A/N: Sorry it took so long to get back to this. I've had a lot on my plate lately and have been having a hard time getting around to Warriors as I get older. That aside, I hope you all enjoy the next chapter of Elemental Clan.
Hidden Powers
Light flashed in Rainshadow's eyes. What was that? She wondered as she looked around, trying to glimpse it again. Her eyes passed over an odd lump. It moved, dragging her eyes back. It lifted and became a shining cat that launched itself at her.
Rainshadow woke up gasping. That was a strange dream. She shook herself, trying to clear it from her mind, but it clung tightly, only retreating to the dark edges. Rainshadow sighed. Good enough, she thought.
The sun was creeping its way over the horizon, so Rainshadow got up off the ground and went hunting. She caught a mouse and started burying it before she remembered she didn't have anyone to take it back to. A depressing, yet thrilling thought. Freedom. She ate her mouse and proceeded to explore the island that once was sacred among the clans. Hidden in a small cove, she discovered the entrance to a tunnel that she decided to check out.
Inside of the tunnel, another thrill went through her. Somehow, Rainshadow knew she was the first cat to set paw in the tunnel. Cautiously, she continued forward, eyes wide in the dimness, ears pricked for danger. At the far end, she saw a dim light and headed toward it, noticing how the ground tilted down. As she got closer, she heard the gentle, steady trickle of water over rocks. She opened her mouth slightly and breathed in, letting the scents of the tunnel flood her glands. Shock forced her mouth shut on the flavor of fire. Curious, but even more cautious, she crept onward, her belly fur brushing the rock.
She stepped into a huge cave; one she could only cross in half of a day if she ran the entire time. Along the wall to her left, cracks in the wall flashed, sparked, and smoked. She'd found the source of the fire scent and decided to avoid it in every way possible. To her right, Rainshadow heard the tell-tale trickle of water and followed her ears. Stalagmites and stalactites sprouted out of the ceiling and floor, sometimes meeting, most times not. Water dripped down all of them, running into a stream on the floor. Acting on impulse, Rainshadow put her paw into the stream and gasped as what felt like electricity raced up her foreleg. Around her, the water continued to drip but started to gather into bubbles that floated around her. Panicked, she jerked her paw out of the water and the water fell to the ground. Was I… Was that me? She thought. Curious once more, she placed her paw in the water and bubbles floated back into place. Huh. I wonder… Focusing on wanting the bubbles to stay, she lifted her paw back out of the stream and… they stayed floating. Her eyes widened and she tried to manipulate them.
By the time she left the tunnel, the moon was high in the sky. She got so caught up in the fun of somehow being able to manipulate water, she didn't notice how dark it had become. She shrugged and headed to the ferns growing along the island's edge. She didn't even bother to make a bed, just circled once, laid down, and fell to sleep.
A/N: Snap, that was a short chapter. Sorry about that, guys.
