Hey Guys!

I know it's been awhile since i've updated this fic, Sorry...I hope you guys like this new chapter:)

It was about 4 pm on a Tuesday afternoon. Jack and Kate were upstairs 'talking'. Kate went downstairs because she had to let her mom know she was staying there for diner. As she made her way down the stairs she could hear the voices of Jack's parents, she realized they were talking in the living room, quietly as if to make sure nobody would hear them, as she reached the third step from the bottom she heard what they were talking about.

They were talking about Jack, about him not going to Brown, she couldn't really make out what they were saying exactly,

"Why can't you just let it go, he doesn't want to go to that school Christian" she could hear Margo say

Christian let out a frustrated sigh "I just need to know, he is going to be alright, when" He paused "when I'm not here to make sure he is anymore"

Kate heard Margo's footsteps walk out of the living room and out the door, she stood there still, not sure what to make of what she'd heard when I'm not here to make sure he is anymore what did that mean?

She remembered why she went down there in the first place and made her way down the rest of the stairs, when she walked across the living room, a strong male voice called her name "Kate?"

She looked over at Christian "Hi " she said politely

He shook his head "What did you hear?"

She wondered how he knew she'd heard something but decided not to question it "Enough" she simply replied

He motioned for her to sit down, "So that's why you want him to go to Brown, you're sick?" she asked

He leaned back in his seat "I'm not sick Kate, I'm dying there's a difference"

She sat there stunned "Does Jack know?"

The older man shook his head "and I would like if you didn't tell him"

"Why? He is your son, he'd want to know your sick" she told him

"I want to be the one who tells him, and I will just not yet" He said

Kate felt bad for him, she really did, she'd never seen the great Christian Sheppard so un guarded before, they left it at that, as she was walking out Jack came down the steps

"Hey, I thought you got lost on your way to the phone or something "He laughed

Kate gave him a weak smile "Listen Jack, I think I am just going to go home for diner"

He touched her shoulder "Did something happen with your mom?"

She shook her head no and said "I just..I'll see you tomorrow okay "He nodded and she stood on her tip-toes to give him a small peck on the lips before leaving.

Leaving Jack standing there wondering what happen between his room and those steps to make her run off.

Kate didn't have to wake up the next morning, because she'd been up all night, thinking about Jack and Christian and about her and Jack. He head hurt from thinking about all the things wrong with situation. Also thinking about what she would want for herself if her father was in Christian's shoes.

Getting out of bed she got dressed and headed to Jack's place. Knocking at the door, she found herself faced with Jack, and looking at him she knew this was going to be hard.

"Hi" he said

"Hey, Can we talk?" She said

Stepping outside and shutting the door behind him, they sat together on the front steps. They sat there in a long silence. Before he started to speak "Kate, what's going on?" he asked desperately trying to figure out what was going on inside her head

"I umm , I think you should go to Brown" She said and paused "You need to go to Brown Jack" she said again, and she could already feel the tears forming in her eyes

"Kate, I thought we were past that" He said feeling uneasy about why she was bringing this up again and why it was making her beautiful green eyes fill up with tears

"Jack listen" she said forcefully "Don't stay for me, It's a mistake not to go"

"Kate" he tried to touch her cheek but she backed away "I love you and I won't leave you"

"Jack don't make this hard okay, People fall in and out of love all the time" she said feeling the lump in her throat grow bigger and her eyes fill even more so with tears, ready to spill out

Jack shook his head, and now his eyes were watery too "What are you saying Kate?" he asked even thought he didn't really want to know the answer, he'd give anything not to hear what she said next

She looked at him, then at her feet, she knew in her heart she didn't want to do this, this was the last thing she ever wanted to do, but her head was telling her if she truly loved him she had to do it, so she looked back up at him and told the biggest lie she had ever told "I don't love you anymore"

Her green eyes were over-filling with tears now, she couldn't control it any longer they started to spill out, Jack tried to grab her hand but she pulled back and walked down the front steps quickly turning back before she left everything she loved standing there on that front step,thinking she didn't love them.
