Kiss of Death Chapter 11

"After Life"

A/N: Hey, I know there are people who nagged about the lack of CoAi scenes, but there needs to be a slow built-up on the romance if I want to keep it relevant to the Black Organization.

Previously... While on the process of solving the peculiar case, Tyler, the grandson of the owner of the Moriarty school gets kidnapped! By who? Can Conan save him?

Conan ran as fast as he could. He fumbled with the detective badge, crying out, "Tyler! Oi! Answer me!"

But there was no answer.

Damn it! Why do people always get in trouble the moment I leave them?

"Wait! Kudo!" Heiji called out, tailing behind him. Conan reached the entrance of the Shangri-La Tokyo Hotel, in time to see the rental vehicle that Tyler was in speeding off fast. Regardless, Conan chased after it.

At this rate, the gap between me and the car will lengthen. If only I can drive something-

"Ah, Shinichi!" Agasa called out as Conan dashed past him, "I was on the way home from convention and I got your skateboard all fixed!"

"Hakase! Then I'm taking this!" Conan yelled, snatching the skateboard away.

"Wait! Shinichi!-"

But it was too late. The boy with spectacles sped off with his skateboard, the chase still on his mind.

"Hakase!" Heiji called out, breathlessly panting for air. He was unable to catch up with the young detective.

"Ah, Heiji-kun," Agasa greeted him, "Shinichi-kun was in a hurry and took his skateboard. I didn't get to tell him that the skateboard may have effects after using it for a while! You know him, he gets very hasty when it comes to cases." The old man chuckled.

"Hakase, someone kidnapped Tyler. Kudo's after him right now. Do you happen to have your car around here?" Heiji asked.

"Alright, follow me."

As Conan used the skateboard, he was beginning to see the rental car again. He felt his phone buzzing on his pocket and sees Heiji's name on the screen.

"Hattori!" he said, almost screaming on the device, "I'm tailing the car right now. Where are you?"

"I'm in Hakase's car right now. Just keep following the car."

"Alright, we're under the nearby overhead bridge, drive at the alternate towards the junction. We'll corner him from there."

Yosh! Once Hattori is at the junction and make the car stop, I'll catch up to the driver and use my stun gun to knock him out.

Conan continued to follow the car until he was only several meters away from it. He used his elastic belt and attached itself to the car, so that he will not lose sight of it.

However, this did not go unnoticed. Gin always had an eye for detail.

I'm not sure why the boss wanted the grandchild of the Moriarty Academy's founder, but I guess I have to follow orders. If this goes well smoothly, I reclaim Anakota's trust. Wait, what the-

Gin's thoughts halted upon noticing a bespectacled boy on a speedy skateboard by the rearview mirror. He was even more surprised when he noticed an elastic belt attached to the car and the teen chasing him. He clicked his teeth in annoyance.

Who is this brat? Probably one of the boy's friends. The last thing I want is some disturbance.

To shake the chaser off, he started to maneuver the car in a wayward manner. Yet, the pursuer was persistent, being nimble in his skateboard to avoid other civilians and objects obstructing his path. The pedestrians were left in disbelief at the scene, as the screeching of the tires and the shrunken detective's skateboard engine were attracting their attention. There were a few gasps from women in particular that even got more attention, as other pairs of eyes stopped to check out what the calamity was.

Man, you're starting to get on my nerves. I really wanted to stay lowkey, but you're already starting up a commotion. Guess it won't hurt if a dead body appears.

Gin, in his fury, took out his gun. Leaving his dominant left hand to handle the wheel, he popped out his head out of the window with a gun on his other hand, ready to fire. Conan widened his eyes for a little while, but regained his composure. The syndicate member fired at him, but the detective dodged it effortlessly with a shift in his skateboard.

You're such a nuisance!

Gin, now his anger being doubled, started to fire multiple shots at the boy with spectacles. Conan avoided the bullets again, but there were too many to handle. A bullet was targeted at his face, which he luckily managed to get away from. It only grazed his cheek, a trickle of blood trailing from the cut. The civilians who were already spectating watched in horror, as the sound of the weapon added to the choir of the chaos. The bullets certainly didn't disappear, getting to hit two people watching the unbelievable scene unfolding before them. One old man was shot at the knee, another young man was shot on his arm. Ear-splitting screams followed, as the rest started to clamber away from the speeding car and the other half crowded around the injured. Seeing that he was just wasting bullets, Gin switched his aim and fired at the elastic belt instead. One of those aims hit it successfully, the elastic belt was now half-baked destroyed, its attachment to the car weak and left flailing. This almost threw Conan off balanced.

Shit, this is getting bad! One more shot at the belt and I'll lose the chase. Just a few more to the junction. Just you wait, Gin. I won't let you get away this time!

Meanwhile, the sound of the gun awake Tyler, who had been knocked out of the backseat.

Where am I? Oh yeah. Someone got me unconscious and that must be the driver. I can't get noticed that I'm awake. Is that, a gun?

At the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of Conan via the rearview mirror.

What the? How is the four-eyed dude doing that? Moreover, how am I supposed to get out of here?

Tyler noticed a yellow beetle car approaching as the rental car neared the junction.

