The more you hide your
feelings for someone
the more you fall for them

After the whole ordeal with Garon and her diary Summer really wasn't in the mood to talk or deal with other people. Well anybody else that wasn't her best friend Serra. The two girls had been friends since they were little kids. They had first met around the age of five and have been joined at the hip ever since. Serra had been Summer's only true friend. Sure, she had people she talked to at school but none of them really counted as more than just acquaintances to her.

So, after she headed back upstairs to her room she hopped on her bed pulled out her personal scroll and called her friend. Almost immediately the other girl picked up with a huge grin on her face.

"Hey Summer, what's up baby doll?" Her soft voice said. That was one thing she had always liked about Serra how soft her voice always was. Not once had Summer ever heard her yell. Even when she was angry, which didn't happen often, she never yelled. But the use of the nickname always made her blush a little. She was always calling her things like that. Hun, Baby doll, darling, and more to that effect. Summer never knew why, and Serra never gave her the answer.

"Same as always." Summer said solemnly. At this point she had taken out a thick notebook and began writing. Her dream was to one day be a professional writer. Plus, whenever she was in a bad mood it always helped her feel better.

Serra heard her tone and knew exactly what same as always meant. "So Garon was being mean and now you're writing away your troubles."

"Yup." Summer replied sounding much like her mother when she was distracted with work.

"Still working on that medieval fantasy story?" Serra asked.

"No, I gave up on it." Summer sighed.

"Why I thought it was going good."

"It was but then it started to go downhill. The characters just weren't messing right, and the plot just got boring. I started a different one. Hopefully this one goes the way I want it to." If summer was upset over it, her voice didn't show it. She always managed to get over things fast it seemed. Well almost everything.

A long moment of silence fell between the two girls. This happened frequently when both were working on something. Neither seemed to mind or even notice it. It was a comfortable silence that came from being in the presence of someone you enjoyed being around. It was little over an hour before Summer noticed the silence and became very curious on what Serra was working on.

"Hey Serra, what are you working on?" Summer asked putting down her pencil.

"Oh I'm just drawing something." Serra didn't offer up any more information than that. Rarely did she ever summer always had to pry it out of her. It was a game she liked to play much to summer dismay.

"Wellll what is it? Can I see?" she loved looking at Serra's drawings they were amazing. So amazing in fact she had multiple hanging up in her room.

"Sure." Serra took her paper she was drawing on and flipped it around toward the camera to show summer. It was the side view of a woman's head with long flowing hair.

"Wow that's pretty. Who is it?" Summer asked. She wondered if it was actually someone or if Serra had just drawn a generic person.

"It's you silly. Here look." Serra fiddled with her scroll for a minute. Then a ding sound came out of summer's. she looked at the picture Serra had sent her. It was a picture of her walking down the sidewalk toward her house. Looking at the picture then the drawing it hit her now. The drawing was her and it was done incredibility well. It made Summer turn redder then a tomato.

"W-When did you take that picture?"

"like three weeks ago after school when we were walking to your house." Serra said.

"Why did you take it?" Summer was beyond embarrassed she normally hated photos of her and to figure out that her best friend was taking them without her realizing it.

"Cause I thought you look really good in it. I liked the way the wind was blowing your hair that day. Plus, you never let me take pictures of you normally so I gotta do it when you aren't looking." Serra smiled innocently at Summer who was now feeling like she was going to die.

"How many of those do you have?" Summer couldn't believe this.

Serra took out her phone and took a minute. It looked like she was counting. "Like Sixty something why?" Serra said it completely oblivious to how much summer was freaking out. She was acting like this was completely normal or something.

"Sixty! How long have you secretly been taking pictures of me and why?" Summer had completely forgotten about her story by now.

"Well you remember when we were at the carnival like a year ago and I wanted to take a picture of us but you refused? I wanted something to remember that night so while you were looking at all the lights on the Farris wheel I snuck a picture of you. Then I just decided to keep doing it because I wanted to." Serra said all this like it was the most causal thing in the whole world.

"Serraaaa." Summer whined loudly. She was so far beyond embarrassed now she just wanted to curl up and disappear.

"Summeeeeer." Serra said mimicking her best friends voice. That was one thing about Serra she loved to tease and torture Summer. Why Summer continued to endure this type of punishment for all these years she'll never really know. Summer buried her face in her pillow and mumbled something that Serra couldn't quite make out.

"What was that now Darling?" Serra teased.

"Why do you always gotta be like this." It was more of a statement then a question, but Serra felt ever so inclined to give her an answer.

"Because it's fun. Plus, you wouldn't have me any other way now would you girl?"

