When Sabrina and Puck got home, both were red faced and laughing. Sabrina was mad, Puck was insulted, and both of them were bickering. When Granny Relda let them in, she looked to Sabrina like she was crying.
"Oh, lieblings! The most wonderful thing happened, thanks to your new contract! Henry and Veronica are with us again!"
When Sabrina heard this, she ran past Granny Relda, Puck close behind her, to find Veronica and Henry Grimm at the kitchen table, freshly showered and talking bright-eyed with Daphne.
"Sabrina! Mom and Dad are awake, and talking, and they think I look like a grown-up, and they missed us!" Daphne exclaimed happily. "It's totally rockadoodles!"
Sabrina ran to her parents and flung her arms around them. "Mom, Dad! I told everyone that you would never leave us! No one believed me and they put us in the foster system. Until we found Granny Relda, at least. I missed you so much." Tears pricked in the normally tough girl's eyes.
Veronica, her shoulder-length, curly black hair pulled back in a pony, leaned over and smoothed her eldest daughters hair back. "I am so, so sorry. You look so big, baby. You really are all grown up." She smiled sadly and rested her arm protectively over her stomach. "I have some news too."
Henry pulled Sabrina into a big hug. "We have some news, Ronnie," he said with a knowing smile. Neither parent seemed to notice Puck standing by the doorway, watching the joyful exchanges between the tightly knit family with an out of place look of wistfulness that usually wasn't found in his features.
Veronica cleared her throat. "Before we were spelled- and we are still trying to figure out why and how that happened- we were going to tell you something very special." She took a deep breath. "The spell kept us our same ages, even though everything else changed. It was like a pause button. But now that we are unpaused… well," Veronica looked over at her husband who was smiling and rubbing her back.
Henry cleared his throat. "You girls are going to have a baby brother."
You could've heard a pin drop. Absolute silence was a rarity in the Grimm household, so Henry and Veronica finally noticed the boy standing beside Sabrina, watching her with an intent expression on his face. Veronica smiled knowingly, as a mother does, and started chatting about the baby to a squealing Daphne and an overjoyed, misty-eyed Granny Relda.
"Who are you?" Henry asked, suddenly less interested in his family's reaction and more interested in the boy who was looking at Sabrina a little too much for his taste. After all, the last he remembered she was a ten year old girl.
Puck raised an eyebrow with a crooked smile and gave a mock bow. "I am the Trickster King, Puck. The most powerful being in all of the land."
Henry snorted. "You're what? Robin Goodfellow? Remember I grew up in a family of fairytale detectives. Knowing the troublemakers was part of the job description, though you're looking a bit old for the boy who never grows up. Or at least, his copycat."
Puck gasped, and Sabrina snickered while Daphne looked on with wide eyes. "It's PUCK. NOT Robin Goodfellow! And you did NOT just say I am Peter Pan's copycat! He's a tight-wearing freak who doesn't even have wings! He depends on stupid fairy dust to fly! And duh I'm looking fifteen, that's the age of my fiancee, the Grimm."
Henry looked between a red-faced Sabrina and an indignant Puck. He sputtered, and then his face turned about five different shades of red. "YOU ARE NOT MARRYING MY DAUGHTER!"
Puck scrunched up his nose. "Believe me, I don't want to. But I guess I will want to someday in the next five hundred years, probably the four-hundred and ninety-ninth. The real kicker is the whole living together in the meantime. I guess it's good practice for when you're my father-in-law though."
Henry blanched. "NEVER SAY THAT AGAIN, YOU INSOLENT LITTLE F-"
Veronica laid a hand firmly on her husband's arm. "That's enough, Henry." Turning to Puck she extended a hand. "It's nice to meet you, Puck. I'm sure you'll explain the whole situation to us, won't you?"
Puck shook her hand, trying to look mature and puffing out his chest. Sabrina rolled her eyes.
"Mom, there's a lot to explain. It's not like I'm getting married anytime soon. And the fact that he's my… fiance, is the reason that you guys are awake now. But enough about Puck! I'm so glad you're back. And pregnant!" Sabrina's eyes sparkled at the thought.
