A/N Serious props to last Guest reviewer who actually made me smile with a joke… Without further ado, Chapter 14…
Everyone's POV
Sabrina woke up to three fairies bustling around her, and the sun shining into her room. Her ginormous, pink room. It all started to come back to her. Titania's unexpected approval and kindness, the promise of her parents waking up and having many years before she would have to marry Puck and become Queen, the fact that there was actually hope for her to be happy in this unusual situation…
"YES! Good morning ladies. Galanna, you look stunning today, Aerin and Elette, you as well. So, where's the corset thingy? I have a meeting to get to, don't I?" Sabrina had hopped out of bed and was grinning like a madwoman. I mean, she was going to wake up her parents, her family would be back together!
The three handmaidens glanced at each other in semi-shock and then back at their future queen. Elette was the first one to let out a snort of laughter, but soon the other two were joining in as well. Peals of laughter and excited words were soon being flung across the room.
"I like the red dress-"
"Hair up? Or maybe-"
"Maybe the pale green, though, to match Puck's eyes-"
"Remember that this contract will make you the Crowned Princess-"
By the time everything had calmed down, Sabrina and her handmaidens were all smiling and having a good time, and Sabrina was almost ready to be escorted to the morning meeting. Aerin had explained that Sabrina would most likely be in the meeting until dinner, and that all meals would be held in the conference room they would be discussing the contract in.
Moth's family had stayed for days to work on a lengthy and greedy contract, demanding lots of servants and had made quite a few enemies among the staff with their outlandish requests. Apparently her mother would only drink hand pressed filtered blueberry juice, and her father had wanted roasted chestnuts to be rubbed onto his feet each hour among other things.
Sabrina was laughing as each of the handmaidens took turns telling her about the crazy things that had happened to them over the years as handmaidens to the royal families' guests. She even told them a few funny stories of her own about Daphne and her crazy made-up vocabulary, and how the little girl could sleep like the dead.
When Sabrina was finally done getting ready, she looked into the mirror and was very happy to find that the three had listened to her request of keeping her more natural than the night before. Her blonde hair was straightened and styled in a high ponytail that reached down to her waist tied up with another strand of her hair . The corset was tight, but bearable, and the simple silk green dress was beautiful. It was a pale green with strands of gold woven throughout that reminded the blonde of Puck's eyes. It had cap sleeves and clung to her curves, falling in a straight sheet down to her feet.
Sabrina's makeup was kept very simple. Her lashes were thick and dark on their own, so all that was added was a swipe of clear gloss over Sabrina's naturally pink lips. Her spattering of freckles dusted across the bridge of her nose. She looked strong, human. She looked like Sabrina Grimm, and she was ready.
A knock on her door sent her three handmaidens out of sight through the other entrance, curtsying as they left. Sabrina flung open the door, expecting Puck, but finding instead it was Mustardseed- Mace, she corrected herself- standing at the door looking very serious.
When he saw her, however, he smiled politely and offered his arm to Sabrina.
"You look lovely, Sabrina."
"Thanks, Mace, but I was actually told Puck was going to take me to the meeting…"
"Ah, yes. I am here to accompany you because my brother has had an… issue with another inhabitant of the Palace. I will bring you to the meeting instead, if that is alright."
Sabrina shrugged non-committedly, not wanting to let it show that she was actually looking forward to seeing Puck. She was feeling feisty, and she loved bickering with Puck, even though she would never admit it.
As Mace took her through the halls, he commented on different tapestries and paintings, telling Sabrina history that sounded more like fables and tall tales. Sabrina smiled and nodded, but she was actually thinking about the meeting. She was more caught up in the fact that her parents will be woken up, but now her thoughts drifted towards the price she had to pay to wake them. Marry Puck and become Queen someday, and Henry and Veronica Grimm will be woken up and she would have her family back.
"We are here, Sabrina," Mace said, smiling and opening the door for her. He really did miss the rude traits Puck had, though Sabrina. But he also missed the parts of Puck that made her wish the fairy boy would drag her to the nearest empty room and push her against the wall for another stolen kiss.
