But Molly wasn't the only one who spent the day being emotionally tortured. So, naturally, Sherlock isn't allowed to just mumble an apology and leave.

John and Mycroft meet about Sherlock some time after the events of 4x03 The Final Problem.

Eurus taunts him and she tells him what he should have realized. Molly was never in danger. Eurus knows what's important to him. Eurus wants to hurt him as much as she can. All those little emotions—Eurus and Molly set them free. Eurus lit the spark, made Molly say them, but Molly made him realize something he can't bring himself to contemplate. Emotions are his downfall.

Sherlock was one of the most frustrating people John had ever met. He was stubborn and arrogant and far too intelligent for his own good.