It was true. Summer loved Serra for how different she was. She was always outgoing and upbeat. Most of the time if they ever hung out she took most of the attention allowing Summer to go mostly unnoticed. In crowded areas this was a blessing for summer considering how poorly she did with people.

Summer was about to reply to her friend when there was a soft knock at her door. Ruby walked into the room without waiting for summer to reply. It was a small annoyance how both her parents always did that, but they did own the house so Summer always kept it to herself.

"Hang on Serra Mom's home." She tapped at her scroll to mute it then jumped up to give Ruby a hug.

"Well now only if your brother was that excited to see me too." Ruby said reciprocating the hug joyfully.

"What's up Momma?" Summer asked? It was a rare occasion that either of her mom's would pop into her room without having a reason for it.

"Just wanted to let you know that Yang and Blake are coming over for dinner Friday." Ruby smiled her big goofy smile. "Aaand Weiss is cooking."

"Really? Yes, I love it when mom cooks!" Summer exclaimed. A rare outburst for the child but one that always put a huge smile on Ruby's face.

"Yes, I do too. Now I'll let you get back to doing whatever it was you were doing before I interrupted. Talking to Serra and writing I'm assuming." Ruby let out a soft chuckle when Summer nodded her head a little. "I love you Snowflake."

"I love you too Momma." She moved back to her bed and went to unmute the scroll but jumped at the sound of Serra's voice.

"So, Snowflake huh? Cute nickname Summer. Kinda ironic don't you think considering your name is the complete opposite season and all." Serra giggled. "Hey, wait how come I've known you all these years and that's the first time I've ever heard that nickname?"

"Oh no you heard that? I thought I had it muted." Summer groaned and fell back onto her bed. "You haven't heard it because I've been careful to hide it all these years. It's embarrassing."

"Well I think it's cute." Serra had that grin on her face. The one that told summer this was not going to be let go any time soon if ever.

"Please do not go around school calling me that I don't want it catching on." Summer was almost begging her best friend at this point.

"Whatever you say… Snowflake." Serra said laughing.

"Serra. Please." It was a cry for help at this point. One that she knew was going to go completely unanswered.

"What you said not at school so if it's just the two of us its perfectly okay right? Plus I actually really like it." Serra had stopped laughing and her voice took on a bit of a serious and reassuring tone.

"Wait you actually like it?" Summer asked hiding her face so Serra couldn't see the blush forming on her cheeks.

"Yeah I do. It fits you at least in my opinion."

"Well I guess if it stays between the two of us then it'll be fine." Summer finally said reluctantly.

Great! Hey Summer, I gotta go eat I'll talk to you a little later okay?"

Summer nodded her silent goodbye to Serra, But Serra couldn't resist one final tease at summers expense.

"See ya Snowflake." She said putting heavy emphasis on snowflake.

After the call dropped Summer laid down on her bed trying to rid the huge blush she knew was there. What was she going to do now that Serra was going to be calling her by her snowflake all the time now. This is exactly why she wanted Ruby and Weiss to stop calling her that. This was going to be so embarrassing from now on. Then she thought maybe it won't be so bad having Serra call her by her child hood name.

At this thought summer got even redder and she covered her face with her hands.

"You're absolutely hopeless Summer you know that." She quietly whispered to herself.

Garon Schnee

After Garon was given permission to leave he almost immediately bolted out the door. Luckily, he remembered to go upstairs change and grab his scroll and phone first. It didn't take him long to get to Cassy's house after he left. It was only about a ten-minute walk from the Schnee and Rose house to Cassy's.

When he arrived he stopped a moment to look at the house. It wasn't nearly as big as his. It was a single floor with two bedrooms and one bathroom. It wasn't nearly as well kept as his either. The outside was a dark beige color. Though Garon hand always guessed its original color was white. Many times he offered to clean it for them. Well get someone to clean it for them. No matter how many times he tried they always refused. They said it gave the house character. Despite all this Garon actually enjoyed Cassy's house quite a lot. Whenever he walked inside he could practically see the whole thing from the front door. It gave it a very homely feeling.

He took a deep breath before knocking on the front door. He could hear the thumping of footsteps coming from the other side. It wasn't a moment before his best friend Cassy opened the door. She stood slightly taller then him, much to his annoyance, even with her barefoot and him in boots. Her short brown hair fell just past her chin and matched her dark brown eyes. She wore a loose tank top and shorts that in Garson's opinion were a bit too short. Not that he was complaining really it just seemed like something you shouldn't go out in.

Immediately Cassy's face light up when she saw Garon at her front door. She was surprised because he hadn't texted her. Not that he normally does he just kind of showed up whenever he felt like. Cassy really didn't even know why he bothered knocking anymore.

