Move Along

Chapter 015

She should have just gone to a teacher, Haruhi told herself again for the millionth time. Things probably would have been less chaotic if she had done so.

Their plan ended up much like the physical exam one (not that she really should have expected anything else). Honey-senpai had just sort of stood in the background, making stern yet adorable comments. The twins openly threatened the baseball players (and she was glad that they didn't know the whole story or they really would have been mad), and proceeded to thoroughly humiliate Akiyama (apparently there was some history there). And Tamaki made a spectacle of himself resulting in him sulking in the corner, growing mushrooms. All while Kyoya resolved everything with a few coolly, veiled threats, as usual.

Though Honey-senpai did have to restrain Akiyama in the end. He hadn't taken too kindly to the threats, especially the prospect of having to apologize to Kagome-kun.

When everything was said and done, Akiyama had been dumped into the fountain, and Haruhi could not find Kagome anywhere. Mori wasn't sure where he had gone either. He had simply taken off after the surprise apologies.

Sighing, she continued her slow trudge home, feeling oddly disappointed. She hoped that Kagome wasn't too mad at her, she understood that maybe he preferred to do things on his own terms. And she should have respected that, being fiercely independent herself.

Catching site of her apartment in the distance, Haruhi was not expecting Kagome to be sitting on the steps of the stairs.

She paused at the end of the steps, looking up at the older boy. "Oh."

Kagome smiled and met her at the bottom.

"Sorry I left so abruptly. I just needed some time to clear my head," she said, rubbing the back of her head nervously.

"N-no, I should be the one apologizing."

Kagome blinked owlishly, confused. "For what?"

Feeling uncharacteristically shy, Haruhi nervously fiddled with her bag as she answered, "I just, wanted to repay my debt to you Kagome-kun."

Kagome surprised the younger girl by suddenly pulling her into her grip. Arms wrapped around her and it took her a moment to realize she was being hugged.

"Just, thank you Haruhi. I owe you a much bigger debt than you've ever owed me," Kagome quietly spoke as she released the younger girl from her grasp.

Beet red, Haruhi mumbled, "It isn't that big of a deal Kagome-kun."
