Move Along
Chapter 041
The old half-demon watched as Kagome diligently closed out of his account on the laptop. She had been a big help with the seminar; her presence had always been soothing to him. But as she hummed happily completing the mundane task, he couldn't help but note her sudden change.
"You seem…in a better mood these days," Jinenji commented, choosing his words carefully. Kagome shrugged, not bothering to reply. Instead she focused on packing up Jinenji's laptop.
He sighed tiredly and changed the subject. "How are you doing in school?"
"It's been pretty tough, but nobody suspects a thing. I'm definitely going to win the bet," She boasted, though honestly she didn't know whether she should feel insulted or not. Nobody suspected she was a girl, and it wasn't like she was completely flat like Haruhi.
"I didn't ask about the bet."
Kagome blinked owlishly in confusion and slowly replied, "I guess alright. I've been going to tutoring to get my math grade up. But other than that, I'm passing all my classes."
"Any new friends," he inquired curiously. Everyone knew about her friendship with Fujioka, and he was curious to know if she was opening up to anyone else.
She thought about the Host Club for a moment before shaking her head. "Not really."
Jinenji smiled softly, she always was a terrible liar.
"Higurashi, I didn't expect to see you here."
Kagome froze and looked up and glared at the newcomer. "Ootori, neither did I. But your family does run a medical supply company, right?"
"Correct, my father sent me in his stead," he coolly replied.
Jinenji placed a hand on her shoulder and looked curiously between her and the other boy. "Oh, right. This is a classmate of mine, Ootori Kyoya. Ootori, this is Egawa Jinenji."
Kyoya bowed politely and said, "Egawa-san, it's an honor. I didn't know you were acquainted with Higurashi."
Jinenji nodded proudly. "Kagome here is my assistant."
"Really," Kyoya said in disbelief, raising an eyebrow curiously. His father had informed him that his assistant was a female, though Higurashi was rather feminine looking. But his father didn't make simple mistakes.
Kagome rolled her eyes and snapped, "Yes really."
Jinenji ignored her callous attitude and asked, "We were just about to have some lunch. Would you like to join us?"
Kagome glared at Jineji.
"I would love to."
She then turned her glare towards Kyoya.
"Great. Shippo said he'd meet us at the restaurant," the half-demon happily stated, clapping his hands together.
"Damn it."