"Hello, Sabrina. Are you ready to discuss the terms of your contract?"
Sabrina turned to Titania, taking in the conference room. It had high ceilings, mahogany woodwork framing the room. The lights were soft, muted yellows in elegant sconces surrounding a huge table with Puck, Titania, Mace, herself, and a few other fairies Sabrina didn't recognize.
"Yes, thank you," Sabrina said, taking her seat across from Puck. She tried to make eye contact with him, but he wouldn't look at her. His back was stiff and he didn't look happy about the contract, or like his regular mischievous self.
"So," began an elderly fairy whom Sabrina later found out was a lawyer, taking out a feather quill dipped in sparkling black ink over a blank white parchment sheet. "You have already stated that you agree to a five hundred year time limit on your engagement before marriage. Prince Puck, do you agree?"
Puck gave a curt nod to the older gentleman. The fairy wrote up that stipulation on the parchment, and when he finished, it glowed faintly for a moment, then solidified. So, that was that. Sabrina was getting married within the next five lifetimes.
"Ms. Grimm, you have articulated interest in staying with your family in Fairyport Landing during your period of engagement. You would also like to go to college and finish high school. That is all fine as long as you do not exceed the age of eighteen during your engagement. The royal family has agreed to pay for your college tuition, and the tuition for a Ms. Daphne Grimm. Do you agree?"
Sabrina's mouth parted in surprise, she looked over at Puck, but he was staring with hard green eyes at the table. They reminded her of jade. Hard and beautiful. Why wouldn't he look at her?
"That sounds very generous. Thank you. Um… Puck, he will continue to live with us, right? I mean, if I am going to marry him I'd like to see him often, I guess." Sabrina was internally slapping herself. She was so going to regret sounding like a whiny, clingy girlfriend. But then Puck's eyes lifted and met hers, a look of surprise laced with… pain? Sabrina felt bad for him. Here he was, getting out of one contract, only to be sucked into another he didn't want. Her heart squeezed. Maybe he really didn't want her. Maybe he wasn't capable of the kind of love Sabrina saw her parents shine with everyday they were together. She wanted that, someday, and what if Puck didn't?
The older man cleared his throat, breaking Sabrina out of her thoughts. "The last stipulation you discussed was that your family would be able to come to the palace freely. We can allow this as long as you are here with the Prince for every holiday and both of your birthdays, the Queen's as well. Do you agree?"
"Yes. I agree." Sabrina answered decisively. These were all things that Titania had discussed with her beforehand.
"The last stipulation on our end is children. And of course, the fact that a scholar will need to accompany you to Fairyport to ensure you continue training for becoming the Crown Princess and learning all the rules and history that comes with your job. Would you like anything else?"
"I agree to the scholar, and I want children someday, so that should be fine if Puck… um, if he wants to… you know… Could I request handmaidens?" Sabrina wanted desperately to change the subject to something that didn't make her think dirty thoughts about the Crowned Prince. She wanted to kiss him again, preferably without being interrupted by Daphne… but he was Puck, and she was Sabrina, and there was no way she was making a move first.
The elderly man stopped writing, a curious smile spreading across his features. "Request handmaidens? Well, it's never been done before, but if you would like to it would be alright."
Sabrina smiled, thankful for the new conversation. "I would like Elette, Galanna, and Aerin to be my handmaidens. Please."
Puck laughed softly. "Of course you would have made friends with them, Grimm. You are the opposite of Moth."
Titania smiled at Sabrina. "That's a lovely request, my dear. Is that all you would like?"
Sabrina nodded. The older man finished the contract and passed it to Puck to sign. He did it quickly, and passed it to Sabrina. The feather quill thrummed between her fingers, and she signed her name as best she could. It glowed with her name, then solidified into the contract.
"Well, that's that. If you would excuse me…" Puck stood up, grabbing Sabrina's arm and taking her with him. "I have to take the Grimm on a tour of the gardens, so we are leaving."
