Well, here's the chapter. I'm done with begging, so just review.

Confusion

"But, Jaken-sama, flowers are very pretty, and they smell nice as well."

Jaken fumed at Rin's perceived lack of respect for his words of wisdom concerning all matters floral. A hot button subject which seemed to always be at the core of their conversations, although debate seemed far more befitting a title.

"Flowers are a waste of time Rin! Only a simpleton would think otherwise." Kirika could not help but smile as the two rambled on. The differences between them now obvious to her. She had been traveling with Sesshoumaru for around seven days now, and had learned much about Jaken and Rin. The one person though that she had yet to understand, was walking in front of her, his mokomoko-sama flying in the wind.

'Him,' Kirika thought, confusion causing her brows to furrow. 'I simply cannot understand.'

The night before she had begun to travel with them, the way he had looked at her. Just recalling the memory made her heart pound. But then, more confusion came as she thought how the next night, she had offered to keep watch with him again, hoping to talk and learn more about him. Her hopes were shattered as he told her that he did not require her assistance this time. That one night, had been the only time she had been able to speak with him, and for some unknown reason, it made her almost unbearably sad that they had not spoken sense.

'Argh, why!' Kirika mentally screamed. 'This all so confusing, why does it make me sad, why!' Kirika sighed, still no closer to the answers she sought.

"Jaken," Sesshoumaru said stopping suddenly.

"Yes Sesshoumaru-sama!" Jaken shouted, running up to stand by the feet of his lord.

"It's getting dark. Go find some firewood, we will camp here tonight."

"Yes Sesshoumaru-sama." Rin ran after Jaken, yelling something about helping him. Kirika smiled at the child's retreating form, marveling at how fast she was to put things behind her. Kirika had spent a lot of time with Rin, and had begun to grow very fond of her. In many ways she reminded her of what it had felt like to be an older sister. Kirika's eyes saddened at the thought of her younger brother.

'Dashi.' Kirika thought, tears rimming her eyes.

Sesshoumaru saw Kirika's tears from the corner of his eye. Almost immediately, he wanted to hold her, sooth her, and take away the thought that was causing her pain. Sesshoumaru shook his head, trying to dispel the strong and new emotions being raised up in him through his youkai blood. A slight noise, no more than the parting of leaves from dirt, made both Kirika's and Sesshoumaru's attention turn towards the forest.

"Youkai," Kirika whispered, hand gripping the hilt of her sword.

Sesshoumaru did not need to be told it was a youkai in the forest that was coming toward them, nor did he need to see the youkai in order to know who it was. What he did need to know was why Naraku had searched him out.

"Naraku, show yourself." Sesshoumaru demanded, his voice betraying none of his curiosity.

'Naraku?' Kirika wondered. 'Who is that?'

Her question was answered when Naraku came forth from his hiding place, a baboon pelt covering his face.

"I see that you've sent a puppet to see me. Are you too afraid of death by my hands Naraku?" The puppet chuckled, a sound made terrifying.

"Not at all Sesshoumaru-sama, not at all. But I am unfortunately detained elsewhere, which is why I sent this youkai puppet."

"Tell me Naraku, why is it that you have sought me out?" The puppet smiled.

"I simply wished to make certain the rummer's I have heard."

"What rummer's?" Sesshoumaru demanded, his eyes narrowing slightly.

"Simply that you have taken on another companion," Naraku motioned towards Kirika.

"It appears that the rummer was indeed correct. A bit of friendly advice Sesshoumaru. You should not trifle with that woman, you will only bring trouble to yourself, and to that young human girl."

Sesshoumaru, having decided that he had heard enough, used his poison whip to lop off the puppets head.

"What was that all about?" Kirika asked, her tone slightly demanding.

"Its no business of yours." Kirika narrowed her eyes at Sesshoumaru.

"If it concerns Rin, then it concerns me." Kirika said, her voice a deadly calm.

Sesshoumaru looked back at her, his eyes as cold as ice.

"Rin is no concern of yours either."

Kirika lunged at Sesshoumaru, catching him off guard for a moment as he did not expect an attack. Holding a handful of his haori, Kirika looked him straight in the eyes.

"Rin is as much my concern as she is yours. Do not forget that Sesshoumaru."

Sesshoumaru did not answer, did not even look at her, as he closed his eyes, trying to will down the effect her scent on him, this close to her.

"Look at me, when I speak to you." Kirika hissed, enraged that he did not take her seriously enough to even look at her. When Sesshoumaru made no move to open his eyes, Kirika reached for his left arm, instead she grasped air. With a gasp she jerked back two steps, inadvertently taking Sesshoumaru with her. Within moments both were in very real danger of falling, all over each other, laterally. Instinctively, Sesshoumaru stepped forward, and caught Kirika's falling back with his right arm. It stopped both of them from falling, but left them in a very awkward position, with Sesshoumaru leaning over Kirika, his leg over hers, and their faces just inches apart.

Their eyes locked and the same strange feeling flooded throughout both of them. Without realizing it, Kirika gulped at his closeness, and found herself lost once again in the swirl of his eyes. Sesshoumaru was fighting and losing a battle for something he had not a name for as his gaze dropped to the nape of Kirika's neck.

"Sesshoumaru-sama!" Like they had been to close to a fire, both of them jumped away from one another.

"We found lots of firewood!"

"That's great Rin. Now, do you remember how to light it?" Kirika asked, trying to get her mind off the feeling that had been cut short. Sesshoumaru merely stood with his back the three of them, pretending to keep watch. The night passed quickly after that, leaving one more confused then ever, and the other, unexplainably mad.