Isn't that the guy Conan was with? Either way I should signal to them.

The boy in the rental car fumbled on his pockets, searching for an item that could be of use.

Oh yeah! I can use my laser light and just point it at them.

"Alright now, Hakase, we're at the junction. Just drive infront of the rental car," Heiji instructed.

"Wait! Heiji-kun!" Agasa exclaimed as he handled the wheel, distracted by the green spot of light shining on the wheel. Both of them turned towards its source and found Tyler peering through the car window.

The Great Detective of the West did a hand signal to Tyler for him to open the car door and hop on their car at the right time. He then turned to Agasa, who was perspiring profusely at the risky situation they were in, "Hakase! Change of plans! Drive as close to the rental car as possible. We're gonna have to ask the kid to jump."

"What?"

The aged professor hesitated for a moment, but shook his head. He had no choice but to give the benefit of the doubt to Heiji. The detective and Tyler open the respective doors.

"Now jump!" Heiji screamed but his voice was being silenced by the overwhelming wind blowing horizontally. Tyler, having the fear of falling, shook his head in refusal.

"What are you doing? Go!" the adult yelled louder. Tyler knew it was now or never. Mustering his courage, he leapt from the car to the other, his self barely making it inside the car. He was starting to slip and stumble backwards!

"Gotcha-!" Heiji said as he gripped the teen and pulled him back in. He closed the door while Agasa moved his car away from the other car.

Of course, the mission wasn't over.

The man donned in black, having to be distracted by Conan, barely had time to stop the other teen from jumping away. He was taken by surprise when there was a secondary help coming. He started to fire the gun at their direction. The 3 males in the beetle car crouched low in response. "We have to get out of here!" Agasa said, frightened.

"Hello? Kudo?" Heiji contacted him through his phone, "we've got Tyler, but the culprit started to shoot at us."

"Then get out of there. Leave the rest to me," Conan replied.

"But the man has a gun," Heiji said, the reluctance in him was evident.

"Just tell Hakase to make a U-turn! You wouldn't want Hakase and the kid to get hurt, wouldn't you?" the voice on the other line yelled.

The detective from Osaka gritted his teeth. "Kudo you're making me feel like a piece of shit. Make sure you're alive after this!" Heiji scorned, but deep down he was concerned for the shrunken detective.

"Hakase, you heard the idiot."

Agasa made a U-turn. They watched Conan tailing the rental car still.

Alright, now that Tyler's safe, there's no need to corner him. I'll just use my explosive soccer ball and aim it at the front of the rental car so that Gin will slow down. Then, I'll speed ahead and knock him out with my tranquilizer.

Conan tampered with his shoe and pushed his belt button to release a soccer ball. "This better work. Go!" he said as he placed the ball up in the air and kicked it as hard as he could. The ball swerved with such great force, flying past the rental car.

"What the?" Gin gasped in disbelief. Throughout his mafia-led life, he had never seen anyone used a mere soccer ball as a weapon. He watched the ball land just a good distance before him and it exploded, causing a cloud of thick smoke to emit in the air. He halted the car, having his sight blurred out due to the smoke-bomb. He panicked a little, but mentally slapped himself to composure and reminding himself that he was up against a teen after all.

He gotta be here somewhere.

Gin scanned the outer surroundings, looking for signs of movement. The engine sound of the skateboard drew closer. He raised his gun, reading to aim. "Found you!" he chuckled, having to spot Conan's strand of hair. He aimed at his forehead and exhaled a heap of air, clearing the smoke.

Their eyes met.

Gin gave his coldest glare, but it didn't affect Conan at all. He frowned at the sight of the syndicate and gave a stern look. Gin was taken-aback by the boy's somberness. Man, if stares could murder, Gin would've probably drop dead by now. He spotted the boy holding his wrist-watch in a peculiar manner. Figuring out that it was another device of his, he quickly switched his aim to Conan's wrist and fired. The boy yelped, having his wrist shot and disabled his watch.

I did not see that coming. Now my watch's gone. How do I stop Gin?

But the shrunken detective's pondering was cut short.

BANG-!

Gin fired another shot at one of the wheels in his skateboard. Conan fumbled as the skateboard skittered in a zigzag fashion. Gin fired at another wheel that tossed Conan in the air. He tumbled on the road with a loud thud, his arm skidding on the rough ground. The friction caused him to bleed profusely. The ache on his brain made Conan difficult to stand up. He heard the car door open. Though his vision was blurred, he could see a pair of shoes coming towards him. One of the shoes sandwiched Conan's head between itself and the ground, preventing the detective to stand up.

Gin held his gun at Conan's head. He glared at the younger boy, definitely annoyed and stomped his foot on his head, but not hard enough to crush the boy's skull.

This piece of shit. This kid ruined my mission. I want to beat the shit out of him.

"Who the hell are you? Why do you have gadgets that young teens aren't supposed to have?" Gin questioned him.

"Answer me-!"

Conan tried his best to regain his focus. He remained silent. "You don't know how much I want to punch a hole through your head and send you to hell," Gin growled menacingly, furious, "any last words?"

"Is there even an afterlife for crooks like you?"
