Move Along

Chapter 034

She was skipping out on the club meeting when she ran into Kaoru, or rather the pink haired idiot ran into her. She was knocked down to the ground and he still hadn't noticed her until she yelled, "Watch where you're going!"

"Oh, Higurashi. Didn't see you there," he spoke, offering her a hand up. Kagome took it and flicked him on the forehead.

"Hey, what was that for," he complained. She rolled her eyes in irritation and said, "That's for causing everyone so much trouble."

He shrugged his shoulders and honestly said, "Didn't think you'd care."

"Well you and your brother can be a pain. Especially since I know he still hates that I'm part of the club," Kagome replied as she folded her arms and leaned against the wall.

"He's just jealous," he replied without thinking.

"It better be worth it, whatever you guys are planning," Kagome said. Kaoru denied her claims, "We're not planning anything."

She ignored his lie and cut deeper to the issue. "But there's more to it though, right? Whatever silly game you're playing is starting to eat at you."

"I don't know-," he tried to refute before she cut him off. Grabbing his tie, she pulled him closer so that they were eye to eye. "Cut the crap."

"It's just, nobody can tell us apart," he reluctantly admitted. And Kagome hated how it struck a cord with her. She released the boy's tie and looked out the window.

Kaoru was about to take off, figuring that was the end of the conversation until the second year spoke.

"There was this gi-guy, back in middle school…He was a distant relative," Kagome slowly began to explain, doing her best to cover her tracks. "It was weird how much we looked alike."

Whatever he had been expecting, Kaoru hadn't expected Kagome to open up so much. He was friendly sure, but distant as well. So he patiently waited for him to continue.

"I was mistaken for him constantly. And people expected me to be just like him," Kagome sadly said before suddenly smiling and pushing herself away from the wall. "But that didn't matter. Because no matter how alike we were, we are different people. I'm Kagome just like you will always be Kaoru."

Kaoru didn't know how to reply to that. And so he just watched as Kagome walked away, a faint smile tugging at his lips.
