It was more than apparent that the name "Thorin Oakenshield" had not been among the choices Lila had expected to hear, as she simply stood there in absolute shock, staring at a dwarf that by all rights should have been the king of Erebor. Granted, she had never expected to hear and see a lot of things in her be more specific she had never expected to meet the very creatures from the stories she had entertained herself with as a child.
The shock of who it was that stood before her was quick to fade as the same overwhelming confusion and uncertainty she had experienced her first night quickly took its place. Though, it had been several years since the beautiful lands had entered her thoughts it had taken very little time for Lila to surmise that the energy she had felt that day in the library had transported them to Middle Earth; a land she had believed was nothing more than the product of a child's overactive imagination.
Needless to say, her disbelief had been so great that for days she had feigned ignorance while searching for her brothers, or anyone else who might have made the journey with her. It was only after she had barely escaped a pack of orcs with her life that she gradually began to accept that she had been transported to a land where she had spent a considerable amount of her childhood on several adventures; and what grand adventures they had been. Some of her fondest memories as a child (her only fond memories of her childhood really) had been spent day dreaming of the woodland realms with its grand halls carved from trees and of the iron hills and the wonders that could be found even in the darkest of places. Middle earth had been a place where she could go and feel as if she were wanted. Unlike her actual life where she was forced to stay in the shadows and hidden from the world.
—and the fact that she was here of all places did not sit well.
She had learned many years ago from Dumbledore that magic was not the mysterious entity that all believed it to be. Much like everything else in the world it too had a purpose for everything it did, and though its intention was not always obvious to those on the receiving end, there was always one to be found. It was therefore no coincidence that magic had brought her to Middle Earth of all places.
"Lila?"
Her mind registered the slight edge in Draco's voice and was quick to respond. She blinked once and then a second time for good measure. "Lila Malfoy," She bowed to the king under the mountain respectively. "At your service."
The silence that followed was defining and it was apparent by the scowl that was still etched deep into Thorin's feature that the sentiments were not returned, and that he was still wrestling with a strong desire to flay her with the sharp edge of his tongue. However, common sense seemed to prevail over any desire to tell her off, and after a few moments he nodded curtly before pushing past her.
Gandalf was quick to soothe any ruffled feathers Thorin's abrupt manner may have caused with a twinkling smile. "You will have to excuse Thorin I am afraid he is—"
Ginny cut him off, her own voice full of anger and contempt. "A bloody wanker who's lucky I haven't cursed him into oblivion." Ginny's words weren't exactly spoken quietly, and it was obvious that she could care less who heard what she had to say about the dwarf. "He's been rude, condescending, hostile, and only showed us any kind of hospitality when Harry threatened to leave."
Lila surveyed the group of people she hadn't known long –but felt as if she had known them her entire life- and could see that Ginny's sentiments were shared by all; even Lovegood, who was the most even-tempered person that Lila had met seemed to share the feelings of ill will towards Thorin.
"Yes, well—" Gandalf cleared his throat and tutted as he removed a long brown pipe from the folds of his tattered grey robes and begun to light it. "Such is the nature of dwarves." Gandalf was of course right. It was in the nature of dwarves to be stubborn and on occasion outright rude whenever they saw fit. If what she knew about Thorin was correct it wasn't at all surprising that there had been tension and problems between the two companies. The king under the mountain had seen and endured much in his life (the death of many of his people and the loss of his home) and as a result he had built an extensive wall around himself, making it exceedingly difficult to earn his trust.
Gandalf leaned on his staff and said around a plume of thick white smoke that smelled of earth and other herbs. "I do realise that your trip thus far has not been the best and that it was partly due to your situation and members of the company." He flicked a brief glance in Thorin's direction. "But your companion has been found and all is well with her."
The twinkle could once again be seen in Gandalf's cerulean blue eyes and Lila was certain she wasn't going to like what he said next. "Now you must choose whether you will continue to travel with the company as you had initially intended–and help take back the mountain- or if we are to part ways here."
Lila was right.
"YOU WERE BLOODY GOING TO DO WHAT!?"