"Hey Garon, come on in" She seemed extra chipper today which had Garon raising an eyebrow. He had gotten about two steps into the door when he heard a very stern voice behind him.

"Garon." Cassy said with her hands on her hips. Right he almost completely forgot. In the Olkin household there was a strict no shoe policy inside the house. He never really understood why but he wasn't going to be disrespectful and ignore it. So, he bent down and began to start untying his boots.

"Still wearing them old torn up boots I see." A large grinned spread across Cassy's face. One of her favorite past times was picking on Garon in just about any way she could.

"Ugh you're starting to sound like Mom." Garon replied as he kicked off his boots and turned to face his friend. Once again irritated at the height difference was even more exaggerated.

"Which one? Weiss or Ruby?" she had to ask as for most people outside of their family never knew which mom they referred to. Normally to anyone inside the family they could tell just by the tone when they said mom.

"Weiss. She wont stopped bugging me about them." He sighed slightly. "It's an everyday thing now."

"Well maybe I should get with her one day and together we might be able to figure out a way to get you out of those darn things."

"Well I highly doubt that." The two shared a laugh. Cassy knew that was all to true. As long as she had known him he had be as stubborn as a bull. Must have gotten it from Weiss.

"come on I want to show you something in my room." Not giving Garon a chance to reply she grabbed his hand a yanked him forward to her room. When they entered she jumped into the computer chair in front of her desk.

The computer on the desk looked like it had a couple schematics pulled up on it. It was a weapon schematic. Garon examined them and to his surprise they were fairly simple. Just two katana type blades. The only note worthy thing about them was on both blades was a color twisting up it. One had blue the other red. He raised and eyebrow at his friend.

"I'm a dust user Garon. I don't need some crazy multifunction gadget like I know you are designing. See look this blade is infused with fire and the second ice. I can use them separately or join them at the hilt and use them together." She looked up at him expectantly silently asking what he thought of them.

"Right forgot you're a huge dust fan. Well they aren't my style but if you are happy with them by all means. Just aren't dust infused weapons kinda pricey to make?" Garon knew the answer to this already. He was more so asking Cassy how she was going to afford them. Cassy rubbed the back of her neck and looked back over to the computer with a frown on her face.

"Yeah. I'm getting a job this summer to help pay for them. Still don't know if that will be enough though. I haven't gotten an estimate on them yet." She kind of slumped in her chair. Cassy gave Garon a glance and saw the look on his face. "Oh no Gar don't even offer to pay for them it's not gonna happen."

"Come on Cass why not you know mom loves you and would have no problem helping you with this. Especially since that its for you to become a huntress." Garon offered but he already knew how Cassy was going to reply. It was the same every single time.

"No absolutely not. I have to do this on my own. Plus, it wouldn't feel right taking that much from your family with nothing to offer in return." She spun in her sit to face the computer again. No doubt wondering how much her new weapons would be. Why did his friend have to be so stubborn sometimes? Honestly to the Schnees the cost of those weapons would be nothing and it would be a much better use of the money than wasting it on some bad idea Garon would undoubtedly come up with in the near future.

"Cass…" Garon began but was quickly cut off by Cassy.

"I said no Gar." She shot him an icy look. One that reminded him of Weiss when she was angry. It sent a shiver down his spine. He hated that look. Hated it even more when it came from his best friend.

"Alright alright ill drop it. Just know the offer stands if you got no other choice." He sighed lightly. "Quit with the stare you remind me of Weiss when I piss her off."

Cass shot him another glare but now for a completely different reason. Standing up she walked over to her friend and flicked him hard on the forehead. "Language Gar."

"What all I said was piss that's not a bad word." That earned him another hard flick.

"Its not nice either." With a slight huff she sat back down and smiled when she saw her friend rub his forehead angerly. His face marked with a deep frown. She laughed at him a little which only made him frown harder.

"What's it matter what I say anyway?" he replied once the pain of his forehead went away.

"Because I don't like it when you use bad language." It wasn't really an explanation that Garon considered good enough, but he let it go. If he started an argument he knew just which way it would go.

"So, Gar tell me how your weapon is coming along?" She knew how Garon could be. He absolutely loved weapons, but he could be incredibly lazy sometimes. She highly doubted it was finished yet.

"Well I got it mostly done. I just need Ruby to look over it for me." He sounded kind of sheepish in his answer which in turn made Cassy suspicious.

"what type of weapon did you create?" She stood out of her chair, so she could look directly into his eyes.