Puck, on the other hand, paled considerable and looked at Sabrina like she had sprouted another arm. "Babies are insane! They smell, and they cry, and you have to, like, feed them and walk them!"
Sabrina punched Puck in the arm. "That's a pet, pea-brain! Babies are sweet, little, helpless cuties that basically sleep and eat for the first few months."
Puck rubbed his arm where Sabrina had punched it. "Whatever. Sounds like a pet to me. As long as there's a noise-cancelling spell over my room when it's born."
Sabrina laughed. "I'm surprised you don't already have one, Princess."
Puck affronted, said, "How dare you smear my name! Peasant!"
Veronica stood up, effectively ending the burgeoning war between the two teens. "Alright, it's a school night, and I want all of you in bed within the hour!"
All three kids pulled faces. "But-"
"No buts," a calmer Henry said, now that he was cooling down from his temper tantrum. "Up to bed, and to sleep. Now. And in your OWN rooms!"
Sabrina stomped up the stairs, Puck whizzing by her, flying up faster than she could walk and causing her to stumble and start fighting with the boy again. Daphne went slowly up the stairs, dragging her feet and looking forlornly back at the four adults every so often, making eye contact with Canis, Relda, Veronica, and Henry. Finally, three doors slammed shut and everyone was in their own beds. Or trampoline, in Puck's case.
The next morning, Sabrina woke up early to go on a quick run and take a shower. When she had finished, She stepped out to reach for her towel… only to realize it wasn't there.
"PUCK! GIVE ME MY TOWEL YOU PERVERT!" She screamed, knowing full and well it was the fairy boy up to his tricks again.
"What's the magic word, Grimm-face?" Came the ensuing taunt from outside the door.
"The magic word is I'M NAKED you jerkazoid!"
Puck gulped from outside. Maybe he didn't think this through… With a deep breath and firmly shut eyes, he opened the door and was hit with the strong scent of Sabrina's shampoo and the steam from her shower.
"PUCK WHAT ARE YOU DOING!"
"GIVING YOU YOUR TOWEL! STOP YELLING AT ME!"
Sabrina grabbed the towel and slammed the door. At least he had had the decency to keep his eyes closed. She quickly wrapped it around herself and barged out of the bathroom, shouldering into Puck, who still had his eyes shut.
"I have my towel on now, you pervert. Don't you dare do that again."
Puck slowly opened one eye, then grinned and opened the other. "Had to do something. I mean, it's the first day back to school as official fiancees. I just wanted you to know that even though I'm supposed to like you someday, today is not that day.."
Sabrina slapped him on the shoulder, causing her towel to slip a bit, and she caught it quickly. "Stop looking at my chest, Puck, it ruins your whole 'I don't like you' speech. And don't think it's one sided. I fully intend to keep you away from me for as long as possible. I'm thinking four hundred ninety nine years and three hundred sixty four days, give or take."
Puck let out a startled laugh. "You couldn't resist me for another week. I give it a year before you're begging for the altar and I'm warding you off. We have gym class today, Grimm. Dodgeball. You are going to pay."
Sabrina rolled her eyes. "Not if I beat you first- and now that I'm an Everafter, that's more than likely. Almost a given, actually." Slipping past the gaping boy, she slammed her door behind her, and leaned her back on it for a moment, biting her lip to hide her smile.
Going over to her dresser, Sabrina decided to wear a pair of skinny jeans and long-sleeve green t-shirt that said bowling and roller rinks on it. The weather was getting colder, after all. Slipping on navy converse and adding a touch of lip gloss, she blow dried her hair straight so the golden sheets fell straight down to her waist. Flipping it over to a deep side part, she headed downstairs in hopes of a breakfast consisting of normal food.
No such luck. The girl groaned as the scent of pumpkin and kiwi sauce hit her nose. It was Daphne's favorite food, and Sabrina was starting to pick out the different scents that always permeated her kitchen with more ease.
With a knowing smile, Henry passed his daughter a breakfast bar and slid a glass of orange juice towards her. Sabrina smiled brightly and mouthed a thank you to her dad.
