove home and Cal opened the front door to find Ria bouncing a screaming Sophie. She gave a relieved smile when she saw her bosses, "Thank goodness you both are home! I think she hates me."
"No she doesn't hate you. She's just colicky. And hates to be bounced," Gillian emphasized.
Ria immediately stopped bouncing the infant in her arms and Sophie stopped crying, "Oh. Well I'm sorry little one," she chuckled and handed Sophie to Gillian, "It's been about two hours since we last fed her so she'll probably be hungry soon."
"I think she needs a diaper change too," said Cal.
"Um where's Loker?" asked Gillian rocking Sophie. Ria pointed to the couch where Loker was fast asleep.
"Sophie wore him out," Ria said tapping him on the shoulder, "Loker!"
Loker jerked awake and said, "What? Is Sophie okay?" he asked before laying his eyes on Cal and Gillian.
"Go home and get some sleep Loker," said Cal.
Loker yawned and nodded. He bid his farewell along with Ria. Cal followed Gillian upstairs and Gillian nursed Sophie before putting her in her crib. She went to the master bedroom and dressed for bed. She crawled in next and snuggled next to Cal. Cal kissed her on her temple and gave a mischievous grin, "Hey are you up for? You know?"
Gillian didn't have to even open her eyes to know the look on his face, "Dr. Samuel said to wait about six weeks after the birth to resume that," said Gillian.
Cal's grin disappeared but he understood Gillian's reasoning, "Okay, it'll give me something to look forward to then."
"Yes it will," Gillian grinned, "I love you Cal."
"I love you too Gill."
