Mysterious Demon
Sesshoumaru was walking through his land, making sure all was as it should be. Beside him walked his two loyal if somewhat odd vassals, Jaken and Rin. They both were currently having one of their usual arguments on the ever popular subject of flowers are nice, vs. flowers are a waste of time. Jaken of course, had become quite adamant that Rin was wrong and would not drop the subject, even when Rin had declared that she thought him to be right.
She did in fact not think this, but at that point she simply wished to make the toad youkai silent. Sesshoumaru had thus far, been uncommonly tolerant of the small youkai's painful shouting and indignant yelling, but his patience was quickly depleting.
Another shout from the easily aggravated youkai and Sesshoumaru's tolerance was gone.
"Jaken," He said in his ever calm, and ever fear inducing voice, causing the toad to stop in mid stride as well as in mid sentence.
"Stop your yelling." Not bothering to stop and look at the fear frozen face of his vassal, and not needing to make sure he was not glaring at Rin, as he already knew full well that he was, Sesshoumaru continued to walk along the forest path and watch for signs of disturbance in his land.
"Sesshoumaru-sama," A small child's voice spoke to the side of him, the voice was well known and Sesshoumaru did not even have to look down at the girl to know who it was as well as what she wanted to ask him. He could see the shadows growing longer by the second, the sun was setting and soon it would be very dark.
Rin did not like the dark very much, she never told him why, but he believed it to be because of the wolves that attacked her. It had been a very dark forest.
"Sesshoumaru-sama, will we be staying here tonight?" Sesshoumaru scanned the area quickly, making sure that no threat was close by. He could sense two youkai near by, but they were mates and by the scent he was picking up, they were expecting. They would not bother them, they would be too concerned for they baby's safety to try and pick a fight with the Lord of the Western Lands.
"Yes, Rin." Sesshoumaru turned around to look at the toad youkai.
"Jaken." The toad wobbled over.
"Yes, my lord?" He said in his normally squeaky voice. Sesshoumaru turned his attention back towards the setting sun, seemingly staring at nothing.
"Go gather some firewood, and take Rin to find some food."
"Yes, my lord." Jaken wobbled over to Rin, took her by the hand uttered a harsh sounding "Come on!" before disappearing into the forest. Sesshoumaru sighed. Although he would never admit that he liked the company Rin and Jaken offered, he still enjoyed the peace and quiet that came with solitude.
A youkai aura reached his senses, disturbing his peace. However, the aura and the scent which came to him when the wind blew in the opposite direction, told him that the youkai was female, and very powerful. But then something else occurred to him, her scent. He could not understand what it was, her scent just seemed so... pleasing. He had never before smelled something so intoxicating. He shook his head at his thoughts. It must have been something else.
"I know you are there, come out." Sesshoumaru said as calm as ever. A moment of silence followed, before a rustle came from the bushes. A moment latter, the youkai emerged.
Her hair was a flowing silver, a mark trait of inu youkai, a thin vivid red colored head band adorned her forehead and made a small trail around her head. Her eyes were a dark green, a mark trait of neko youkai, and her shin a fine white. Her ears identical to Sesshoumaru's, telling him that she was pure blooded youkai.
Her clothes consisted of a crimson skin tight sleeveless kimono top, and a lose fit fighting haori. Her hakama was of simple design, it was lose fit and obviously made for fighting. It was black with one unusual characteristic. Three small green emeralds were sewn onto the waist line. Unlike most youkai, she was wearing shoes. They resembled Sesshoumaru's but were charcoal gray. And a gold rimed sword at her hip completed her outfit.
The wind picked up and carried her scent with it. He was hit head on by it and something in him jumped, even though he had not the slightest clue why.
"Greetings," She said with an unexpected grace. "Shall we begin?" She said while reaching for the hilt of her sword. Sesshoumaru lifted the corner of his left eyebrow, a quizzical look on his normally stoic face.
"You came here to fight me? How foolish." He said as he stretched out his arm to the side of him. His fingernails glowing green. A look akin to suspicion, and doubt.
"You mean, you do not want to kill me?" She said slowly, and cautiously. Sesshoumaru lowered his arm slightly as the female youkai slightly loosened the grip on her sword. Both relaxing slightly, but still ready to fight in a moment's notice.
"No, do you have such numerous enemy's?" The woman, straightened her back and released her grip on her sword.
"You misunderstand. I have no quarrel with anyone. It is them, or rather the inu and neko youkai, that seem to have a quarrel with me." She ran her fingers threw her waist length hair and sighed. She seemed to be relaxing completely.
"Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Kirika. I am half neko youkai, and half inu youkai." Sesshoumaru's composure faltered for a second, and a gasp of shock escaped his lips. Kirika smirked, an action devoid of humor.
"Now you know why I assumed you wished to kill me. You are inu youkai, I can tell by your hair and eyes, and every inu or neko youkai I have encounter in my lifetime has wished to kill me. Simply because of my parents. To them, I should not exist. So, now that you know, do you wish to kill me as well."
Sesshoumaru closed his eyes in thought. He had much to think about. Mainly thoughts about why her scent had affected and was still affecting him so. Then, something his father had once said came back to him. 'You will know your mate by smell.' He smirked then. He never thought he would ever have a mate. He pushed the thought aside. Half not wanting to believe such a ridicules idea, and half because her scent was affecting him again.
'Perhaps it would be wise for her leave.' Just as he was about to voice his decision, Jaken and Rin returned.
"Sesshoumaru-sama!" Jaken yelled. Running to stand before his lord and defend him from the unknown youkai. Sesshoumaru closed his eyes and stepped on him while moving forward.
"Hello, my name is Rin, do you know Sesshoumaru-sama? What is your name? Are you a full demon?" Kirika smiled and began answering all of Rin's questions, at least all the questions she could remember.
"Will you be staying with us?" Rin asked. Kirka smiled.
"I would not mind, but I believe that, Sesshoumaru was it? Will not allow me to." Rin turned pleading eyes toward her lord, while Sesshoumaru remained silent. Finally he spoke, his voice calm and controlled holding no hint of the emotions he was feeling.
"She may do as she pleases. It is no concern of mine." Rin smiled happily, and Kirika widened her eyes in shock.
She had thought that he was going to try and kill her when the toad youkai and child came, and then had thought that he would make some form of an excuse to cause them to leave and then begin to fight with her. His answer surprised her to no end. Just what sort of man was he?