Puck came bounding down the stairs a moment later wearing, to Sabrina's chagrin, a long-sleeved green top and a pair of jeans.
"Wow Grimm, matching me now too? Hashtag twinning, am I right?" Puck said with a smirk.
"Puck! We can't match! You wear khakis like everyday, and now you decide to wear jeans? Go change now!" Sabrina yelled.
"You go change!"
"I got down here first!"
"But I was wearing this when you weren't even dressed from the shower yet!"
"How did you know she took a shower, Puck?" Henry asked, his face turning purple as he interrupted the teens' fighting match. Veronica smiled and put a hand on Henry's arm.
"Dear, this is how most mornings are here, apparently. Sabrina and Puck fight a lot, according to Relda," Veronica said in a calming tone.
"It's the first day of fall, did you know that Bri?" Daphne asked around a mouthful of waffles and the sauce. The teens stopped fighting as quickly as they had begun, since one of them was currently eating everything in sight.
"Good, fall's my favorite season," Sabrina replied. She loved the way the leaves changed colors and fell to the ground, she loved the crunch beneath her feet, and the crisp air perfect for cozy sweaters and coffee with hot chocolate. Fall was the best.
"Mine too," Puck said. "Halloween- lots of candy. Thanksgiving- lots of food. Christmas- lots of presents. And it's colder which is nice for leaf piles and hot chocolate and stuff."
Sabrina shot him a quizzical look at the last part, which Puck quickly covered for. "It just sucks cuz of school. Taking that into account, summer's most obviously unsurpassed in that regard."
Sabrina sometimes forgot Puck grew up in the Palace, with tutors who taught him words like 'unsurpassed' and 'in regard.' He just never really used them unless he wasn't thinking about it and they slipped out. He once told her that being underestimated is the greatest weapon you can have. She didn't really know what he meant until she had started studying him more closely. He never talked about feelings or showed off his obviously well-rounded education, though he had to be brilliant for all of his pranks. And though he was very big on saying he was the best at everything, even the fact that he seemed to think he was the best made you take him less seriously. He was a master at hiding his thoughts.
"Brina-Berry-Scary we are gonna be late for school!" Puck shouted, grabbing her backpack. He didn't have one, since he so rarely actually did any work. Since he had already learned everything and then some in his years of living, he still managed to get decent grades, which annoyed the teachers to no end.
Walking to school, Daphne and her friend, Red, who also walked with the trio, talked quietly behind a ways as Sabrina and Puck stayed in front of them, walking next to each other.
Sabrina and Puck chatted about fall, and school, and weather or not peppermint was a good addition to hot chocolate. Sabrina loved it, but Puck said it made it taste like toothpaste. He is more of a marshmallow and whipped cream type. As they're conversation floated easily back and forth, the two teens almost ran into two boys on Puck's soccer team who were waiting for them by the school.
One was Will, a blond with blue eyes who was looking over Sabrina, and the other was Elec, a black-haired boy who was also quite obviously checking Sabrina out, which was not uncommon of the males in their school. Puck slipped her backpack off of his shoulders and gave it back to her.
"Thanks, I forgot you had that," Sabrina said.
"Good thing you have my superior mind to remember it for you, Cow-face."
Will stepped closer to Sabrina. "So, Sabrina, I was wondering if you wanted to get an ice cream or something after school. Vanilla for you and chocolate for me?" He asked this in a suggestive tone that made Puck bristle next to Sabrina.
"She likes strawberry, dummy. And milkshakes more than ice cream. How about I'll meet up with you before practice today and we can talk about something instead." Puck said all of this in a tone as cold and flat as ice, leaving no room for the other boy to refuse without looking like he was scared.
"Yeah, sure Puck. I'll catch up with you later, Sabrina," Will said. As the pair left, Elec brushed against Sabrina enough that she could feel the heat radiating from his muscles.
Sabrina turned to Puck and bit her lip. "You know I could've said no myself? And how did you know all that about my favorite flavor?"