"Well. It may or may not be a scythe." He turned his face away from Cassy. He knew she was against the idea of him becoming a scythe wielder. It was a very dangerous weapon with an even more dangerous fighting style that involved rushing more offend then not right into danger.

"Wait what? Weiss actually let you make one?" Cassy was surprised. The last time she had heard it was a definite no on the whole scythe idea. Something she was very happy about.

"Yeah it'll be a lot like moms except with a few extra bits to it."

"What does a few extra bits include." She crossed her arm. This wasn't going to be good.

"A larger blade."

"What?"

"a more high-powered sniper."

"What?"

"And possibly a flame thrower."

"WHAT?"

Cassy grabbed Garon pinning him to the wall. "Are you insane you are gonna kill yourself with that." Seriously, A flame thrower? Out of all the dumb ideas he's ever had over the years this was by far the worse she had ever heard from the boy.

"Cassy please let me go. Ill be fine." He struggled to get out of her grasp, but it was no use. She was bigger and stronger then him.

"Take away the flame thrower." Cassy hadn't asked. She demanded.

"Why?" Garon asked. The flamer thrower was a good idea after all. At least to him it was. Think of all the cool stuff her could do with it.

"Take. It. Away." She punctuated every word to make her point more prevalent. She would not allow this foolish boy to kill himself because of this ridiculous idea.

Garon sighed deeply. He really liked the flame thrower, but he also didn't want to Cassy to be mad at him over something like this. Sometimes this was hard. Swallowing what little pride was left he raised his hands in surrender.

"Alright ill remove it jeez." He shrugged Cassy off of him. Reaching into his pocket he pulled out his phone. A message from Weiss saying Ruby was home displayed on the screen. "Gotta go Ruby's home." He pushed past Cassy and left without another word.

Cassy thought about chasing Garon but from the years of knowing him she knew it wouldn't help any. In times like this it was best to leave him alone. Let him cool down on his own then try to talk to him. Any other attempt to talk to him would just make things worse than they already were. Cassy collapsed into her chair and looked sadly at the door where Garon had exited.

"You stupid foolish boy. Don't you know I just care about you." Cassy whispered to herself as a tear fell down her face.

Garon pushed his way into his house ignoring the worried glances of Wiess and ruby. He made a beeline for the stairs trying to get there before either of them could question why he was in such a bad mood. It didn't work however. Halfway up the steps he heard ruby call to him.

"Hey Garon didn't you want me to look at your scythe?" She asked trying to stop him from his ascent up the stairs.

"No. Gotta change it again." He said with out stopping. He disappeared up the stairs and a moment later the distinct sound of his door opening then closing much harder then it should have could be heard.

Garon had a very specific way of handling things. When he got in trouble at home he went to Cassy's. when he got in trouble at school he went to the park, mostly to avoid his parents. When him and Cassy got into an argument he always came home with the same sour look on his face and delved into some type of work. Whether it be training or school work it really didn't matter. Just something to take his mind of what had happened.

Weiss and ruby shared a glance and without words knew exactly what had happened. Ruby wasn't going to just simply let this one go however. She marched up the stairs to Garon's room and knocked on his door.

"No." was Garon's only reply.

"Yes." Ruby said entering the room. It was often that she was stern but when she was she could be worse then Weiss. In rare times Garon had seen a fury in her eyes that scared him far worse then anything else he had seen before. He didn't know where it came from, but he never wanted to see it again.

Ruby looked over at Garon's computer. Weapon schematics were pulled up and she noticed half of them were torn apart. He was changing his design, but the big question was why.

"What happen Garon thought you were pretty set on what you had before?" Ruby aske curiously. She examined the designs. They were very similar to hers except for a few things. The larger blade she noticed first followed by the flame thrower. Wait a flame thrower?

"A flame thrower? Why didn't I think of that its awesome." She said with a smile on her face.

"Well not everyone is a fan." His voice sounded distant. Like he was replying a memory in his head as he stared at the computer.

Ah, so that's what this was all about. Over protective Cassy must have got onto him about how ridiculous the design was and now he was forced to change it. Well forced wasn't the right word, but when it came to Garon and Cassy it might as well have been. He listened to her better then he did his parents.

"Cassy?" Ruby asked pointedly.

"Yeah she wasn't a fan." She grumbled crossing his arms. Surely silently cursing in his head.

"So, you gonna remove it then?"

"Yeah. Now can I please be alone. I got work to do." He turned back to the computer and started messing with his weapon again. Clearly no longer in the mood for conversation.

"Yes, you may." Ruby excited the room and closed the door behind her with a small grin. She would have to remember to think her sons best friend for talking some since into the kid. "Why won't you two just admit how much you like each other." She said with a slight chuckle and shake of her head.
