Move Along
Chapter 050
Kagome wasn't sure if she should be concerned or not about the Host Club offering to take her brother home. Though he had promised not to let anything slip, she was still weary. And she had good reason to be, for as soon as she led the Host Club back to the main room, Shippo had been there talking to Kyoya. Who knew what the fox had let slip.
"You have some interesting friends," the older demon commented once the pair were alone in the apartment. Kagome shrugged and moved to go to her room. But Shippo reached out and grabbed her arm, stopping her. "Let's go grab something to eat."
She looked at him, trying to read his intent. She was weary about what Kyoya may have said or that he knew about the Host Club.
"C'mon," he persisted. "It's been a while since it's just been the two of us."
"Alright then," she hesitantly agreed. The two left the apartment and walked in a awkward silence for the next couple of blocks towards the restaurant. Neither were sure of what to say to the other.
Shippo sighed and gazed at Kagome from the corner of his eye, and wondered when things had gotten…so tense between them. He decided to ask about her friends, wanting to know more about what was going on in her life. "So, tell me about the Ootori boy."
"Why," she inquired, not expecting to be asked about the Shadow King. They weren't friends.
Shippo resisted the urge to roll his eyes at her, and instead said, "You two seem to be close."
"We're not close and we're not friends," Kagome denied, snorting in disbelief.
He didn't buy it, and promptly told her so. "Why tell him about InuYasha then?"
Kagome froze for a second, completely caught off guard before glaring angrily at the fox demon. She snapped, "Why were you even talking to him? Are you trying to blow my cover?"
Offended, he replied, "What, no."
"You already slipped once to Ootori," she said, crossing her arms. "Are you trying to get out of the bet?"
"No, but just forget about the bet."
"How can I? I'm going to high school as a boy because of it," she spoke.
"That was your decision," he pointed out, but it was useless.
"Like I had a choice," she spat out before stomping off. Shippo watched her go, before slumping against a nearby wall, defeated.