Sabrina was shocked, and as soon as they had left the room, Puck had opened his wings with a pop and shot through the halls, blasting out into the sky above the gardens.
Sabrina shot him a glare that could freeze the worst type of person in their tracks. Tried and proven true, after all, she had to use it many times while she was in the foster system.
"Puck, you didn't talk to me, didn't look at me for that whole meeting. You know, the one about our futures? And now you think that you can just pick me up and fly me outside, thinking everything is going to be fine? Well think again." Sabrina said all of his with a harsh glint in her eyes, and Puck just smirked at her while she spoke.
"You know, I really love it how you think you are in charge up here," Puck said smugly, while gesturing to the sky surrounding them. "Up up and away, Grimmy-bear."
With that, Puck dropped Sabrina. He just let go. Sabrina, having been quite used to this by now, just flipped in the air, trying not to smile as she fell through fluffy white clouds and streaks of golden sunlight wrapping around her. She knew Puck wouldn't let her fall, and she was still angry at him.
Puck caught her at the last second, before she hit the clear water of a blue lake beneath her. Sabrina hadn't realized they had flown out so far, but now she was a little nervous. She was alone with Puck hovering over a magical lake in the Land of Fey. She just knew she wanted to know why he had been so distant with her at the meeting. It was like he was guilty about something.
"Puck… Why did you act like that back there? And why didn't you pick me up at my room before the meeting? Mace said something about trouble…" Sabrina started, curiosity finally winning out over anger.
Puck sighed. "I guess I do owe you an explanation. The trouble was Moth. She attacked me and tried to get me to skip the meeting and…do stuff with her instead."
Sabrina gasped. Of course, Moth was still after Puck, and playing dirty too. Sabrina had never offered Puck no strings physical intimacy. And he was a teen boy, even if he was magical. Sabrina swallowed hard, something that felt suspiciously like jealousy had worked its way into her eyes, and she didn't want Puck to see.
"Brina, I said no," Puck said, seeing her obvious discomfort. "I would never do that. I've lived long enough to see what one mistake can do, and I'm not stupid. Besides, she's only acting like that to get to the Crown. Your crown, since, ya know, I'm kinda stuck with you as my-" here Puck physically shuddered- "Girlfriend."
Sabrina smiled up at him, not as angry now that she knew the reason he had acted so strangely. And, he had admitted to turning Moth down, which, although Sabrina would never admit this, made her inexplicably happy. And, he had called her his girlfriend!
"Are you making this official, Puck? Cuz you don't get me to yourself that easily," Sabrina said with a smirk.
Puck looked confused. "But the contract…"
"The contract gives us five hundred years. If you want me to be your girlfriend, you have to earn it. Romance, magical moments, flowers, the works."
Puck blanched. "No no no, Grimmy-bear. If you want me to be your boyfriend you have to…" Here Puck had to think, because he definitely didn't want 'flowers' and 'romance.' "You have to name me the Trickster King once and for all and bow- er, curtsy- before me, your King," Puck finished, puffing his chest out proudly.
Sabrina laughed. "Is that all? Because that's not going to happen anytime soon, Tinkerbell."
Puck scowled, then tilted his head down so his breath was right in her ear. "That's not all. You also have to kiss me first," Puck finished in a low whisper, making Sabrina shiver involuntarily.
Sabrina leaned her head back into his shoulder so she could whisper into his ear.
"If you're waiting for that to happen, you are going to have to wait a very long time, Puck."
"We'll see, Brina. We'll see."
With that, Puck took them back to the palace, slower this time, so Sabrina could enjoy the view. And although the view was gorgeous, it was wasted on the pair of Everafters who were already plotting how to get their way when they resumed life in Fairyport Landing.
A/N Thank you my lovely reviewers! Now their time at the Palace is basically over so they will go back to high school and living together, which is much more fun to write. I hope you have enjoyed the story so far! :)
