The New Girl (Chapter 2)

The new girl giggled and waved to the class. She had shoulder-length black hair, a pink, frilly dress, and a string of fake pearls around her neck.

"This is Frankie," Mr. Scott said, motioning to the girl. She pulled a pink lip gloss out of her bag and applied a fresh coat. All the girls gasped in surprise. None of them could wear lip gloss yet! How impressive!

"Why don't you take a seat by Columbia over there?" Mr. Scott said. She bounced over to her desk and sat down gracefully.

"And this, class, is Eddie." Mr. Scott announced. "He is my nephew, and he'll be joining our class from now on. I certainly hope that we all get along," he said, glaring mostly at Eddie. Eddie continued to glare at nothing in particular. He sat down on the other side of Columbia and pulled out a sheet of paper. She studied what he was drawing. His skills weren't great, but she could make out a rough outline of a motorcycle. She pulled out a piece of her own bubblegum pink paper and wrote,

"Great drawing. I like it." She dropped the folded note by his foot. He picked it up slowly, making sure that Mr. Scott was completely immersed in what he was teaching. She watched him slowly unfold the note and read it. After a moment, he scribbled a reply. He folded the note back up and attached the drawing to it. He made sure Mr. Scott wasn't looking again, and casually tossed it back to her. She opened it. Scrawled inside were the words,

"Thanks. Sorry for being so mean this morning. Hope the drawing makes up for it." Columbia felt her cheeks go red. She looked over at him. He was blushing too. When Columbia looked over, there was another folded note on her desk. She unfolded it.

"Let's hang out after school-Frankie," it read in cute, flowery letters.