Puck stretched his back and grinned, pressing Sabrina against the column behind her, out of sight of the teachers milling about for this exact reason. "I know you could've said no, but where's the fun in that? Now I get to scare the living daylights out of him after school so he never bothers you again. And your favorite flavor? You always order strawberry when we go out for dinner at Blue Plate."
Sabrina was sick of leaning against walls when Puck was concerned. He was so pushy! And she was not the type of girl to be pushed around. Straightening her back so that she was pressed into Puck's body, she whispered in his ear, "And why is it that you pay attention? Does someone have a crush? I guess I'll be the one warding you off, not the other way around."
Puck sucked in a breath, his body hard and rigid against Sabrina's. To her surprise, he didn't back down. He wrapped his arm that was not leaning against the wall around her waist, closing any semblance of distance between them. Sabrina could feel his heartbeat and practically trace his abs. "I'd say you like that I pay attention. Were you trying to hide your smile? I mean I know that you like me, but I just remembered a drink order. Doesn't mean I like you back, Brina. I'll see you next period."
With that Puck walked off, leaving Sabrina flushed, her anger simmering beneath the surface. That boy made her crazy, and she couldn't decide whether or not she wanted him to kiss her…
Sabrina shook her head and walked to her first period, clearing her thoughts. When she entered the classroom, however, Puck was already there, and Thalia and her friend Amber were draped over his desk, laughing at something he said while not so subtly flirting. Amber was taller than Sabrina by a half of a head, and had long wavy hair and long tan legs that she was using to their full effect on Puck.
People stared at Puck at school. Girls, mostly with longing, and boys with a mixture of jealousy and awe. It was something about him, something undefinable strange, a trace of the wilderness and Fey that never failed to make Sabrina think of untrammeled, wide-open spaces, of freedom and lawlessness. I am a lost boy, his mischievous green eyes seemed to say. Come find me.
The two girls currently draped over Puck spotted her and practically snarled. Sabrina walked over and sat in her assigned seat in front of Puck, her spine straight as an arrow.
"And there's Sabrina Grimm. You always have the funniest nicknames for her, Robin," Amber said. "Last time it was Sabby So Small, right?" She let out another annoying laugh. "She does look little. Not at all like a normal fifteen year old."
Sabrina turned with fire in her eyes. She knew she was short, but her curves were all there, and she didn't look a bit undergae. "Wow, that's the best you can come up with? Making fun of my height. Really original. Although, I guess I can't expect much more from someone who thinks it's appropriate to wear a miniskirt when it's sixty degrees outside."
Puck bit back a smile while Amber, looking outraged and embarrassed, slid back to her own seat and off of Puck's desk. Thalia, to Sabrina's surprise, popped off of Puck's desk and plopped down next to Sabrina, as if the were friends!
"Amber is totally fashionably retarded. It's freezing! I love the retro look you have going on though."
Sabrina looked at Thalia like she had grown two heads. "Thanks."
Thalia leaned towards Sabrina conspiratorially, "And I know I'm not the only one digging it. I heard that Elec was interested. Isn't he just the hottest thing you've seen?"
Puck cleared his throat, leaning forward nonchalantly, as if he wasn't eavesdropping. In reality, he was freaking out at the thought that Sabrina might like Elec, or think he's hot. He felt a tightness in his chest at the thought of Sabrina and Elec together.
Sabrina, seeing Puck looking like he was about to choke, saw it as a perfect opportunity for a little revenge. "Yeah, have you seen his body? His abs are insane. I love his hair too. Dark and brooding, just my type." The blonde could barely hold back her laughter as she watched Puck's face turn about seven shades of purple and blue as she divulged her 'crush' to Thalia.
Thalia smiled brightly. "Perfect, so I'll set you guys up! Nice chat, Sabrina." She stood and trailed her long fingers over Puck's desk as she passed by. "See ya, Puck."
A/N I'm so sorry it's taking so long! School has been busy and I want to get all the chapters right, so I edit it about a hundred times. The beginning of this was a little hard, with Basil and all. Remember to review my loves! ;)
